Scottish MNers - will you be ditching the mask today?

I haven’t been out and about today (wfh) but my husband was in town with the kids earlier and said he saw a pretty drastic reduction in mask wearing. There are debates on Twitter and it seems to be a fairly even split from that.

I’ll be ditching mine, to be honest. Given the rates we have had since England dropped the mask mandate, I don’t see any evidence that they are actually doing anything.

I do however suspect that a lot of places will want to keep them in place anyway - has this been the case in England?

I still have to wear one at work and will probably still wear one and distance in busy areas where possible. It’s not gone away, so I will do what I feel is safest.

Againstmachine · 18/04/2022 17:34

Is it just me or does there seem to more of a push for people to continue wearing them from businesses etc compared with when england rules changed?

Some businesses in England tried that it does off pretty quickly.

ApolloandDaphne · 18/04/2022 17:37

I absolutely am not wearing a mask if I don't need to. Being in shops without a mask is bliss.

coodawoodashooda · 18/04/2022 17:38

Yes!

weebarra · 18/04/2022 17:38

Mostly I will, will need to at work. But things like in the playground, I'll be very glad to not have to!

WeOnlyTalkAboutBruno · 18/04/2022 17:46

I’d imagine that businesses taking that position will ultimately find that some people will vote with their feet. I would. Not because I think wearing a mask is a big deal but I really object to the sanctimonious, guilt tripping, virtue signalling nature of that stance.

Will need to wear a mask at work but won't be wearing one anywhere else. It did feel a bit weird not wearing one in the local shop earlier today though.

HollyDayDream · 18/04/2022 17:55

Here is the one I found on Facebook from an nhs Scotland account. Seems awfy guilt tripping to me.

My teenager’s school bus has also just put a post on saying all passengers still need to wear a mask if the driver asks them to. I’m not exactly sure where it’s still mandatory. Need to check. I’m sure it said no longer legally required in most but not all indoor environments.

And equally they might find that those of us who prefer to carry on wearing them will go there instead and they’ll do very nicely - who knows. It’s FA to do with sanctimony or virtue signalling though.

Of course, in reality, because it’s not enforceable people will either wear one or they won’t.

Yes I will be ditching mine and any shop who insists I wear one will e losing my business. Worn one religiously as it was a legal requirement but no longer will.

SirChenjins · 18/04/2022 18:01

Which site was that from @HollyDayDream please?

A friend reposted it on Facebook. NHS borders or Galloway I’m sure.
TwoWayMirror · 18/04/2022 18:05

I’ve stopped wearing mine, just back from a holiday in England didn’t see a single person in a mask so I’m pleased the rule here has scrapped just as I came back.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 18/04/2022 18:06

Yes - joyfully!

LouScot · 18/04/2022 18:06

I'll still be wearing mine inside public places, yes.

HollyDayDream · 18/04/2022 18:07

Yes it was Dumfries and Galloway. Just found the original with their logo on their Facebook page

Idontevenknow · 18/04/2022 18:12

No, I ditched mine today, I wear glasses and I've found them difficult to wear the past 2 years.

If any business tells me to wear them then that's fine, I'll leave and go elsewhere. It's not a legal requirement anymore. However I certainly won't judge anyone who continues to wear it.

Banoffe · 18/04/2022 18:13

Dumping mine. Don’t see any evidence they work and many people just rewear the same manky one anyway which can’t be good for them!

Nelliephant1 · 18/04/2022 18:16

Absolutely not, the mask stays. From what I've seen from being out and about 95% of people in my town are still wasting them thankfully.

SunshineAddict · 18/04/2022 18:18

I'm still waiting for some science on this question. It's incredible that there's nothing solid even now years into this.

containsnuts · 18/04/2022 18:18

@WouldBeGood

I just feel inspired by Ms Sturgeon and won’t wear one 😃
Inspired me to upgrade to an FFP2! I don't trust this government with my health.
Lyricallie · 18/04/2022 18:20

I'm not sure. I was in some shops today and the staff and about 60% of shoppers were still wearing their masks so I popped mine on. Realistically I think by next week a lot less people will. But I'll play it by ear. I work from home and the only place I really go where I need a mask is the supermarket.

SirChenjins · 18/04/2022 18:22

Thanks @HollyDayDream It’s not guilt tripping (or any of the terms used) imo, but I appreciate that others might see it that way.

Sebastianthecoo · 18/04/2022 18:23

I won’t be wearing one except to work, which I imagine will always be the case now in hospitals and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

However I was so surprised when my 14 year old came out of school. He was really happy and content as all the school restrictions have been lifted; one way system/not allowed indoors before school or break/clubs restarting. I didn’t realise how much he had been affected by them, I don’t imagine he did either but he just seemed so full of joy and I’m so happy that he is getting some life back.
