Just that really. Who's looking forward to their 4th jab in a few months?? Confused

"I.want the govt to start being much clearer about why we need each one ..is it waning immunity, is it that az was not as good as they thought, is it guess work ?"

The information is out there.

The reasons boosters are needed is a combination of factors.

Immunity to delta was waning after 5 months he anyway.
Omicron is far more infectious and crucially very different to the Wuhan strain used for th jabs so partly escapes the immune system so very high antibody levels are needed to compensate for the current boosters not bring tailored to it. Protection against OmiCron may not last long but most people are all likely to be infected by it before any 2nf boosters are given to it anyway

It may be that boosted individuals have only very mild illness to omicron but this is too uncertain to fully rely on yet

AgentProvocateur · 22/12/2021 03:32

@sofato5miles I think I’m in the same country - UAE? Apparently we can’t get a booster if we’ve had 2 sinopharm and 2 Pfizer. I guess that was our booster.

gofg · 22/12/2021 04:13

I will happily have as many as required.

OliveTree75 · 22/12/2021 04:41
@GreenLunchBox I agree with you. I've had 3 now and I don't think I'll be doing anymore at least for a while, even if there is a different variant tbh.
Same here. I am very reluctant to have any more.

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 05:11

Fine but I need them to tell my employer to count it as covid sickness when I'm off with side effects again

Herhereherhere · 22/12/2021 06:38

I am getting sicker from the side effects after each one. The latest booster had me in bed for 36 hours and then feeling rough for longer. I was far worse than any virus I have had for a long time. I have had it because of Omicron but I would be very wary of another in 6 months. Very jealous of those who don’t get the side effects!

Porcupineintherough · 22/12/2021 06:43

I've tried COVID (twice) and I've been vaccinated/boosted and the vaccine is far preferable imo, so I'm happy to keep having it. Ds2 currently has omicron and it's not looking like a bundle of laughs.

DarknessAndLight · 22/12/2021 06:46

This is madness.
No testing has been done on multiple boosters and we are all supposed to get omicron which will give us natural immunity.

Porcupineintherough · 22/12/2021 06:52

I guess Israel didnt get the memo about The. Way .It. Should. Be. According to @DarknessAndLight.

1910username · 22/12/2021 06:56

I remember a few months ago reading that some labs were working on producing the jab in pill form.

Haven’t heard anything for a while, but it would certainly relieve the burden on the NHS setting up vaccination hubs every few months.

ThirdElephant · 22/12/2021 06:56

Oh, bloody hell. I just had my third yesterday and it's the nastiest vaccination I've ever had. I feel truly rubbish.

DarknessAndLight · 22/12/2021 06:56

No obviously not. Let’s all just cast aside any worries we have and line up dutifully for our boosters to retain our privileges in our be authoritarian world.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 22/12/2021 06:59

Yet another vaccine, I had 1,2 booster and flu and came up in massive lumps under my arms and developed a dairy allergy and an allergy to all of my face creams and makeup.
My GP has confirmed it's due to all these vaccines overloading my system.
I've never been allergic to anything in my life.
Allergies as in hives all over and vomiting any dairy products that pass my lips.

Remmy123 · 22/12/2021 07:01

Why is this necessary.. 3 jabs not enough?? 🙄

nether · 22/12/2021 07:01

The critically vulnerable are getting 4 (3x primary plus the 3month booster)

If they announce a 4th jab for the general population, then presumably that group gets 5 (primary course of 3, 1st and 2nd booster). And the roll out for the critically vulnerable will be an omnishambles again because of overlapping terminology.

CrunchyCarrot · 22/12/2021 07:05

Madness.

TulipsGarden · 22/12/2021 07:05

Fine for me, bring it on. I've felt rough after a couple of my jabs, just an immune response like when you're getting ill and nothing to worry about.

Lena56 · 22/12/2021 07:11

I’m 26, the last one messed up my period for two months, I will get my 3rd booster but going forward I’m not having jab after jab every three months to mess up my period for half of the year.

ItsSnowJokes · 22/12/2021 07:11

I am about to have my 4th vaccine and will be due my 5th in about April (took part in a vaccine trial and now having the nhs course of vaccines). I will do it if it keeps us all safe, and I say that as someone who has had horrible side effects from the vaccines lasting a week at a time. Just what you have to do.

Nidan2Sandan · 22/12/2021 07:11

@Bubblty

This is my issue too.

I never needed time off sick when I had covid (wfh) but I've needed several days with the vaccine. The booster had me stuck in bed for 3 days, I haven't felt that unwell since I had glandular fever in the 90s. I'm not sure I could do it again.

Watapalava · 22/12/2021 07:18

Im not happy but will do it

You do kind of feel forced as theyve already said boosters are needed to travel

The EU is rolling out their 3G/2G rule which means testing isnt acceptable for entry into many countries now inc Spain, Austria etc

Theyre even putting timescales on when you had doses and so also requiring boosters.

Anyone wanting to travel to the EU now pretty much has to have all their vaccinations and boosters. Ive ha all mine and was as ill with my booster as i was with covid! My kids had covid and were fine but will also need to be double vax to enter spain in summer as, again, testing isnt allowed

I can see how OP its frustrating

If I was your age I don't think I would have any more either. Going forward, surely we won't be having a "booster" every 3 months...
Pollymollydolly · 22/12/2021 07:25

I will continue to trust the science. If another booster is advised then I will have it.

DingleyDel · 22/12/2021 07:27

I know this is only for certain groups. I really think once per year for the rest of the population is sufficient. I’ve had natural infection (very mild) and 3 jabs now. After the last I might as well have had norovirus. I don’t feel comfortable with more than 1 course per year.

My other question is with the really rare but serous side effects. Surely the more jabs they give the more cases of these will occur, so they need to be careful about not giving unnecessary jabs? Or is it a case of people who are going to get these things have all had them by the 3rd round?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/12/2021 07:27

I will have it if it's introduced. However, we have to understand the impact on the health service of running mass vaccination programmes. I work in social care, and part of my work is about integrating social care and health. However, a lot of the health service colleagues I work with have been redeployed this week into the booster vaccination programme and so the integration work has been put on hold. That in turn will impact on our strategic decision making. At the same time, operations are being cancelled for the same reason.

I also volunteer at weekends in a vaccination centre. I'm happy to do one or two weekends a month but there's no way I can do more than that on top of a full time job. There are gaps in the volunteer rota for next week because we don't have enough volunteers . If the UK ends up doing boosters every 3 months then there needs to be a proper infrastructure in place to manage this.
