On the basis that hospitals ARE overwhelmed, not just a risk of being overwhelmed

RunRunGingerbreadMan · 07/01/2022 16:17

5 on stages and maybe 1 or 0 for the measures in place.

Pootle40 · 07/01/2022 16:18

The definitions make no sense any more as we have very high volume of a low risk virus.

Postdatedpandemic · 07/01/2022 16:19

Officially?
Probably 3 or the 1822 committee would kick off

Overthebow · 07/01/2022 16:20

We need new definitions really as the virus is now different/we are in a very different situation as to when they were first set up. But going by this, I would say 4.

Covidworries · 07/01/2022 16:20

,@pootle40 but hospitals are past being at risk of being overwhelmed they are overwhelmed restrictions are needed to prevent total colapse

The measures column needs reevaluating and updating to reflect the lower risk.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/01/2022 16:21

How many variants old is that thing?

Pootle40 · 07/01/2022 16:22

No they're not. They're understaffed due to isolation.

😂 peri-peri! You are more polite than me, I would guess BS level.
NormaSnorks · 07/01/2022 16:26

It's really strange, but my experience with direct family members is that many hospitals are NOT currently overwhelmed.

YES, respiratory wards and ambulance services in SOME hospitals, maybe in most urban hospitals may be busy/ overwhelmed, but we're seeing other services continuing as normal.

97 year old FIL went into hospital for some routine surgery last week and said it didn't feel busy at all. In fact he was in a 3 person ward on his own.
My friend who is a matron has said the same.

I'm not saying there aren't problems with the parts of the service covid directly hits, but the commonly touted belief that the WHOLE service is ON IT'S KNEES isn't true!

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2022 16:26

Why do you ask OP?

Postdatedpandemic · 07/01/2022 16:26

I think I have found it, ( on the Welsh gov site) they don't seem over keen for anyone to know

It was all over the news a little while ago that the alert level was raised to level 4 in the UK.

Whatayear81 · 07/01/2022 16:28

Went in for a routine scan yesterday
Large hospital in the SE

So slick and absolutely not giving even the whiff of impression that not coping.

ChristmasHost21 · 07/01/2022 16:28

Well I think 3!
Overthebow · 07/01/2022 16:30

Yes we are currently at 4 which seems appropriate, with appropriate measures given the knowledge we have of the new strain, and the vaccines we have.

Redcrayons · 07/01/2022 16:31

About 47 in the left column and 1.2 on the right hand column.

Are we still doing stages? I thought this had gone a long time ago.
