How can they still say nothing?

So numbers today over 183,000. How can BoJo and his cronies still be making no statement? No clear guidance, nothing. I'm not wanting lockdown or anything but can't believe they're so quiet over all this.

Isn't BJ MIA still? Probs still trying to find him

SunshineCake1 · 29/12/2021 19:09

Surely by now people can make their own decisions to keep themselves safe ?

Immaculatemisconception · 29/12/2021 19:10

18 deaths reported today.

ffscovid · 29/12/2021 19:12

More importantly, the hospital admission threshold has been breached Sad

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/12/2021 19:12

What does he need to say exactly?

183k caught a bug today which appears from the data to be fairly harmless.

Theyellowflamingo · 29/12/2021 19:24

What do you want him to say? There’s already been guidance and most of it is flaming obvious anyway. Unless you think there should be new restrictions, why do you want him to provide a running commentary on the entirely foreseeable consequences of the strategy he has chosen. I only want to hear from a politician if they have something useful to say.

BlissfullyIgnorant · 29/12/2021 19:25

Don't forget that figure includes all the Northern Ireland cases that haven't been reported thus far. I'm not even sure Scotland's cases are added in yet so it could go over 200,000 tomorrow

Lies, damn lies and statistics. The latter being mostly at play in the figures today

Creepypastard · 29/12/2021 19:25

I've just seen Boris talking on the news, was that not today? I thought they said it was.

SparklingLime · 29/12/2021 19:28

YANBU. He is failing to lead or govern.

What, like giving up work if they have a customer facing job?

The truth is, the higher numbers get the more difficult it is for anyone to keep themselves safe.

That said, its hospitalisations/deaths that are the important numbers in all this. How are these doing?

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 29/12/2021 19:30

Johnson is no longer in charge. The Tories are a rudderless ship until they get round to replacing him. With whom remains to be seen.

Candyss · 29/12/2021 19:30

from bbc:

Hospital numbers though are continuing to rise more slowly than cases, once again showing the Omicron variant is leading to milder illness.

And there are signs infection levels in London, which was hit by Omicron first, may have already peaked.

If that is the case and the trajectory is repeated elsewhere, it could mean the burden on the NHS peaking at half the level seen last winter.

what is it you want to be advised on?

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 29/12/2021 19:32

What guidance do you need op ? It's time for people to think for themselves now

Guacamole001 · 29/12/2021 19:32

They should stop daily cases reports and concentrate on hospital admissions and deaths instead.

Totally agree
Circlesandtriangles · 29/12/2021 19:34

We are back to over 10,000 people in hospital in England with Covid, the highest number since the 1st or 2nd of March.

Net numbers in hospital look to be climbing by around 1,000+ per day in England, data delays make full UK picture hard to draw at the moment.

We did have over 30,000 people in hospital with Covid at peak earlier this year which we are a long way off - but hospitalisations of 1000+ a day are concerning.

It's scary to hear of the ambulance delays more than anything right now. Hard to know what is right to do but they have seemed quite absent.

Yup.

Doesn't need to be daily updates! Unless there's rule changes, we don't just need random updates. We're nearly two years in, it's just unnecessary.

Weakandconfused · 29/12/2021 19:35

The hospital data is readily available on the internet, people should look at these figures rather than be spoon fed dramatic sound bites from the press .

Hospitalisations are at a quarter of what they were during the Delta peak. That's with about 5 or 6 times higher case numbers, AND no lockdown.

What is the concern?

Muthalucka · 29/12/2021 19:36

Isn’t it mild for most people?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/12/2021 19:37

In hospital because of covid or in hospital with covid?

Which of them would be stupid enough to want to take over this shit show? They're probably all hiding. Johnson is 'it' and he can't find a single one of the fuckers.
Hospedia · 29/12/2021 19:40

What is the concern?

That the pressures on infrastructure, such as staffing and admissions, is squeezing capacity elsewhere. There was a thread just the other day with a two hour wait for a suspected heart attack. My local A&E had a 10hr wait time. If the hospital is struggling to cope with covid patients and has a loss of staff due to them being ill/isolating then there is no one to deal with the heart attacks, the work accidents, the car crashes, the overdoses, the strokes, etc.

Exactly. Either don’t tell us, or tell us alongside the deaths from many other illnesses too to actually give some context.
