How can they still say nothing?

So numbers today over 183,000. How can BoJo and his cronies still be making no statement? No clear guidance, nothing. I'm not wanting lockdown or anything but can't believe they're so quiet over all this.

@noblegiraffe

Why does the PM have to do this

Because he’s the leader of the country and that’s what leaders do in a time of crisis.

It reassures people that someone is in charge and knows what’s going on, what people’s concerns are.

At the moment, it seems as if no one is in charge, which is also worrying.

The ERG is in charge.

That's why we're all about to have a truly shit January

(But hospitals, the unvaccinated, and the clinically extremely vulnerable to covid are about to have the worst of it.)

noblegiraffe · 30/12/2021 21:52

A plan is not Boris telling me what to do.

It’s a plan for how to deal with rapidly rising and increasingly alarming case numbers, which will have an impact across the country.

You know, like when the petrol stations ran dry so they got the military out. That sort of plan, how they will keep essential services running.

rrhuth · 30/12/2021 21:53

@LittleBearPad

Leaders should lead. There is no point making excuses for him, he is useless.

I’m not making excuses for him. I thinks he’s hopeless but I don’t see what him making yet another pointless broadcast will achieve.

There’s nothing new to say. If you haven’t been vaccinated/boosted as appropriate then do it. He’s said that several times. What else is there to say?

Maybe you have not lived under a normal PM before, but he should be visibly in charge. That is the role of a PM during a time of uncertainty in a nation.

I do not need him to tell me what to do, but I am accustomed to living under a functioning government with a Prime Minister who gives a shit about what is happening.

Britain is a great country and we deserve a functioning government. Government really does matter.

CherryPieface · 30/12/2021 21:55

I think Johnson should at least clarify what is happening with tests running low or worse) and news reports of Nightingale hospitals being constructed. We need reassurance at the very least.

rrhuth · 30/12/2021 21:55

@hamstersarse

Why do you need big Boris to tell you what to do?

I think a lot of people have Daddy issues.

This is such an embarrassing comment.

It is about how the government is functioning. Having a functioning government is vital.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 30/12/2021 21:56

I think someone has been having Christmas drinkies.

JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 21:58

Yeah Boris .

It's where he's been for 10 days.

Noticing the Tory flock are a bit desperate tonight though.

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2021 22:00

Seems to me that as long as the 100 ' rebel' MPs and the DM journalists are happy that NYE can go ahead and the PM has ' held his nerve ' about any more restrictions for England, then everybody else can just get on with it
The poor lady pharmacist on tv yesterday sounded so frustrated that people are having a go at her because they can't get hold of any tests.
The hubs have only been explained on the news ( after telling us about Maxwell as the lead story )
The figures are being brushed aside a bit because Omnicron is ' mild' but still bad enough for new hospital hubs to be made / erected or whatever.
Our leader was off for three days for Christmas, but hasn't been seen for longer than this
Yet it's all fine to do this during a pandemic as long as people can go out and get drunk in England tomorrow night.

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2021 22:03

We do not have a functioning government, there is obviously a very big vacuum at the top and many seem to think that the pandemic is now over it seems( !)
If this was Sir Kier Starmer acting like this the DM would want him hung strung and quartered!

This is absolutely what is going on. What a shit show.
Harmonypuss · 30/12/2021 22:16

The figures is like to see are the split between vaccinated and unvaccinated for hospitalizations and deaths, that way everyone would see that vaccinated people in either of these scenarios only make up a very small percentage and that its the unvaccinated who form the majority of these cases, then the government could maybe look at further measures but primarily for those who are taking up all our precious NHS resources, not those of us who are fully vaccinated.

Hospedia · 30/12/2021 22:18

Boosters aside, the governments current policy relies entirely on people taking personal responsibility via increased testing. Visiting your nan? Do a test first. Going to the panto? Do a test first. Hitting the sales? Test first. Off to the pub? Test first. Hospital appointment that miraculously hasn't been cancelled? Test first. Seeing your mates? Test first. Want to get out of isolation early? Test. School term starting? Test all the kids from year 7 and up. Got symptoms? Test. Been in close contact? Test.

Test, test, test. That's the crux of their "be careful" strategy.

And yet they didn't think to make sure there was capacity in the testing system for it!? You couldn't fucking make it up. Its a level of incompetence that defies belief.

The defence of Johnson on this thread is simply 🤯. He could eat babies and some people would still defend him.

Blind Ideology is a terrible thing.

Well there are food shortages so in times of crisis…
IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 30/12/2021 22:39

Blind ideology is what has screwed the UK's pandemic response.

How can they still say nothing?
JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 22:40

Johnson could shit in the slippers of the Tory faithful on MN and they'd still support him.

They'd still repeat platitudes about Labour being untrustworthy and the "knows what a woman is". People buy into it too.

This government's failures have given us all a terrible last two years and are probably about to top that this January.

But ideological, political typed are annoyed with SAGE for doing what the government asked them to do, and Independent SAGE for having opinions.

It's not remotely logical.

But it's fine.

None of us took in the responsibility to protect the people of this country.

But the government did.

And they're not doing it.

("Shit in their slippers" is an excellent expression. )
@Tealightsandd healthy young-ish people who have been vaccinated.
My neighbour was all that.

He died.

Tealightsandd · 30/12/2021 23:04

So sorry to hear about your neighbour @Madhairday

Galiano · 30/12/2021 23:06

They're so out of their depth now they can't do anything. Corrupt, inept cunts responsible for 1000's of avoidable deaths.

Madhairday · 30/12/2021 23:09

Thanks, tealights. He's not the only young person I know who has died of covid, sadly 😢

Tealightsandd · 30/12/2021 23:09

@ChloeDecker

Today’s figures are not as high today because barely anyone could get a test yesterday-no walk ins, no drive throughs and PCRs sent to homes all out. This is in London.
This.^^

Separately,

People are meant to be working from home if possible.

It's not possible for huge numbers of people. Including the HCP working in London's hospitals - many of whom can't afford to live anywhere close (due to London being the epicentre of the public health housing and homelessness emergency).

RoyalFamilyFan · 30/12/2021 23:13

All the chemists where I live have notices up that they have no lateral flow tests available.
