Scottish MNers - will you be ditching the mask today?

I haven’t been out and about today (wfh) but my husband was in town with the kids earlier and said he saw a pretty drastic reduction in mask wearing. There are debates on Twitter and it seems to be a fairly even split from that.

I’ll be ditching mine, to be honest. Given the rates we have had since England dropped the mask mandate, I don’t see any evidence that they are actually doing anything.

I do however suspect that a lot of places will want to keep them in place anyway - has this been the case in England?

No I won’t stop.

Finfintytint · 18/04/2022 16:31

I will still have to wear them at work but I won’t be wearing them anywhere else.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 18/04/2022 16:32

I will still be wearing one when I'm near other people inside. I'm at a kids gym class without one, but the adults are all well over 2m apart

Pumperthepumper · 18/04/2022 16:34

It depends, I didn’t wear one today because I didn’t have a clean one in the car and knew I didn’t have to bother going home for one. But if I was somewhere crowded, I might.

TwinklyBranch · 18/04/2022 16:35

I'll still be wearing mine but judging from the shops I've been in today a lot of folk aren't bothering any more.

I noticed hardly anyone wearing masks today, and no distancing happening at all anymore. I hadn't realised rules changed today. I've been wearing mine in shops today, I will continue indoors and places where I'm near people.

Same!
CheeseCheeseCheeseCheese · 18/04/2022 16:40

I thought most people abandoned them months ago.

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 16:40

Yes! Manky things.

I was in England two weeks ago and only very few masks that be seen. Including on crowded tube and full theatre. 99% mask free. I hope it will be the same here.

ssd · 18/04/2022 16:42

Im working in City centre retail today.
I haven't noticed any difference but i really dont care either way.

User48751490 · 18/04/2022 16:43

I will have one on standby for the school run tomorrow morning, but doubtful that I will use it.

SunshineAddict · 18/04/2022 16:45

Yes in cafés. It was crazy wearing one on entry and at departure.
In the supermarket I was wearing one today because I'd forgotten the change. I had a coughing fit at the exit for no proper reason so it was handy at that point.
At least today there seemed a majority with.

bettertocryinamercedes · 18/04/2022 16:47

Definitely ditching the masks!!!

Norgernert · 18/04/2022 16:49

I’ll keep wearing mine. I am not bothered for myself, but a CEV friend explained that she felt scared to go out if people stop wearing them, so I will wear mine for the benefit of people like her.

However, if it goes the same way as England NOBODY wears them, so there would be very little point doing it as just one person.

salemcat · 18/04/2022 16:59

Being in the NHS I will still wear one

Againstmachine · 18/04/2022 17:04

Well Nicola sturgeon who makes the rules ditched hers a day early and it's not first time she's been caught out.

dementedpixie · 18/04/2022 17:07

I didn't wear one in a supermarket today and it felt weird not to have it on. There were still quite a few people with them on

HollyDayDream · 18/04/2022 17:11

Is it just me or does there seem to more of a push for people to continue wearing them from businesses etc compared with when england rules changed? Saw something on Facebook from an NHS Scotland region saying along the lines of “don’t be embarrassed to keep wearing a face mask - it shows you care.” Wow! Guilt tripping. Also lots of local businesses near me on social media saying that they will insist on people wearing a mask so don’t try to come in without one. I’ve been out and about today and have worn one purely because I don’t want to make a “mistake” and go in a shop where they still want one worn.

Hopefully the guilt/pressure dies down in a few weeks and people can make their own choice without such social pressure.

oyatra · 18/04/2022 17:13

Yes. Went to my local shopping centre maskless today for the first time in 2 years. Plenty people still wearing them but definitely the minority I would say. It felt good. Still have to wear them at work though.

WeOnlyTalkAboutBruno · 18/04/2022 17:15

I think they’ll be worn as a political statement. Pro-Indy = pro-mask Grin

Not just you. The shopping centre I was in was playing a please wear your mask message on a loop throughout the whole centre Hmm.

ssd · 18/04/2022 17:17

Every shop, including mine, have signs at the door saying to wear mask. No one notices. Its totally up to yourself now. A lot of posters on scotsnet think not wearing a mask is a big brave 2 fingers up to nicola sturgeon but in reality most folk are just going about their business and doing what feels right to them.

2manycats · 18/04/2022 17:18

I think most people have. I was able to see the parents of the kids in my class at home time today for the first time all year.

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 17:18

I just feel inspired by Ms Sturgeon and won’t wear one 😃
