Second time for me. First time was July of 2020 (asymptomatic then)

How are you doing? What symptoms do you have? How long ago did it start for you?

I tested positive this morning after I had an inkling that my 'cold' could possibly be covid.

I have a mild cough, bit pleghmy and my body aches. I was hot and cold throughout the night so didn't sleep well at all. Very scary dreams too Confused

I have 3 young children, two of which started feeling unwell on Monday but are alot better now bar some snot. I'm a little worried about my baby though, he's 4 months. He seems fine during the day but during the night he sounds quite croaky and congested.

If anybody wants to keep us company whilst we recover that would be lovely as I'm a tiny bit nervous.

I’m guessing the dizziness is possibly from involvement of/inflammation of the labyrinth/inner ear?

My brain seems to be interpreting it as low blood sugar and demanding I eat to counter it. Thankfully I still have to work so can only eat here and there during the day or I’d be the size of a house already

123Shush · 15/03/2022 21:00

Day 3 for me, positive PCR confirmed today.

56, triple jabbed and feel awful. I think it started last week with sniffles and fatigue, but lft's kept coming up clear. Did LFT on Saturday before meeting friends as I still felt ropey - still clear. Sunday I had to stay in bed, another LFT was clear so ordered a PCR test.

I have headache, sore throat, loss of appetite, runny nose, cough, dizziness, exhaustion. Today the metallic taste in my mouth started and nothing tastes right. Also peeing a lot. Bonus could be losing a few pounds though.

I agree, if this is mild then I wouldn’t have liked to get the full on version of whatever variant it is.

I’m also one of the minority still wearing a mask on public transport and in shops, but those are the only places I think I could have caught it as I wfh.

My tinnitus has also gone into overdrive, but my dreams haven’t been any weirder than usual.

I had the original variant in July of 2020 before vaccines, I had slightly swollen glands and a runny nose thats it. At no point did I need to take to my bed and at no point was I worried about how bad I felt.

The most recent variants now are supposedly so much milder, that hasn't been my experience at all. Even after 3 vaccines. I would take original variant on my unvaccinated self over this bullshit ten times over.

Horrible horrible virus this one is.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/03/2022 21:39

Fuck's sake. Positive last night, fitbit recorded 91% overnight and a pulse oximeter is currently bleeping between 94 and 91.

I feel thousands of times better than I did this time 2 years ago. But because I told this to the NHS 111 lady when I called about possibly being eligible for antivirals due to being on biologics and I'm a bit clammy, I'm now 98 minutes into waiting for an ambulance that was definitely going to arrive with 20 mins, apparently.

EventuallyDelighted · 15/03/2022 21:41

May I join you? Day 2 for me (50s, triple jabbed, never had it before). DD (teen, double jabbed) picked it up at school at the end of last week. Sore throat and very, very tired. Took her for a pcr on Sat and did one myself as it was quiet and they said I might as well. Mine was negative. Started symptoms late yesterday afternoon so went for another PCR on the way home from work, came back + this morning. Symptoms so far are like a cold - headache, slightly shivery hot and cold and occasional coughing. I have had a quiet day but have done light housework.

Blizy · 15/03/2022 22:51

I've just tested positive after testing neg this morning. I have a cough and cold symptoms at the minute im day 1. My 1 yo ds is on day 3 and has a high temp, cough and snotty nose.

jamted · 15/03/2022 23:04

Ugh I'm here too. Woke up yesterday with bad lower back pain but just thought I'd pulled a muscle or something. Did an lft before work and it was negative. In the evening I had a very slight sore throat and cough so did another lft just to be on the safe side and it came up strongly positive immediately.

Have felt awful today, like flu. Achy muscles, cough, runny nose, streaming eyes, high temp and alternating between feeling too hot and too cold. It very much doesn't feel mild. I've been quite surprised by how bad I feel. Hopefully it will pass soon!

123Shush · 16/03/2022 06:20

@Walkaround, last night and the night before I’ve had slight ocular migraines too.

TypicaIMe · 16/03/2022 07:26

Morning all. How are we?

I thought yesterday was my worst morning so far but nope, today beats yesterday into a cocked hat. The full on snot/chestiness arrived overnight and I've sneezed/blown my nose so much my inner tubes feel like they're on fire. Temperature has gone bananas too. At least I can still smell and taste things, unlike poor DH.

You know I've not been one to speculate all through this, but I'm going to now - I don't think what most of us have is the Omicron people had at Christmas/in January. Almost everyone I've spoken to who currently has it has said that they were unwell for about a week or more before they finally tested positive and when they did so, it went from completely negative to a thick black stripe in a matter of hours. The symptoms seem (while technically mild) more severe than Omicron, too. It feels like the original version I had in February 2020. I was completely asymptomatic last summer with what I assume was Delta, and mildly achy/snotty for about three days in January with what I assume was Omicron. What we all seem to have now is pretty brutal in comparison and also seems to be stretching on for ages. DD has now been ill for almost three weeks yet she only tested positive a week ago.

Thing is now we're not having to PCR I doubt we'll know exactly how widespread new variants are, not that it matters I suppose as long as people aren't getting desperately unwell.

Avidgardner · 16/03/2022 07:30

Tested positive yesterday - first time getting it. 41 and fully vaxed. Caught it off younger DD who started a day before me. So far sore throat and feeling achy and chills. Fingers crossed

EventuallyDelighted · 16/03/2022 07:45

I did get a PCR as I was negative on LFT on the day my symptoms started and there is a test centre very close by. I guess the ONS study will be how we track variants from now on. I haven't done any more LFTs as no point till Day 5 but DD who is on day 7 and DH who is still negative are doing them. DD is much better now and really hoping for a negative soon so she can get back to school (GCSE year).

BigButtons · 16/03/2022 07:47

@TypicaIMe interesting you should say that about the variant. My adult son said something similar to me yesterday- he said it doesn’t sound like the omicron variant.

Sorry you too are having such a rough time.

I have only just woken up so am not quite sure how I feel yet!
I think I can feel my legs a bit better today, they don’t tingle as much.
I have a drier cough now. The snot is mostly gone and sore throat is gone. But my sense of smell and taste are a bit dull this morning I tested positive on Saturday so day 5 for me.
I hate being so cut off from everybody.
I answered the door to someone delivering a parcel yesterday . A very nice chap. I stood as far from him as possible and told him I had covid and he needed to stay away from me.☹️
I would kill to be hugged by someone.

BigButtons · 16/03/2022 07:52

@TypicaIMe also a big YES to feeling I’ll/ having symptoms way before the lft finally showed a positive. I would normally not have bothered to keep retesting.
I’ve had various ‘bugs’ where I have tested once or twice and they have been negative so didn’t bother retesting. This time I kept re tearing since that seemed to be the way to go to know for certain- people I know who have eventually been positive have done it this way-
If I had stuck to my old way of doing it I would have had the three negative tests and stopped. It was the 4th one that showed the positive. I had felt really crappy with a ‘cold’ a good week before I tested positive and was becoming increasingly exhausted.

Saucery · 16/03/2022 07:58

Still feeling totally wiped out, but LFT lines very faint now, so that means I’m less infectious? Interesting to track the development from Clear and Red, to Almost Black, then fading again, over 48 hours. Wouldn’t be allowed back at work this week anyway, even if I felt well enough.

Omicron has had time to change slightly, so makes sense it might be acting a bit differently with tests/ symptoms etc. As long as it’s not leading to overwhelm of the health system any more I suppose there is no interest in tracking its development further, like there was at the beginning of the pandemic. Apart from ONS studies and the like, that is.

I was mildly humphy about the sudden interest the NHS took in me when offering me part of an antivirals trial. I’d get a telephone consultation with my GP that day, regular checks and they were interested in a daily diary of how I was feeling, whether in the group given the drugs or not. Oh, so now you have time for a middle aged woman and how she feels, without just reaching for the antidepressant prescription? How……novel! Angry Grin

BigButtons · 16/03/2022 08:04

@Saucery I always preface any discussion with the GP by saying I do not want anti depressants - even before I discuss options with them! It works. But you are right they take little to no interest in us.

Saucery · 16/03/2022 08:07

Agree! I know colds are still a Thing and back in Nov I had 2 back to back but accepted they weren’t Covid.
This time, the school I work in has a major outbreak of children and staff testing positive. With the lag in LFTs coming up positive Covid has ample opportunity to get round more people before those people isolate themselves. I don’t know the mechanism by which it’s doing this, but there must be some alteration in the antigen markers or something like that, causing the delay.
I knew I was walking into Covid Soup every day, mask in communal areas, windows open aside. So when I got the Omicron symptoms I wasn’t going to give up on testing after the first couple of negatives.

EventuallyDelighted · 16/03/2022 08:07

I've been offered that trial too but its oversubscribed at the moment. Day 5 for me is Friday, I am hoping to be able to get back to work next week. We are sticking to the two negative LFTs rule while they are still available.

BigButtons · 16/03/2022 08:22

@Saucery this is what is happening in my school. Loads of staff and children currently off. I feel bad being in the classroom all week sneezing and coughing ( into tissues of course), feeling really shite but testing negative all week. Looking back I clearly had covid. The class teacher is now off with it as are lots of the children.
It does seem to be very likely that this variant is not being picked up on tests until it has had a chance to be spread round good and proper. My town seems really rife with covid now in a way it hasn’t been all through the pandemic.

Didiplanthis · 16/03/2022 08:32

Day 6 from symptoms, day 4 from lft here... sats around 93% and breathless on any exertion. Absolute exhausted. Also keep dropping things tripping over things. This is my second time round. Totally different to first time which was high fever and blinding headache. Triple vaxxed too. Both times caught from secondary age DD despite me working in high risk Healthcare and never catching from work even when no vaccines available !!

Saucery · 16/03/2022 08:33

I suspect it has a lot to do with viral load. Contact with one or two people with Covid symptoms not yet testing positive gives a much lower viral load than a classroom where a 3rd of the children are incubating it. So a nonCEV person triple vaccinated would be relatively safe with reasonable precautions like not sitting too close, well ventilated etc. We’d gone back to whole school assemblies in a hall with tiny windows, an ICT suite where the aircon was rarely put on, hardly anyone bothering to clean high contact points any more……ideal opportunity for a coronavirus to up its game. The version that looks like the common cold and evades antigen testing was always going to spread in those circs. We’re lucky it is ‘mild’ alongside those adaptations.
I’m not a fan of the Science sitting back, seeing where Covid goes next and reacting after the fact, but we can’t have permanent lockdown. Longer mass testing would be good, but the govt seems determined to say the pandemic is over so 🤷‍♀️

EventuallyDelighted · 16/03/2022 09:05

I'm concerned about the removal of free testing, honestly I'd be at work with these symptoms in normal times, I'm really not that unwell with it and without any testing that's going to be a really difficult call. We've been fortunate to have a "permanent" walk-in pcr centre so close by and have used it many times but they are closing at the end of the month.

ancientgran · 16/03/2022 09:45

I'm on the trial but I'm in the group that don't get the antivirals so I just fill in a diary online every day. I'd like to have had the antivirals but I know they need the control group so I feel like I am doing something positive.

I also signed up for the antibody test, felt a bit daunted when the kit arrived for me to do the blood test but it is straightforward and it was interesting to discover I have antibodies from the vaccine as well as a previous infection I didn't know about.

I'm still feeling pretty bad, on day 17 still coughing and sneezing and feeling achey. Last night I had a long soak in a hot steamy bath, took some cough mixture, covered myself in Vicks and managed to sleep for 5 hours which was amazing and I feel a bit more positive this morning. Sleep deprivation is just horrible on top of everything else.

My eyes look terrible, I've burst blood vessels and look like a vampire who has just topped up. GS says I'm scary which is nice.

Saucery · 16/03/2022 10:03

Sorry it’s hanging on so long for you, ancientgran that sounds rotten.
I wouldn’t have minded the non-drug diary group but didn’t want to chance being given the drugs that could give me the shits on top of everything else going on Grin.

PurpleOranges · 16/03/2022 10:12

Day 4 here and still no improvement. Overwhelming fatigue, muscle aches, sore eyes, foggy head and today both my knees are swollen! I'm feeling really down today.

Verity226 · 16/03/2022 10:21

Hope everybody is coping OK today, its the gift that just keeps on giving isn't it?

Day 5/6 for me since the positive result, day 7/8 since symptoms started.

My nose is totally blocked up and coughing more but the cough is a bit more productive. The spaced out feeling and dizziness persists but I'm up and out my bed for now, feeling hungry for the first time in about a week too.

Tested again last night and the test line is still basically black -_-

I've just seen that you managed to be seen in person ancientgran, that's great. I was thinking about you yesterday. Hopefully your eyes clear up soon 🤞
