How can they still say nothing?

So numbers today over 183,000. How can BoJo and his cronies still be making no statement? No clear guidance, nothing. I'm not wanting lockdown or anything but can't believe they're so quiet over all this.

Those families made their own choices though, they had the option to isolate prior to Christmas and not catch it, but they didn’t.

They had a choice over going to work and sending the DC to school, did they? Nice to see that the "it's your own fault if you catch it" narrative is alive and well.

I think if the scientists wanted more lock downs they’d be telling Boris to do so

They have.

Kennykenkencat · 29/12/2021 21:48

I am unsure what is supposed to be said.

People shouldn’t need to be told that if they don’t want to get ill then be careful who you mix with. We can’t keep locking down or bringing in restrictions as then the hospitals might not be full but different people would still suffer

Tessellation · 29/12/2021 21:51

Because governing shouldn't just be about giving the public what they want. It shouldn't be about pacifying back-benchers who are being "lobbied" (good word for effectively bribed) to act in the interests of specific businesses / individuals.

If we've learned anything in the past year it's surely that the lack of any our governments to look to the long-term good of our country - through planning, investment, restructuring - has left us open to irreparable damage. With respect to our climate, our health service, pandemic preparedeness, our international relations. And it's happening again now. But in a years' time, when so many more of us have experienced the terrible consequences of the current Covid numbers on NHS staffing levels, and the knock-on effect on waiting lists and waiting times, we'll likely forget that we chose this path in favour of the freedom of being able to go to the pub when we want. We'll blame immigrants for the long waiting lists. And the next line of Tories will jump on it for public popularity, never once attempting to explain the real reason.

But it's fine, because we can go to the pub when we want to. And that's what matters to us most, now.

This thread demonstrates the inability of most people to understand growth projection of data we have.
“Everything is fine”. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Tessellation
Great post

Exactly

What do people want? More restrictions?

If no then what’s to say

inheritancetrack · 29/12/2021 22:00

It's a mild bug for most people, especially if vaccinated. There will always be deaths and I imagine most who die have severe co morbidities. Even the common cold and flu can kill. I think a statistician needs to look at the figures around these severe illnesses and deaths. It's also winter and respiratory illness unrelated to covid rocket now.

hamstersarse · 29/12/2021 22:00

At least this has shown that vaccine passports are totally ridiculous.
Most of the cases are in the vaccinated, myself included

Let’s hope this has stopped that idiocy in its tracks

MissMaple82 · 29/12/2021 22:02

Because we need to crack on with our lives and learn to live with it thats why!

mellongoose · 29/12/2021 22:04

Thank goodness Boris is holding firm for now. Unless we see evidence for the need for further restrictions, I will not support them.

It is imperative that the government balances other needs in society as well as covid.

Any teachers parping on about substandard supply teachers or cover need to think very carefully about the kids for whom school is the only anchor they have. Keep. Schools. Open. Whatever it takes. I'm sorry, teachers, but you will have to suck it up, just like the rest of us.

Kids in school, even if not with their usual teacher, are much better off.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/12/2021 22:04

@HighlandCowbag

I suspect the strain on the nhs is caused by the self isolation rules. Scrap them, testing and reporting anything except hospital admissions and let everyone get back to normal. Omicron is so transmissible lockdowns won't work. The issues are being caused by staff shortages for a cold.
Certainly is in my trust. And people having to go off and wait for PCR results for being a close contact.

So what sort of decisions do you think a vulnerable worker (or someonewho lives with someone vulnerable) with a public facing job should make? What are the choices you think they have?
MrsBerthaRochester · 29/12/2021 22:05

Can all the lockdown lovers stay at home so the rest of us can get on with it. Its a MILD illness for the VAST majority.

MissMaple82 · 29/12/2021 22:06

Don't test, then they can work. People need to STOP testing!! Stay off if very ill otherwise crack on

Lavender24 · 29/12/2021 22:06

Good. Time to get on with our lives.

Barbie222 · 29/12/2021 22:08

Ooh, so what will we do then when there aren't any teachers well enough in your child's school? They've already tried asking the retired and ex teachers in, and somehow it didn't work - I'm sure we'll all be keen to hear about how you plan to magic teachers out of thin air. This attitude has basically sent schools into the place they're currently in. Total La La land!

noblegiraffe · 29/12/2021 22:08

You don't have a clue what you're talking about do you? What teacher? What supply? You know the government is begging ex teachers to come back and they've basically laughed and said no?

It's not about 'substandard' supply teachers, it's about there being no supply teachers.

StoneofDestiny · 29/12/2021 22:08

Do you really want another Peppa Pig speech from that idiot?

Theluggage15 · 29/12/2021 22:09

God. Who cares? Just do what you want. Oh look lots of people got a mild illness today. How fascinating.

noblegiraffe · 29/12/2021 22:10

If no then what’s to say

I'm guessing you must live a pretty sheltered life, Marsha if there can be 183K cases in a day and you to not even wonder what plan the government has to deal with that. Restrictions OR otherwise.

I don’t need to hear anything right now no.

Like many other posters on this thread. Tag away to them too.

I’m not interested in thoughts on sheltered life whatever that means.

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 22:13

This made me laugh, all we have discussed for nearly two years now is the death stats - multiple university teams are poring over them daily!

noblegiraffe · 29/12/2021 22:15

I don’t need to hear anything right now no.

That’s what I mean by sheltered.

This coming shitshow is apparently of no concern to you.

So long as school is open, right?

RoyalFamilyFan · 29/12/2021 22:15

Just watched Dont Look Up. Some of this thread is familiar.
