Anyone else done now?

Know I'll get slated but I'm so past caring.

Anyone else just completely done with it now? Ran out of LFTs ages ago and I'll never do another again, wouldn't even go for a PCR now with symptoms tbh. I'd stay in until I felt better like I do with everything else and then crack on.

The only reason I wear masks in shops is because of people moaning if you don't. As soon as it's no longer required that'll be in the bin.

I actually took it really seriously the past two years and did everything we were supposed to. Triple jabbed etc etc... But I can't be arsed giving it anymore headspace now. I'm sick of hearing about it, sick of seeing it on the news, sick of people talking about it.

From today on I highly doubt I'll ever voluntarily think about Covid again, in a way that restricts anything I do anyway.

I'm done.

I still wore masks inside public places the last time restrictions were eased. I was in the minority.

By wearing a mask, I was led to believe I was protecting others whilst it was obvious others weren't protecting me.

It appears that many people (probably the vast majority) didn't follow the rules throughout lockdowns.

It's all hypocrites calling others hypocrites now.

I feel like a fool for following the rules.

We had three grandchildren born during the lockdowns (two very prematurely and both in NICU for 6 weeks) and I still followed the bloody rules. I neglected my daughters and grandchildren.

How stupid am I ?

Also trying to figure out what @bluetongue said that was racist? Can anyone shed any light?

I think the insinuation was because of certain cultures and religious traditions (not actually race-based) who often wear face coverings in public (not an expert, but I think even they usually only do that in the presence of non-family men and not in a childcare context).

It's quite ironic that we originally locked down and destroyed so many lives as a direct result in order to protect the NHS; and yet, now we're at the tail-end, we can apparently easily afford as a nation to just dump tens of thousands of dedicated NHS professionals (many of the ones we once called heroes and banged saucepans for), just because they choose to exercise bodily autonomy for whatever personal reasons.

@EmmaH2022 great post. Sums it up 100% 🙌🏻

sleepwouldbenice · 22/01/2022 01:26

Oh good another "I'm done' thread. How different

nanny2012nanny · 22/01/2022 01:32

I’ve always maintained that covid would end tomorrow if you had to pay for the lateral flow and PCR tests and weren’t paid to isolate.

greenteafiend · 22/01/2022 06:32

That could be construed as rather racist Bluetongue (not to mention incredibly offensive to victims of genuine child abuse). If not racist, certainly very western centric.

What is on earth is that supposed to mean?

greenteafiend · 22/01/2022 06:36

Well you'd avoid a vulnerable person if you had the flu but you could have covid and not know. Passing it on could kill them, it's not the same as the flu

Er.... flu is a killer for immune suppressed people as well, and of course you can have flu without knowing it! It's asymptomatic in lots of people.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 22/01/2022 06:38

Pretty much done with asymptomatic testing and worrying about every sniffle.

However, I am triple vaccinated and had Covid recently (probably delta, as just before omicron prevalent).

However, will continue to wear masks and (obviously) stay home if I have a fever and test.

Covid, however, is not ‘over’ just because you are fed up with it, and vulnerable people still deserve consideration. In a few months, though, we will probably legitimately be able to call it endemic and not pandemic.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 06:39

It’s different to all the whining about wearing or non wearing of masks threads or talking about Boris and his hair.
Inthesameboatatmo · 22/01/2022 06:41

I've been done with it since the first lockdown op . Had 2 jabs won't be getting the booster absolutely over the whole fuckin thing .

OK so basically scaring the shit of of everyone that they're at a real risk of dying- but how does the Government now go about un scaring people.

This is a conspiracy theorists dream, I mean they will convince some people that Covid is actually not that risky after all the so called "it's just like a cold" view. But the conspiracy theorists will leap on this with a "see we told you so and now you've all been injected with something that will turn you into [lizards / worker drones / infertile] etc.

Or they will fail to convince people that it is no longer a risk. At which point the conspiracy theory is that the vulnerable and elderly are being sacrificed in the name of evil Tories / big business/ vaccine manufacturers etc.

This is not boding well for societal cohesion over the next 5 to 8 years.
I think a lot of people will just stop focusing on it when the media stops

Some will feel annoyed I guess

I thought the reaction was bad for young people and have for a while, and that messaging meant many called out for it

It does seem the media has got better at doom and whipping us up - eg petrol crisis and now excruciating partygate

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 07:23

You can definitely be done with it and still realise Covid is not over.

I can see a feint glimmer that the media stuff is slowing down now, other stories are making the front pages etc. There was a point when I was done with reading the news. I had a few months off MN at the start of the pandemic because I was done with the relentless Covid daft questions.

ringoutthebells · 22/01/2022 07:29

I feel the same. Have actually never done an LFT (never had any symptoms either though). Have given dd6 2, as requested by others. Otherwise no. Will do the minimum not to get moaned at by others.

Perfectlystill · 22/01/2022 07:35

Beautifully put @EmmaH2022

Yes, I know MN loves saying that it isn't the flu if you aren't so rough you couldn't crawl out of bed to get a £50 note, but that's bollocks.

How?

Covid patients need treating?

FindingMeno · 22/01/2022 08:10

Agreed.
Have abided by the rules, watching others break them.
I now just want to crack on.

LittleSnakes · 22/01/2022 08:18

Yep also done with it now.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 08:20

@VikingOnTheFridge I also had no idea asymptomatic flu was possible. I am now wondering how many times I have had that!

MarshmallowFondant · 22/01/2022 08:23

I was done about 9 months ago to be honest.

LittleSnakes · 22/01/2022 08:25

I also hadn’t heard of asymptomatic flu and colds until the pandemic.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 08:27

Well if asymptomatic flu and colds do exist then there's absolutely nothing you can do about them. Unless you behave as if you have the flu 24/7 just in case.

VikingOnTheFridge · 22/01/2022 08:38
@VikingOnTheFridge I also had no idea asymptomatic flu was possible. I am now wondering how many times I have had that!
Quite possibly several!

blackcurrantjam · 22/01/2022 08:40

@Pat123dev

Yep done. We had a cold last week did the bloody lfts as per instructions etc all neg. Carry on as normal, bloody friend was saying - ooh you need to swab your throat now etc etc. I just though ohh you can piss off!!

I'm done, it's not the same virus it was, these precautions are unnecessary now. We dont isolate for flu each year!!

And beside, my kids mental health towards the end of last year was crap, this constant stop start at schools/clubs is doing them harm!

Yes! The stop start thing is driving us round the bend?! We just need some consistency Confused. So done.
trevthecat · 22/01/2022 08:44

I currently have covid. I am triple jabbed. We suspect our kid brought it home from nursery as he tested positive first. My dh works away so is staying away this weekend so he doesn't catch it, he is so busy at work. So I am home with 3 kids, all with a bad cold. All feeling rough. I am done. I won't have any further jabs, I am done with masks as soon as possible. I want my life back
