What have they got there, but not here?

Pandemic border control.
High vaccination rate (including double vaxxed 12+).
Mask adherence.
Vaccine passes.
Mandatory vaccines for certain jobs working with the vulnerable eg health and social care.
More supply of sotrovimab.

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2022 17:24

Anyway where's @PrincessNutNuts gone? They asked the question but not been back?

NightmareSlashDelightful · 07/01/2022 17:24

But England has mitigations: masks in shops, NHS covid pass or whatever it's called to enter larger events, requests to test, wfh if you can.

And yet numbers are flying up…

Have you looked at case number increase?

Tealightsandd · 07/01/2022 17:27

London looks to have peaked as well

Yeah to a 'high' plateau. And there's the rest of the country to think about too.

Military helping out at London's overwhelmed hospitals, overflowing bins uncollected. Trains and tube closures due to staff sickness (there's strikes too as an added bonus).

Things are sooo good.

I don’t think anyone is saying they aren’t bad just what actually works with this and doesn’t cause more harm
No country has figured that out yet

Tealightsandd · 07/01/2022 17:32

And action is being taken. Unlike here.

Omicron is highly transmissible, and Morrison pushed too hard to reopen borders. Australia's good approach so far is in spite of not because of ScoMo.

PrincessNutNuts · 07/01/2022 17:32

@NightmareSlashDelightful

I thought the Australian approach had taken an about-turn recently, and they've taken the decision to let omicron run because the country is now so highly vaccinated? PM Scott Morrison was on about this recently.
Yeah Australia recently moved to a "living alongside the virus" "cases don't matter" strategy.

Just in time for Omicron.

Probably doing an LFT

Because she farted and she read somewhere that farting was a symptom

It won’t do much unless severe. So I wouldn’t get too happy about light restrictions.

The biggest drop will come after the peak

If London is at peak then I’d prefer that. You won’t get a drop through restrictions.

Tealightsandd · 07/01/2022 17:37

And "flying up" but their figures are not in any way comparable to the UK, particularly England. It would be quite some achievement to be as bad as us.

Re Wales. Drakeford is doing his best but is hampered by limitations of power - including borders. I doubt all those Welsh revellers who brought English infections back to Wales after NYE helped matters.

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2022 17:38

Oh hello OP, you'r back. Why do you ask what level we think we're at?

Tealightsandd · 07/01/2022 17:39

Because she farted and she read somewhere that farting was a symptom

Well actually gastric problems are a symptom. Not the odd everyday fart, but excessive wind or diarrhoea could well be Covid.

Not all of Australia. Mark McGowan in WA in particular stood strong against Scott Morrison's attempt to be an Aussie Bojo.

Whatayear81 · 07/01/2022 17:42

@Tealightsandd

Since when is “a fart” a sign of a gastric problem?

When you scratch an itch, one itch, would make you then concerned it was a sign of a dermatology problem?

I could go on

Tealightsandd · 07/01/2022 17:42

With the election coming up, I expect Morrison's belatedly realised it's best not to kill and disable loads of your potential voters.

I believe everything is a symptom now. Just to be sure. You could probably catch Covid from reading this thread.

Yep sorry.

My godchildren have come to stay for a month. It's general uproar here.

Ah @PrincessNutNuts I thought it was a quiz and you would come back and tell us the answer?

Quartz2208 · 07/01/2022 17:51

@PrincessNutNuts those countries had border controls to keep it out (something it was too late for us to do)

Japan is now rising and starting with tougher restrictions if they work then yes maybe that should have been us

China have managed to squelch delta though but at what cost

So again show me something realistic that works (and not masks because we have them and they do have some impact) rather than just graphs (with no further statements)

Do you agree though Princess and @Tealightsandd that chart does need an omicron overhaul

Tealightsandd · 07/01/2022 17:56

PrincessNutNuts those countries had border controls to keep it out (something it was too late for us to do)

Too late.... Said before Delta arrived, and then again before Omicron...

Japan's figures are rising from a much lower number - and they're taking proactive mitigations.

Look at Japan's (low) number of deaths compared to our very high number. Thanks to their sensible basic infection control mitigations, they'll have fewer Long Covid disabled too.

Don't know, and quite honestly I don't really care.
