How can they still say nothing?

So numbers today over 183,000. How can BoJo and his cronies still be making no statement? No clear guidance, nothing. I'm not wanting lockdown or anything but can't believe they're so quiet over all this.

@SunshineCake1

Surely by now people can make their own decisions to keep themselves safe ?
This.
WonderfulYou · 29/12/2021 20:18

But we know all this? This pandemic seems to have completely infantilised people, sitting passively awaiting basic instructions.

Most leaders would still reassure people.

Everyone knows what to do.

Wash your hands
Keep a distance where possible
Test regularly especially if you've had contact
Isolate if necessary
Don't go to busy places if you are vulnerable/worried
Have the sodding vaccine that has been on offer free of charge all year

I don't think we need someone to constantly be reminding us what to do and we certainly don't need another lockdown or restrictions. For most people it is no more than a cold, for clinically vulnerable people they need to be extra careful, and well those who are refusing the vaccine, that's their call and their health.

Purplegurple · 29/12/2021 20:20

What do I want?? Leadership!! I work about the strain on the NHS, as the reports say the numbers of hospitalisations does appear to be on the increase. Deaths will be out of whack due to the bank holidays. I work that we're at these numbers now and should have been closed for a week and a half - what will happen when the kids go back? So all of these things won't let us go about life as some of you state. As a PP started, BJ came on the TV, announced we were in an emergency and had been MIA ever since! Surely it's not unreasonable to expect leadership during these times.

If lots of people get a mild dose now, isolate and recover they will be back to work after the holiday season… aka teachers. Bojo always was going for hers immunity

AngryWithH · 29/12/2021 20:20

@LynxGiftsetAndSocks

what are people scared about?? its mild

people are coping with it and returning to work

And this. Seriously - some people really are do desperate to make ‘Omicron’ out to be a big deal when it really isn’t.
Purplegurple · 29/12/2021 20:21

Worry, not work, stupid autocorrect

Hopefully the next time he speaks its to cut the isolation time

MrsDThomas · 29/12/2021 20:23

Its a mild bug. Like a bad cold.

More people die of cancer/heart disease/strikes/suicide than this.

Time to live with it. It ain’t going away.

I read something today that US have gone down to 5 days?

FOJN · 29/12/2021 20:23

I'm cautiously optimistic about the current numbers. Hospital admissions are up, it may be too soon to tell how much impact that may have on deaths, but our daily hospital admissions have been in excess of 700 for a few months now and our number of ventilated patients is currently lower than mid December. We'll have to wait and see what happens but after two years we all know what to do to minimise transmission so I'm not sure what you want the government to say.

I suspect the number of cases and isolations will be more of a problem over the next couple of weeks than hospital admissions themselves.

MrsDThomas · 29/12/2021 20:24

Be lucky BJ hasn’t said much. Wales is leading the nation in being fucking ridiculous.

Lifeisnteasy · 29/12/2021 20:24

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

What does he need to say exactly?

183k caught a bug today which appears from the data to be fairly harmless.

This.

I'm not sure you do know what to do. You've got wash your hands at the top of your list and wearing a mask nowhere on it. For an airborne virus.

Lifeisnteasy · 29/12/2021 20:26

As time goes on I’m becoming more convinced that those desperate for restrictions and obsessing over every case, are actually just worried about having to go back to work ‘properly’ and are quite enjoying being holed up at home with the radio on every day.

Foolsrule · 29/12/2021 20:27

Schools will be the next major hurdle. Not enough staff to open = no childcare for many = many not at work. Other services start to fail.

Namechanger20183110 · 29/12/2021 20:27

The point above about the people on ventilation actually decreasing is a great point. I monitor these figures every few days and have done so since they started publishing them. It's been stubbornly above 900 for ages. It's starting to come down

People are "less sick" and spending less time in hospital, otherwise this number would be rocketing in proportion.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 29/12/2021 20:28

I think we’ve had enough of these daily figure’s on the news . You want them they are there online you can see deaths , hospital cases and compare. It means nothing saying 100k + have tested positive.

Not if we allow positive but mild or asymptomatic teachers to continue working.
YourVagesty · 29/12/2021 20:30

we don't just need random updates. We're nearly two years in, it's just unnecessary

Fully agree.

noblegiraffe · 29/12/2021 20:30

Not if we allow positive but mild or asymptomatic teachers to continue working.

But that's not the current rule and there's no sign of making it the rule, therefore it's going to be an issue.

Agreed I think they were quite hopeful that we were getting lockdown before Christmas/ after now looking unluckily at all.
Terminallysleepdeprived · 29/12/2021 20:31

What do I want?? Leadership!!

Why? We have been told repeatedly what to do for most of the last 2 years. That hasn't changed.

Get a grip.

2389Champ · 29/12/2021 20:33

In the winter of 2017-2018 there were 43000 people in hospital with flu.
I don’t remember a lot of fuss in the headlines then or discussions about the lack of restrictions.
