Second time for me. First time was July of 2020 (asymptomatic then)

How are you doing? What symptoms do you have? How long ago did it start for you?

I tested positive this morning after I had an inkling that my 'cold' could possibly be covid.

I have a mild cough, bit pleghmy and my body aches. I was hot and cold throughout the night so didn't sleep well at all. Very scary dreams too Confused

I have 3 young children, two of which started feeling unwell on Monday but are alot better now bar some snot. I'm a little worried about my baby though, he's 4 months. He seems fine during the day but during the night he sounds quite croaky and congested.

If anybody wants to keep us company whilst we recover that would be lovely as I'm a tiny bit nervous.

I haven't tested positive but DH has it. It's like a really bad cold.

I have lots of the unusual symptoms that people are posting about - backache, neck ache, nausea, dizziness. And mild fever and a thumping headache for days (not a headachy person at all).

Interesting to read about delays in getting positive tests. I don't think I'm safe yet! Not even testing every day as I'm not going anywhere and my symptoms haven't changed or got worse.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 16/03/2022 17:00

Day 3 here I think. Definately symptomatic on day one, but just got back from ski trip so blamed aches and fatigue on that. Was coughing yesterday so did a test v.v. dark instantly. Shocking sore throat last night and this am. But did sleep with some paracetamol. Worked from home yesterday and this morning, but took this pm off. Luckily DCs are teens and DH has asked me to isolate, so doing ok lying on the sofa. I keep thinking taste is going but smell seems ok so far. Had some tingling and aching hands this am, was feeling pretty spacey at lunch time. 46 BMI 21, triple vaxxed (most recent in Oct)

AuntieMarys · 16/03/2022 17:35

Dh just tested positive on LFT...I'm still negative but sent PCR off.

BigButtons · 16/03/2022 18:14

@TypicaIMe oh no! I feel huge pressure in both my ears atm and keep swallowing to clear them. It must be inflammation for us I guess? Are you in pain? X

MyBottomDecides · 16/03/2022 18:19

Day 4 of symptoms here, although only tested yesterday. I'm definitely in the mild cold group. Slightly tender throat the first 2 days, slightly damp nose and occasional light cough in the last 2. More of a tendancy to fall asleep on the sofa in the evenings and a generally muzzy-headed vibe. Lemsip is sorting it and in pre-pandemic times I'd have gone to work without a second thought. Following the thread to have an idea of whether things are likely to go downhill - thank you all for sharing, it's looking looking positive that my body is just dealing with it ok. Early 50s, average weight and fitness, triple jabbed, second time around- previous time was much worse.

I caught it from DS who was grotty for about 36 hours at the WE and been happily yelling at computer games ever since - and has another week ahead as his school year has just closed because of rising cases. I know we're supposed to be out of this but it doesn't feel like we are...

eggandonion · 16/03/2022 18:45

Do you think testing and isolating is going to keep on going? Various members of my family have always gone into work with horrible coughs and colds, they are indispensable apparently.
Or will people finally learn to stay at home when ill...or do we need proof?
After two years, it still seems bewildering.

EventuallyDelighted · 16/03/2022 19:29

Unfortunately the feeling that you are taking the piss if you stay off work with a cold is still very pervasive. I'd have taken a lemsip and gone in with the symptoms I've got now in normal times. Also no one does my work if I'm not there, it all just piles up waiting for me to get back, everyone is busy with their own then it takes ages to catch up. We had three off in the same week with covid a few months ago and it was a massive PITA.

PiesNotGuys · 16/03/2022 23:11

Thank you I will look at a stronger painkiller. Not being able to go to a pharmacy is a bit of a bugger.

I can’t stop working, sadly I am actually indispensable. No policy on sickness, no one to report a test to, positive or negative.

TypicaIMe · 17/03/2022 06:04

Good morning fellow lurgy people, how are we all today?

I've been up for an hour already. My throat is so sore it's hard to breathe/swallow and I've lost my voice. I had a bit of a sore throat yesterday but it's gone bananas overnight. I woke up in a panic unable to breathe and I've been panicky ever since. I've taken some effervescent Solpadeine Max in the hope that swallowing liquid pain relief may soothe my throat as it goes down, if nothing else the codeine may make me relax a bit!

My throat/chest feels sort of hollow too (it's hard to describe) and my tongue is all white. Covid is like the shittest advent calendar ever - you never know what you're going to get when you wake up. I'm also completely knackered but can't see sleep happening again now.

Thoroughly pissed off a this point. I've been ill for almost two weeks and thought I'd surely be getting better by now but every day I feel worse. DD is now testing negative and is fine, DH is feeling better too. Dickheads Grin

EventuallyDelighted · 17/03/2022 06:12

I've been awake since 4.30, I am now sitting up in bed with a lemsip (sneaked downstairs while DH is still asleep in the living room as he's negative). I have found gargling with soluble aspirin helpful for sore throats, or there's a spray called Chloraseptic that numbs it a bit. Still just cold symptoms for me but they have ramped up a bit, more coughing in the night, sinuses are starting to ache a bit.

Echo40 · 17/03/2022 07:01

Tested postive Monday evening.
Felt progressively worse each day.
Yesterday bad headache runny nose cough.
This morning woken up with such a sore throat it hurts to swallow.
Also weird my left eye feels sore and swollen like stye maybe forming.
Feeling tired but dident get much sleep.
My 3 year old woke me up at5.45 am wanting go down and watch TV.
Hubby's trying to avoid me and sleeping on the sofa with the dog.
Teenager has covid she hibernating on room and feels fine.
Husband dropping son off at breakfast club and my other daughter at the bus stop get bus to school.
Exhausted me just making his packed lunch.
The 3 year old has a cough and runny noise not tested her for a few days.
Son has it last week he was fine and overjoyed have week off school.
My year 7 still needs 2nd jab by 16 year olds bad 2 but needs booster but I guess she has to wait 12 weeks now.
Why do they make them wait so long.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 17/03/2022 07:09

Day 4 here, similar to yesterday really v. sore throat overnight, but did manage to sleep. Tiny cough not much appetite, thankfully no headache and the muscle pains of day one/two have passed.

BigButtons · 17/03/2022 07:25

When you are normally ill people can look after you. When you have covid you are left all alone to suffer. I have found that the most horrible part.

BigButtons · 17/03/2022 07:29

@TypicaIMe you really are having a rough time with this. Since no one else will come anywhere near us- here’s a hug from one leper to another x

buckleten · 17/03/2022 07:56

I tested positive last night with quite a faint line, after a day of sore throat and feeling a bit sick. I slept ok and have woken with a scratchy throat but not feeling sick, still positive but faint line again..

PurpleOranges · 17/03/2022 07:57

Day 5 here and I've got really bad pain in the kidney area. Has anyone else had this? Should I be worried? I think I'll ring 111 for advice.

BigButtons · 17/03/2022 08:15

@PurpleOranges I would check that you aren’t dehydrated. My kidney area can feel achey if I haven’t been getting enough fluids and it has with this virus.

Ledkr · 17/03/2022 08:19

I'm.on day 12 testing neg since day 9.
Still stuffy nose, but the tiredness isn't something else.
Everything feels such an effort.
I'm wioed out by 8 and can't stand the family noise and bustle. I just need to be in calm silence. It literally feels to me like nails on a blackboard.
I'm.extremely irritable and feel.guilty about this.

PurpleOranges · 17/03/2022 08:19

@BigButtons you're probably right, I'll drink loads today and see what happens.

123Shush · 17/03/2022 08:24

Day 6 for me and I feel like I’ve turned the corner, thankfully. I still feel tired, have a cough, slight sore throat and am very snotty, but I feel ‘proper’ hungry for the first time since Sunday. Headache has finally gone too.

I’m going to get up and change my bed today, but still take it quite easy. I’m lucky, I only have a cat depending on me (it’s been a struggle just to sort him out tbh) so I’ve been able to stay in bed and rest properly for the last 5 days. Work are good about it too. If there are no relapses I will be able to wfh for the remainder of isolation.

Wishing everyone else a speedy recovery 💐

Oh, I had a blocked left ear yesterday too but it’s cleared now. Tinnitus is still making itself heard though.

123Shush · 17/03/2022 08:43

Actually, last night I did make the ‘special’ brew that I used to be given as a teenager when I was ill and am wondering if that’s helped my symptoms (recipe given by a nun I knew at the time):

Mix a Beechams powder, some honey and a tot of whiskey in a mug. Heat up some cloudy lemonade, add it to the beechams mix and stir. Drink while hot and then go to sleep.

Note: according to Sr. Maura (the nun who made it for me) the lemonade should be the cloudy one, only use 1 measure of whiskey, drink before bed and have no more than one a night - purely for medicinal purposes.

CottonSock · 17/03/2022 08:52

I'm on day 3. All four of us have it
Tired, aching hips, slight cough, sneezing, runny nose. But mostly just tired. I also felt funny yesterday like faint on standing. I've read this is a symptom so wanted to see if anyone else has it? I had a funny feeling in tummy like hunger pains even though eaten.

Dd8 had a fever of 39 in night and is coughing. Dd5 gave it to us all so is pretty much better now.

BigButtons · 17/03/2022 09:04

@CottonSock I actually felt like I was going to faint whilst lying down- this went on for about three days. A very unnerving sensation. That has mostly passed now as have the ear issues- which I think were related to the dizzy/ faint feeling.

Saucery · 17/03/2022 09:09

Ledkr, I can’t be doing with conversation, or TV, or radio. It makes my head spin. I had to write down some stuff for DH to do with something happening this weekend because I just couldn’t be arsed to formulate sentences about it, or discuss it. Don’t feel guilty, it’s just as much a symptom as anything else.
SpaceyCake · 17/03/2022 09:12

I've just had my first ever positive. I knew it was Covid because my DC had a positive lft yesterday and I started feeling a bit off two days ago. I was feeling a bit wiped out and achey yesterday and had a really sore throat. Also my neck has been more painful than usual. Woke up with my throat on fire and lo and behold, the test was actually positive. Just waiting for DH to get his because he started feeling a bit ropey last night.

I'm hoping this won't be too bad. I'm generally quite fit but do have asthma (although I don't need regular inhalers) and I have not had my booster. I'm pretty pro-vaccines in general and had my first two, but the second one gave me such weird side effects it made my hypochondria/health anxiety go loco so I've been hesitant to have the booster. We'll see what happens!
