Why am I so ill despite being fully vaccinated

Wherecanitbe · 31/03/2022 06:26

I have tested positive for Covid and I have never felt so ill. I do not have any underlying health conditions, so why do I feel so unwell if I have had all my vaccines?

Dog walking lady, unvaccinated,no symptoms except a slight temperature.
Myself, vaccinated sick as anything for 13 days.
Nobody can be sure they won’t get really sick,so unpredictable.

YukoandHiro · 02/04/2022 16:59

Same. I'm on day 8 and only just starting to pull out of it now. I'm asthmatic, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. My whole family have struggled including my children.

I don't want "living with covid" to mean I have to fight this off once twice or three times a year

YukoandHiro · 02/04/2022 17:02

@nldnmum02 if you're in category six you got your booster in November (I did and so did DH). My parents got theirs at the end of October. Only the healthy younger population got them just before Xmas/over Xmas

CatAlice · 02/04/2022 17:03

There are a few posters on here who seem to be suggesting that vaccination makes covid worse.
That's the very worst of anti vax mentality.

Those currently in hospital and dying of covid are either unvaccinated or immunocompromised.
I fall into the latter group (immunocompromised)and was hospitalised with covid, though not on ICU. Every other patient on my ward was unvaccinated.

Ah ok sorry, I just remember seeing all the info on the news around Xmas and my friends and family all got theirs after Xmas.

Kittykat93 · 02/04/2022 18:57

You're not 'so ill', you don't feel well but you don't need medical intervention so it's still a mild illness. No one claimed you wouldn't feel rough if youve been vaccinated and get covid.

NelsonScrandela · 02/04/2022 19:55

It is a lottery. Perhaps your vaccination protection is wearing thin, perhaps you got a large viral load and it did help. We will never know. I think this is a particularly dastardly strain at the minute. Possibly less dangerous as in hospital admissions but does leave you feeling rotten. I hope you're better soon.

NelsonScrandela · 02/04/2022 19:57

Obviously less dastardly than the original but unpleasant nonetheless...

sleepwouldbenice · 02/04/2022 23:42

@CloseYourEyesAndSee

This is such rubbish. I know several people unvaccinated who virtually had no symptoms, yet the ones vaccinated have been really sick. It's a lottery.

It's literally not

Exactly it’s really not…! But it us about averages not “ this happened to my mate so must be true for everyone….”

Some people will never ever get this…

Presumably very fit dog walking lady? Just a thought.

Anecdotally the fitter healthier of us have been more unwell! There’s no rhyme or reason to it.

See the many replies to your posts @MsTSwift, averages! Grin

Population level statistics don't always correlate to the individual, but it's certainly not the case that healthier people are getting more ill with COVID

TimandGinger · 03/04/2022 12:41

I’ve had no vaccines, no covid. Meanwhile all my team at work have it after three jabs. I’m laughing my head off as my work (healthcare) was desperate to sack me for not getting it.

Good luck all. :-)

How’s that helpful to the OP?

@MsTSwift

No fitter people haven’t been more unwell on average. The statistics are very clear. Yes there is a rhyme and reason to it, we know what underlying health conditions make people more vulnerable.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 03/04/2022 13:01

Not sure, I work for the NHS surrounded by covid every single day and have never caught it despite being a prime candidate, 60, chubby.
But I've got something else right now and just want to lie down and die. Its definitely not covid.

MsTSwift · 03/04/2022 19:19

Well say what you like but me and my two fit healthy weight friends and a very fit client of mine were knocked for six in bed for two weeks and in one case hospitalised and several beer drinking rather overweight less active friends threw it off in a day or so!

RonaLisa · 03/04/2022 19:21

I am triple vaccinated as a member of my family has cancer. I have got Covid and it has been horrendous. I am quite sure I'd have had a less bad dose, had I not had the blasted vaccinations.

ancientgran · 03/04/2022 19:23

I got it 5 weeks ago. I've had 3 jabs and I've had covid before and I have been really unwell, doctor was considering admitting me to hospital last week but let me go home but said I definitely need to go in if I get any worse.

I've got a terrible pain in one side of my chest, I think I might have cracked a rib coughing, I've done it before so I know what it feels like.

There is no plausible mechanism for a vaccine causing worse symptoms of a disease @RonaLisa
Estebelle · 03/04/2022 19:25

Reading this thread and then we have another thread running with some posters condoning blackmailing teenagers into being vaccinated. The world has gone batshit.

Hmm, our family aren't vax'd and we weren't ill at all. Just sore throat / headache. Had delta and omicron.

People we know who had all 3 shots have been really poorly.

So lottery it could well be! I know 19 out of 21 local girls caught it on a hen night despite all being vaxd. Half were poorly and half weren't. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Attictroll · 03/04/2022 20:27

Isn’t some of it down to viral load. For example were the unvaccinated wearing masks more perhaps. Triple jabbed and feeling awful here. Actually thought site of vaccine hurt the other day and 3 Rd was in December 😞

I don't really believe the whole viral load thing. I'm sure both children picked up covid in their own classes (wide outbreaks in both), DH and I both spent a lot of time with them as they're still quite young. My DD had a cough for one night and I had to go in and give her some calpol while she coughed all over me. So we lived in a viral load factory and had it so mild I never would I have known if we didn't test for it

Have a search on 'covid-19 vaccine surveilance report' the latest is March 31. Look at the actual numbers of cases, hospitalisations and death separated by vaccine status, in tables 11 to 14. I think you might be in for a shock, a big shock.
