Tested positive today - anyone else?

Tested positive this morning (Sunday) after negative test last night. I think I had it before a few months ago so am a bit annoyed to have it again.

Symptoms are feeling chesty, bit of a cough, painful mouth ulcers on back of tongue.

Anyone else along for the ride?

The sore throat is now horrendous, got white spots on them and every swallow is eye watering. Anyone got any tips to help please.

The sore throat is awful...:(
Difflam spray
Gargle with soluble aspirin or paracetamol
Ice lollys
Suck ice cubes
I've got sores on the roof of my mouth now so bonjela too!

@Chevyimpala67
I’m a teacher so have to have 2 negatives before going back to school.

Sorry my reply was to @picklemewalnuts

I'm on day 3, also a first-timer, despite DH having it at Christmas. Had cold symptoms for about 36 hours before getting a positive LFT - I only re-tested because I woke up feeling hot/cold and feverish, which was a giveaway.

First day after testing positive was the worst, I had a banging headache and felt like I was in slow-motion. So far now it's just like a regular cold; feel like I'm on the up, but my sense of taste/smell is barely there.

Hope everyone else recovers soon!

Perfectlystill · 24/06/2022 16:27

My sore throat is easing today - day 6.

I'm bloody bored though and v bad back from all this lying about. If this was a normal bug I'd be up and about by now, but I know from last time that if I do that I'll be wiped out for weeks.

Just such a waste of life, this lying about!

Hope your throat starts to improve Chevy. I have gargling with iodine solution.

I binge watched the while of s3 of the umbrella academy on Netflix yesterday!

Currently watching repeats of sewing bee on bbciplayer

I can barely keep my eyes open today

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 24/06/2022 16:46

I’m on Day 5 and can’t seem to get through the day without needing a nap. Then I can’t sleep properly and I just feel like I’ve been drugged

Triple jabbed and have avoided it so far despite DH and DS testing positive at Xmas.

Day 1 - Weds - sore back, bit of a drippy nose. Went outdoor swimming - felt a bit cold afterwards.

Day 2 - Thur - Snotty nose - bit hot/cold - just thought I had a chill from swimming the day before.

Day 3 - Fri - took a test prior to setting off for big family event and guess what positive. Now have a very snotty nose and coughing quite a lot. Rest of family negative.

Gutted. Tried to register positive test on Govt website but it keeps crashing - I wonder if they have taken it down to stop reporting. Downloaded the Zoe app instead.

Hope it continues as just this heavy cold for me! Hope everyone else starts to feel better soon.

I think you can register the test result by ringing the helpline on 119.

Day 6 and I’m also pleased to report that the agonising sore throat has eased a bit, managed half a tub of Ben and Jerrys today lol. If things keep improving I will go back to work on Monday (will test to check I’m negative). I’m a single parent but luckily the DC are old enough to get themselves to school/out and about and buy milk etc. This dose of covid was far worse than the previous one, am gutted to realise that it is something that I’m probably just going to end up getting every few months.

I think I've been shocked by just how ill I am. I'm triple jabbed, wear a mask in crowded places, wash hands yadda yadda...

Omicron BA4/5 is obviously much more transmissible than delta.

It's affected my heart and kidneys and for me it's comparable to when I had Glandular fever at 19...

I'm going to be taking it very easily over the next couple of weeks.

lightisnotwhite · 24/06/2022 20:31

I had mouth ulcers at the beginning of the week and period came early. I haven’t had it before so I guess I have good immunity to it ( work in College with teens and throughout lockdown).
I have a mild sore throat but just very hot and then tired and cold. I wish I knew what day I was on. I had one positive Thursday after waking up feeling tired and sniffly.I took another and one today but both negative. Any ideas how far along I might be?

lightisnotwhite · 24/06/2022 20:33

Also sorry for those with worse symptoms. It feels odd having flu like symptoms in the summer I think.

picklemewalnuts · 24/06/2022 20:59

I've had a turn around at day 5. I feel human this evening.

I'm not going to be rushing back to normal, but my breathing feels easier and I'm not so flat. I actually care about stuff.

It's almost euphoric.

Throat seems better this evening but I feel like I've been hit by a truck tbh

Perfectlystill · 25/06/2022 08:24

Day 7 and I've woken up feeling much better. Stupidly decided to test, and it's still positive, though fainter than the board marker line I had on day 4.

Still, quite a treat to be feeling so much brighter!

It finally got me. Dh has been positive since Monday. I thought I had done a good job of not spending time near him. He must have infected me on Sunday as that was the last contact before isolation. Wednesday night had digestive issues and a headache but thought not much of it as I usually get a bit like that pre period. Felt a bit crap Thursday with scratchy throat and headache. Negative test with old throat style swabs. Friday needed to clear my throat a lot and had awful back and shoulder ache I thought was from sleeping on the sofa. Tested Friday evening finally positive. Not feeling too bad now but the worst is the aches in my wrist and legs at the moment and chest feels heavy. Should I worry about a heavy chest? I can breathe okay. I honestly feel more paranoid now I have it. Also would you do any exercise? Gentle I mean not heavy cardio. Finally, how long should I isolate? Till I get a negative test? Sorry for asking but the rules are changing all the time.

Perfectlystill · 25/06/2022 08:39

Oh bad luck @disappointed101 . I would NOT exercise as your body needs all the time it can get to fight this virus as it is a nasty one.

I would just put your feet up and do nothing for a week at least. That's what I'm trying to do, as I don't want it lingering.

Literally all I've done all week is go to and from bed and the kettle. Emptying the dishwasher is as active as I've got, and I'm someone who loves to run, swim etc.

I'd settle down in front of the telly with a bottle of water and some vitamin c and just try to do nothing.

OP posts:
historyofthefuture · 25/06/2022 09:00

@disappointed101 oh no! look after yourself and please, no exercise, even gentle, until you're sure you're through this - there's a close correlation between people exerting themselves too much when they haven't fully recovered, and getting long covid. Be like a potato!

On isolating: I think current rules are to isolate for 5 days after you get a +ve test. If you get a -ve test on day 6, you can leave isolation; if not, continue to isolate until you do get a -ve test.

elephantmarchingin · 25/06/2022 09:03

@historyofthefuture I don't think you have to wait for a negative test as some people can continue to show positive for weeks

disappointed101 · 25/06/2022 09:05

Thank you both, I will rest up. :)
Hope everyone gets over this bastard virus soon.

picklemewalnuts · 25/06/2022 09:05

Bad luck, disappointed.

There are no rules now, just guidance. I asked my bosses what they wanted me to do.

DS 1 can go in if he has a negative test, as can I.

I'm going by a version of the five day rule myself. So when I feel better or five days, whichever is later. If I was going to spend time with someone vulnerable, I'd want a few days grace and a couple of negative tests!

Perfectlystill · 25/06/2022 09:17

This is the guidance for England:

Tested positive today - anyone else?
