How can they still say nothing?

So numbers today over 183,000. How can BoJo and his cronies still be making no statement? No clear guidance, nothing. I'm not wanting lockdown or anything but can't believe they're so quiet over all this.

Exactly, sick of nobody looking after themselves but expecting the PM to tell them what’s the obviously correct/safe thing to do!

StoneofDestiny · 30/12/2021 21:16

For most of the time since he became PM he has said nothing, avoided being interviewed on TV and even tried to shut down Parliament. Look what happened when he did speak recently - we got Peppa Pig.

Lifeisnteasy · 30/12/2021 21:17

@Plumedenom

People saying we can make our own decisions to keep ourselves safe ..tell that to my mum who has been shielding all year and only caught it in A&E when her pulse was low and blood pressure rocketed, sent there by her GP. I'll people are avoiding hospitals for god's sake. We are in a complete mess.
I’m sorry your mum was ill but what has this got to do with anything..?
Hospedia · 30/12/2021 21:17

He should be making a statement to explain what the government is doing to increase testing capacity, medical care capacity, and to keep infrastructure running in the wake of increasing cases/increase in isolating. Basically "yes numbers are up but here is how we're dealing with it".

He's the leader of the nation, its about time he started - oooh, I don't know - fucking leading.

Sorry for your mum Thanks

@MrsLargeEmbodied

there are no trains to victoria station until 10th january due to covid Shock on southern services
But they’re going to London Bridge and a shutdown for engineering works is being extended. People are meant to be working from home if possible. It’s not the end of days!
Jewel52 · 30/12/2021 21:20

@Hospedia

So is your view that we should have more restrictions imposed on the vast majority of people (and time has shown that the vast majority do follow the rules) as a result of the behaviours of those who don’t?

Do you really believe that everyone who follows the rules doesn't get covid and that its only those who don't that catch it?

Obviously not - saying that most people are trying to mitigate their risk as best they can. And that a lockdown comes with its own pressures as others on here have pointed out
LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 21:20

@Winterflower84

No, you clearly want lockdown. What do you want him so say? That you need to wash your hands frequently, wear a mask when in crowded places or try to avoid crowded places altogether? Did you not know all this already? I think it's time we all be guided by common sense rather than the government guidance!
I hope she’s ok.

People are going to catch it. But with boosters and vaccines it’s not that scary.

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 21:22

An definitely got those vibes from someone last Christmas when we all got it. Clearly we were stupid for catching a transmissible illness.

But then he’s a twat

Hospedia · 30/12/2021 21:22

No one has said it doesn't and I haven't seen anyone on the thread calling for a hard lockdown. What I have seen is people understandably concerned that the government, particularly the PM, don't feel any need to make a statement about what they are doing to mitigate the effects of the large rise in case numbers and lack of testing capacity.

rrhuth · 30/12/2021 21:23

I’m sorry your mum was ill but what has this got to do with anything..?

Very insensitive.

The point is that the vulnerable can't shield, because sooner or later they have to access healthcare, or other services. People who say they want the vulnerable to shield are really saying they don't care if the vulnerable catch covid.

rrhuth · 30/12/2021 21:25

Yes exactly.

He could for example explain that his government is rather concerned given they have started organising overflow hopsital capacity in car park, and tell us what he is going to do to help keep that situation under control.

Why is it insensitive? All she said was her mum caught covid in hospital. I’m sympathetic, but don’t see how that’s particularly meaningful to our debate.

Would you be in favour of restrictions if covid was still here in 5 or 6 years’ time?

CrankyFrankie · 30/12/2021 21:27

Chill! Boris Pfeffle certainly is... probably in a random fridge somewhere.

Againstmachine · 30/12/2021 21:27

Nope but you see many on threads envying the Chinese approach, and yes they do exist.

Exactly this.

The papers are running scary stories about expanding morgues and hospitals in car parks. They are not the people we should be hearing this from.

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 21:34

He could for example explain that his government is rather concerned given they have started organising overflow hopsital capacity in car park, and tell us what he is going to do to help keep that situation under control.

Why does the PM have to do this. We don’t need daily updates. It’s a backup plan. It’s hoped that it won’t be needed. What else is there to say? 🤷‍♀️

noblegiraffe · 30/12/2021 21:38

Why does the PM have to do this

Because he’s the leader of the country and that’s what leaders do in a time of crisis.

It reassures people that someone is in charge and knows what’s going on, what people’s concerns are.

At the moment, it seems as if no one is in charge, which is also worrying.

rrhuth · 30/12/2021 21:39

Leaders should lead. There is no point making excuses for him, he is useless.
LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 21:45

Leaders should lead. There is no point making excuses for him, he is useless.

I’m not making excuses for him. I thinks he’s hopeless but I don’t see what him making yet another pointless broadcast will achieve.

There’s nothing new to say. If you haven’t been vaccinated/boosted as appropriate then do it. He’s said that several times. What else is there to say?

noblegiraffe · 30/12/2021 21:47

The papers are finding new things to say. There are definitely things to address.

And a plan. We need a plan.

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2021 21:48

It is a bit ' we are making some new hubs for eight hospitals which will cost the taxpayers again , but I'm not bothered about telling people why it's being done '
If this was a Labour leader being so cavalier about information and not bothering to tell people what is going on I'm sure that the press would be hounding them and giving them a hard time of it !

hamstersarse · 30/12/2021 21:48

Why do you need big Boris to tell you what to do?

I think a lot of people have Daddy issues.

ChloeDecker · 30/12/2021 21:49

Today’s figures are not as high today because barely anyone could get a test yesterday-no walk ins, no drive throughs and PCRs sent to homes all out. This is in London.

You can't actually mean the things you type, surely.
