Here's hoping we'll get some answers tonight.
@Maskless cobra meeting, not press conference. We won't know what's said until people start leaking it.
Thank you.

My housemate just walked in and told me with tears in her eyes that her Xmas break from work is completely ruined because we are going into lockdown on 27th Dec for two weeks and all restaurants, pubs, and cafes will be closed and we are not allowed to leave our town. She was teary and upset.

I've been all over the BBC news and also Twitter, which seems to be the place that all news is spread quickly and I found nothing about this.

I told her she's wrong, but she's absolutely insistent that she read it on the BBC but "they've since removed it."

I told her again she's wrong, there is no lockdown announced, but she is absolutely insistent.

it will be about recalling parliament from recess.

and imminent lockdown

Nat6999 · 19/12/2021 19:13

Something is afoot in Scotland at least, ds was due to visit Edinburgh on Tuesday with a friend & they got notified today that they could either get a refund or vouchers for their train tickets. Thankfully they have chosen to postpone their trip until probably Easter next year.

PartyPrawnRingGames · 19/12/2021 19:13

@Maskless there are a lot of rumours about a lockdown, some saying even before Christmas because Sajid Javid refused to say for sure they definitely won't, but nothing confirmed at all yet.

StarCat2020 · 19/12/2021 19:28

Get a booster. . Save Christmas!

BBCONEANDTWO · 19/12/2021 19:57

If you got a booster now it's not effective till 14 days so won't really help with Christmas.

Christmasmorning519 · 19/12/2021 19:59

Probably not the right place to be asking or commenting but I thought a female MP recently made a point of bringing her baby into the House of Commons so hight light the fact MPs do not get maternity leave . But Boris Johnson is am currently taking Paternity leave ? I’m not saying he shouldn’t but are these two fact incompatible or am I’m mistaken regarding maternity leave for MPs ? Happy to be corrected.

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 19:59

Why all the push for boosters then? Makes you wonder !!
the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 19:59

I did read that Boris J isn't taking paternity leave.

Bubblty · 19/12/2021 19:59

It's partly effective before then

NannaMcPhoo · 19/12/2021 20:02

Why all the push for boosters then

Because the alternative is to say "sorry folks we got nothing. Good luck"

Maskless · 19/12/2021 20:04

@the80sweregreat

I did read that Boris J isn't taking paternity leave.
Why would he need paternity leave? The baby will be looked after 24/7 by nannies.
MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2021 20:04

And also boosters increase protection from new variant

It is better than other approaches I reckon

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 20:05

I'm
Having the booster next week , I'm not an anti vaxxer.

They do get maternity/paternity leave but as a democratically elected representative no one is entitled to vote in their absence.
Motorina · 19/12/2021 20:07

Why all the push for boosters then

Cos it gives Boris the chance to say we're worldbeating?

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2021 20:07

Good stuff 80s I didn’t think of you that way tbh Smile
MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2021 20:08

Honestly boosters are the best change we’ve got atm

Everything else is so harmful - lockdowns etc

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2021 20:09

Chance..

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 20:09

Thanks!! I've had the jabs
Was just wondering why the push for boosters if it takes ages to ' kick in ' so to speak
But I know why i need it and can't wait to get it over with !!

RosaMoline · 19/12/2021 20:09

I’m so confused
In the Mail headline - screaming headlines about ‘soaring cases’ and Javid refusing to confirm or deny there will be a Christmas lockdown
Further down the page, another article stating that Omnicron variant is very mild and unlikely to put a strain on the NHS - one yesterday quoting doom monger himself Ferguson saying that this new variant won’t be a problem for the vast majority, and vaccines should give fairly high protection.
So which is it then?!?
