Anyone else done now?

VeryMuchSo13 · 21/01/2022 19:26

Know I'll get slated but I'm so past caring.

Anyone else just completely done with it now? Ran out of LFTs ages ago and I'll never do another again, wouldn't even go for a PCR now with symptoms tbh. I'd stay in until I felt better like I do with everything else and then crack on.

The only reason I wear masks in shops is because of people moaning if you don't. As soon as it's no longer required that'll be in the bin.

I actually took it really seriously the past two years and did everything we were supposed to. Triple jabbed etc etc... But I can't be arsed giving it anymore headspace now. I'm sick of hearing about it, sick of seeing it on the news, sick of people talking about it.

From today on I highly doubt I'll ever voluntarily think about Covid again, in a way that restricts anything I do anyway.

Have MN moved this thread?

I suspect you’re not as ‘done’ as you think you are if you’re inclined to start a discussion on a covid-specific board which will appeal to people wanting to specifically talk about covid.

I’m not ‘done’ with covid but I am getting on with my life alongside it and just keeping an eye on any developments as well as the data.

I certainly don’t go seeking conversations about subjects I’m not interested in for anything else so find it odd people would bother to start or respond to a thread about something they’re not interested in.

I think people come to the Covid board for a laugh, I do, I used to also look at the Brexit ones for the same reason and the Boris ones that invariably mention his hair

This is the Covid topic, and the thread is about Covid, so it's in the right place, surely? People are specifically talking about Covid and being done with it (or rather the restrictions). Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 09:09

I have been saying for weeks that the Covid topic should have some sub sections. It's own AIBU would be great.

Nidan2Sandan · 22/01/2022 09:10

When I say I'm done, I dont presume to mean the covid is all gone as clearly that will never happen.

What I mean is, I can no longer live my life with the expectation that I could be infectious. That's not fair, because the chances are higher that I'm actually not infectious more than the chances that I am.

I could be harbouring all sorts of viruses without knowing about it, over many years prior to covid. I never worried then.

I've also had "Long" glandualr fever and spent many months bed bound as a teenager, but I was just unlucky and post viral syndrome isnt new.

Could my children catch covid....yes (they havent had it yet, despite being in primary and secondary schools)
Could they get Long Covid......yes
Is it worth limiting their freedoms, mandating masks, stopping them attending school........absolutely not!!

If they get LC I will support them, as I am currently supporting my 10yo with major mental health issues caused by covid lockdowns. That's what parents do.

I worry about all sorts happening to them. I worry they'll get hit by a car, I worry they'll go for a walk and get lost, I worry they'll get bullied, I worry they'll get an illness much worse than covid, I worry about their future.

But I still want them to live life as normal, and we'll deal if any of those things come to pass.

How odd, someone posting on the covid board to talk about...........wait for it........a covid related subject..

Hopefully then we might get our first 'does my pet hen have covid' thread.
blackcurrantjam · 22/01/2022 09:23

@trevthecat

I currently have covid. I am triple jabbed. We suspect our kid brought it home from nursery as he tested positive first. My dh works away so is staying away this weekend so he doesn't catch it, he is so busy at work. So I am home with 3 kids, all with a bad cold. All feeling rough. I am done. I won't have any further jabs, I am done with masks as soon as possible. I want my life back

Cornettoninja · 22/01/2022 09:27

Post where you like @VeryMuchSo13 I’m not your keeper, I’m just saying I genuinely find it odd that someone who’s over covid is compelled to talk about it. It’s quite easy to avoid now, I am interested in covid and find it easy enough to avoid if I want to so I’m not sure why anyone who isn’t would do that to themselves? Surely you’re just winding yourself up?

I don’t give a shit about lots of things, I don’t seek out subject specific areas on the internet to discuss my disinterest I just don’t give them the headspace and seek out other things.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 09:31

, I’m just saying I genuinely find it odd that someone who’s over covid is compelled to talk about it

OP is talking about how they are over Covid, in the Covid topic, asking if anyone else is over it. It's a Talk Forum, and we have all been talking about it. I don't see the issue.

Hide thread is a great function. I had the whole Covid topic hidden for a bit when it got too Hmm

KurtWilde · 22/01/2022 09:32

Yes. But the data showed that from the start. Sorry but it's infuriating to have been called names for having said "please look at the data" in March 2020 and now have all this "oh, hang on, we've been lied to". Yes. And those of us who tried to say that, looking at ONS and NHS data were labelled anti vaxxers and all sorts of nonsense.

If you didn't know you were being lied to, that's on you. Many people tried to warn you. Many people went on marches. Many people are still now trying to support care workers who have been sacked and NHS workers who might be sacked.Sorry but it's just so INFURIATING to hear all this "ermagerd, they lied, I am shocked".

Threads were pulled, discussion around informative articles was banned. Everyone was warned umpteen bloody times. There is no excuse to say "I didn't know" unless you lapped up a diet of press releases.
Like a pp, I cannot talk about what lockdown did to me. But I can and I will blame those who are to blame. Not just governments, but people who not only swallowed the lies but demonised those of us who didn't believe it was as bad as they said. And masked their kids.

Every bit of what @EmmaH2022 said. I've been called all sorts on this bloody site for saying wait.. look, if the government aren't afraid, why are you? The minute you start to question things (which for me happened about a week into March 2020 lockdown, you also realise what a massive part the media played in helping the government terrify the country, and how contrived the information you're being given is. And the majority have lapped it up like it's the gospel.

And for that, for saying wait.. something isn't adding up here.. you're called a covid denier (nope, had it), a conspiracy theorist (for questioning things, really??), an anti-vaxxer (not in any way shape or form). Conversations shut down, shouted down, deleted, silenced.

And then when everyone realises how much they've been lied to and manipulated, they're surprised! Really? The facts were right in front of you all the time, so if you're surprised to realise how much you've been duped, then as it says above...That's on you.

I lost my grandad and dad to complications of cold/flu virus. They were both what would now be classed as CV. And yet their employers never fucking furloughed them during flu season to protect them, no one insisted people wore masks or isolated when they had cold/flu. And it's only 5 years since we lost my dad, and he wasn't elderly, he had COPD and a fucking COLD finished him off.

And you can fuck off with your 'but it's not flu..' It's a CORONAVIRUS ffs, these things have been around forever. It shares more characteristics with flu than anything else. It's a highly contagious respiratory illness, airborne, and Spain has recently called for it to be treat like flu so that's where it's clearly heading.

Where was the outrage for people dying of flu up until covid? Where was the protection for CV adults and children up until covid? Why did we not lockdown every flu season to protect the vulnerable and stop the NHS from being overwhelmed? Did you even stop to think how the NHS coped every flu season? Did you fuck. I've said it many, many times on this site and I'll say it again. YOU ONLY CARE NOW BECAUSE YOU'VE BEEN TOLD TO.

Cornettoninja · 22/01/2022 09:36

@Sparklingbrook but do you do that with other things you’re not interested in?

Talking about it implies that actually you are interested in it. Why protest so hard that you’re ‘done’ when you’re clearly not? ‘Fed up’, ‘sick of’ etc I get but that’s not finished with.

The OP was seeking opinions of others who felt the same I think, and a discussion is going on. The title is a giveaway of what the thread was about and they didn't state they weren't interested.
I just join in on a thread if I fancy it whatever it's about, and hide a lot of threads as I go along if they are of no interest to me, yes.

Do chickens have nostrils?.....now thats going to take me down a weird rabbit hole when l Google 😆. Agree @sparklingbrook et al. Its a covid topic thread is about covid, maybe we need a Private Fraser "We're doooomed dooooooooomed!" section and a section for others?
TillyTopper · 22/01/2022 09:47

Yep totally over it. I've had CV19, I'm triple jabbed... I've gone back to normal.

Yes! We could have -

Covid 'We're all doomed'' sub section and then a 'Covid- reasons to be optimistic' sub section, and a Covid AIBU for daft questions and petty covid gripes. And maybe a Covid Health section for proper serious questions about Covid/long covid/side effects etc.
