Tested positive yesterday evening when I thought I was literally going to die! Had a headache and cold symptoms I couldn't shift throughout the day. Had an early night but woke up with a 40.1 degree temperature and was shivering head to toe.
Managed to dodge covid.. until now. Hearing a lot of people catching it again.
It's horrible! The worst thing is the headache!
Anyone else currently have it?
How you feeling?

If it gets to day 10 and still feeling very unwell, should I call a doctor? It says to? (Though I appreciate they cant do much)just everyone I know seems to be on the mend by now and I'm still so poorly in bed xxx

StartupRepair · 17/07/2022 06:01

I'm on day 15. Still coughing, still tired, still croaky voice. Resting all weekend and basically just trying to get my work done from home and rest this week.

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 17/07/2022 08:08

Day 11. Still no taste or smell. Still feeling blocked up and lacking in energy.

Its slowly getting better, but slowly.

I am meant to be back at work tomorrow after 2 weeks annual leave. Ha. Some holiday :(

Throwaway5588 · 17/07/2022 08:46

I’m on day 6 since onset of symptoms (5 since positive test) and feeling much brighter than yesterday. Worst symptoms for me have been the dizziness and blocked ears, with the headache close behind.

Weird new symptom the past couple of nights though: when I close my eyes to fall asleep I can see bright images flashing past, like I’ve pressed the high speed fast forward on a tv show. Google tells me this is a form of closed eye hallucinations?? Anyone else experienced this?

ParrotsAteThemAll · 17/07/2022 09:00

Day 5 (but possibly longer) today and woke feeling almost human again. First day I’ve not had a banging headache and runny nose, although I still feel there is snot up there it’s not streaming! Still no taste or smell which is miserable. But I feel I could go out and garden for a few hours which I wouldn’t have considered yesterday!

just hope this isn’t the eye of the storm and I have actually turned a corner.

Hope nobody is struggling with temperatures/fever whilst we have this heatwave!

wishingitwasfriday · 17/07/2022 09:30

Day 8 and I seem to have lost my sense of taste. So weird that it's taken this long and just when I thought I was coming out of it.
Still have achy joints and my chest is very tight today, but I think that could be down to my asthma and the air pressure being so high.
Feels like it's never going to end 😫
Hope you are all coping ok with the heat and that you all begin to feel better soon.

Glad (well not glad, but you know what I mean!) I'm not the only one who has been on holiday the last week whilst suffering with this. Am so annoyed as I never take two weeks of and I had so many plans. We went away the first week and then covid hit the day after we got back. No chance of reclaiming the holiday either. So much for returning to work after two weeks feeling nice and relaxed and ready for a busy summer!

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/07/2022 09:58

Day 6 and feeling almost totally better, but unfortunately still testing positive, which is immensely frustrating. I really thought it would be negative, but it's still a strong positive. It's confusing, as according to the guidelines, I can crack on with normal life. But, obviously I couldn't bear to infect others. How infectious am I likely to be? I think going out outdoors, as long as I socially distance from people, is probably Ok now? But do you think quickly popping to the local shop, at a quiet time, double-masked, would be OK by this evening/tomorrow morning? I live alone, and am literally running out of food etc.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/07/2022 10:00

Edit - I'd obviously use the self-service till too

sunflowerandivy · 17/07/2022 10:07

@WanderingFruitWonderer we are day 6 tomorrow and are planning on dropping off our child at school tomorrow (she was infected first and it will be day 10 for her tomorrow) and it'll be outside and we will be masked. My husband went to our local Tesco late last night as we had run out of milk. He wore an ffp3 mask and used self service till

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/07/2022 10:17

Thank you @sunflowerandivy. That's helpful. Yes, it's such a different landscape from 2020, and it's not clear anymore. A friend dropped supplies off on day two or three. But the offers tend to dry up after that nowadays, if people know you're feeling OK. I want to get supplies in before it gets impossibly hot. I'll maybe go at 7am tomorrow when it opens, and double or even triple mask. I feel guilty, but can't think of an alternative...

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 10:47

Day 6 I think for me. Feel brighter and more ‘alive’ . Woke up to some funny popping sensation in my nose that went on for a minute, anyone else had that? Had a hope it was my smell coming back 😒 but no. Throat hurts a bit again but think I’m a bit dehydrated.

Cigarette smoke smell came back a little this morning then gone again.

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 10:50

@Magic1231 how are you feeling today?

Magic1231 · 17/07/2022 10:59

@AhaLyn I'm still feeling very poorly, not sleeping well either which isnt helping. I just keep breaking down in tears, it's awful. How are you?xxx

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/07/2022 11:04

Oh @Magic1231 I'm so sorry to hear you're still suffering so badly. It's awful 😔

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 11:19

@Magic1231 Oh no, do you have someone with you? It’s a rough old virus, I wonder if we have one of the new variants. I’m getting better thank you, still quite tired but trying to get up a bit more but I think it’s important to rest too. I have an oximeter coming today to keep in as I have an underlying cev issue. But I think I’m over the worst of it now thankfully.

Magic1231 · 17/07/2022 12:11

I'm glad you're improving, must be such a relief.
I live with my mum but shes 75 so obviously that's worrying in itself as I have to keep away from her, I think shes really worried about me tbh xxx

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 13:26

@Magic1231 Hope it starts to improve for you. Flowers What are the main symptoms affecting you?

x

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 13:29

Update: my smell is coming back!! I sat in the garden for hours and all morning I’ve been getting what seems like a ‘note’ of something like nettles and then just now it’s like it’s turning on again! Strange popping sensation in my nose on and off all morning, wonder if that is relevant. I’ve been taking this amla vitamin c wonder if it gave me a boost.

What a surreal experience, the world felt 2d without smell especially loving plants and trees. Sorry I know that seems trivial with all the symptoms but like another poster said it’s like a claustrophobic feeling not having smell or taste.

Kaileighohkaileigh · 17/07/2022 16:33

@AhaLyn that’s great news - how many days after testing positive are you? I’m desperate to get mine back - eating is so rubbish without being able to taste! I’m day 10 after symptoms starting, day 9 after positive test, no sign of it returning although I am starting to feel a bit better.

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 17:31

@Kaileighohkaileigh Oh that’s tough, I shouldn’t be moaning I’m only about 6 days in, lost my smell and taste in about day 4 I think although I was so rough with other symptoms the timeline is a bit of a haze.

From what I’ve read it sounds like the cells that are affected in the nose are targeted because they have a receptor that the virus uses, the immune system sends a response to these cells and they become inflamed and the nerve that sends smell signals to the brain doesn’t quite work for a bit.

It sounds like the maximum it takes those cells to repair if damaged is 30 days. Hopefully it won’t take that long as I know it’s a bit bloody depressing isn’t it.

This isn’t returning straight away it’s more like ‘notes’ of smells returning, then stopping for a bit then on again, it is odd. Sitting in the fresh air seems to help.

TinaWeymouthsBass · 17/07/2022 18:46

Day 7 for me congestion and cough gone, still really lethargic and dizzy. A glimmer of taste and smell returning. My lovely neighbour has made me a super hot Bangladeshi chicken curry to “flush the Covid out” and I’ve demolished it as my appetite has returned ! Hope you’re all turning a corner and beating the virus.
As a side note lots of reports from Canada and the USA saying that this b5 strain is one of the most brutal they’ve seen!

AhaLyn · 17/07/2022 19:14

@TinaWeymouthsBass I can believe it!

Im jealous of the curry! 😁

whenwillthemadnessend · 17/07/2022 19:50

on day 11 and tonight I could
Taste olives cucumber tomatoes and berry flavours so it's coming back quickly for me which is a relief

LifeonMarss · 18/07/2022 08:40

Day 3 for me and managed to sleep all night until next door decided to rev their motor bikes at half 5 but dozed off after that. Woke up with blocked ears and that crackle whenever I swallow and my headache has returned. I feel quite thankful tbh as I just feel like I have a bad hangover.
my taste has gone so strange though, I can taste everything but everything tastes very mild so I’m only getting small hints of things and can’t smell unless it’s strong but I feel like that’s because my nose is blocked
