Check here just after 4pm.
PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 19/12/2021 15:34

@RedToothBrush how can they plan a COBRA mtg that far in advance?

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 19/12/2021 15:40

Steve Barclay is chair so won’t make decisions about lockdown.

Cobra isn't just crisis management (easy to think that as it's about the only time anyone talks about them). They can just as easily be planned co-ord meetings.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 19/12/2021 15:49

@meditrina ah, I thought they were only held when the 💩 was hitting the fan. Thanks.

PhilCornwall1 · 19/12/2021 15:50

Don't get too excited. Knowing that lot, it'll be this kind of Cobra meeting.

@PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets thanks for posting that link, it's really interesting.

DGRossetti · 19/12/2021 15:51

Of course "Cobra Meeting" is an anagram of agent microbe

mumda · 19/12/2021 15:51

2-1 lockdown imminent Boxing Day
10-1 lockdown now, do not leave the house, do not pass go, do not collect £100,
50-1 Boris resigning and the country spends the next 2 months being PM'd by a deputy (That's not Gove is it?)

PartyPrawnRingGames · 19/12/2021 15:55

I'm planning a Cobra meeting down the pub on Boxing day if there is a lockdown. We will need to be fully prepared and get everyone round the table and on the same page for the next few weeks.

AnyFucker · 19/12/2021 15:56

They are meeting to drink Indian lager Smile

Eredoor · 19/12/2021 15:57

Deputy is Raab isn't it.

roses2 · 19/12/2021 15:58

Why plan a meeting for a Sunday night for a variant that wasn't on the radar a few weeks ago?

Eredoor · 19/12/2021 16:01

This meeting was probably the pre Christmas one, probably planned about 3 weeks ago for the preplanned update this week

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2021 16:02
@RedToothBrush how can they plan a COBRA mtg that far in advance?
They were going to have a review into the situation which was already concerning them... y'know the '3 week review' and all that.

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2021 16:06

@roses2

Why plan a meeting for a Sunday night for a variant that wasn't on the radar a few weeks ago?
Because the original concerns about omicron were set to be reviewed 'in three weeks time'.

Go google 'three week review omicron'. You will find a few newspaper articles stating that they would review the situation in three weeks, dated ermmm 3 weeks ago!

But yes, they couldn't possibly schedule a meeting 3 weeks in advance.

Laiste · 19/12/2021 16:21

Just clicked on my area (first time i've had a look for months), and hospital admissions due to covid are DOWN 27% in the last week. No deaths, no change.

Red It's still a bit odd to do it on a Sunday evening. Why not Friday afternoon or Monday morning?
They seem to operate on a different planet from most of us. 🤷‍♀️ resigned sigh

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 16:34

I can imagine that the devolved parliaments are putting pressure on Westminster? It's bound to be about money..
I bet a few of them are fed up working on a Sunday though. I agree , they do run a weird schedule. If it wasn't for covid , they would all be off now I suppose?

Blossomtoes · 19/12/2021 16:35

He's due paternity leave. Anyone know if he's taking the full normal amount?

He’s not taking any.

Lollyds · 19/12/2021 16:38

Inner london here, cases up 263%, deaths up 100% (from 2 to 4 though) and admissions up 68%
