Just wondering when people think we should expect to have an announcement on the lockdown rumours?

I am really struggling to process all of the uncertainty at the moment. Trying my best to enjoy Christmas, my favourite time of year, But I just feel like I have no idea what's going on or what to expect!

How long was the post xmas lockdown last year? I can't remember.

A long time!! I'm pretty sure schools went back in March but some sectors weren't properly open until May , I don't think

That's what I thought So posters saying "get it over with", are you thinking three months?

I don't think Parliament has to be sitting but Labour would vote for it I think.

dangerrabbit · 18/12/2021 20:29

I would imagine it would be announced at 8pm on the night before, as usual.

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 20:30

@RoseAndRose

Would a lockdown get through parliament?

Unless Labour is going to step up , then the answer is 'no' - not until it's so blazingly obvious it's needed that it's actually too late.

I can’t see Labour not going for it tbh
DaisyNGO · 18/12/2021 20:30

@Lua

Were people allowed to come back home during lockdown last time?

After 3 years without seeing my family, I finally going this week, and am now terrified!

Which ciuntry?
Ohnowhy2 · 18/12/2021 20:34

We all know some form of lockdown is coming. Reading the news all that is mentioned is a normal Christmas. I think they are prepping us for a lockdown type thing for new year. Predict lasting January onwards.

Can’t do this again. Finally going to s Otis d to see family and friends. Already had to adjust plans for Nicola’s rules. Ahhh

ThettaReddast · 18/12/2021 20:36

I believe the cabinet met today, and COBRA meet tomorrow? If so, I expect we’ll get an announcement Monday or Tuesday evening, with leaks the day before. He’d have to recall Parliament too for anything significant so I can’t see anything being implemented this side of Christmas even if we do know it’s coming.

Remmy123 · 18/12/2021 20:39

If it wasn't for Christmas there would be lockdown now but they are holding off.

Not that i agree with them but it's just so obvious to me it wiii be in January

I remember that too.

We were emailed the day we were due back to school (inset) to say work from home.

Then announcement made that evening and emailed again to say work from home planning online and keyworker provision.

We went back in following week for full KW and vulnerable programme but most came back early March. Ds didn't go back to swimming until April and things opened fully in may.

I assume you’re able to continue working through a lockdown then?
the80sweregreat · 18/12/2021 20:43

I think this is bad, but the press and the government are playing it down because they know people won't comply with rules over Christmas!
Just my opinion though.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 18/12/2021 20:46

Wasn't the plan b supposed to be reviewed this weekend?

Maddymorphosis · 18/12/2021 20:47

Oh great, expect things to be closed until around late March/April thenHmm I work in elderly care and childcare so I am fortunate to still be working, partner is in hospitality and I really hope they will be financially supported

Thewiseoneincognito · 18/12/2021 20:47

@MarshaBradyo

So if numbers don’t go down what then?
I think we should expect this to be until at least February. The ‘manageability’ of high rates of Delta led to a false sense of security, that we could live with it. Omicron is another ball game entirely and could be difficult to control, as soon as the numbers come down they would soon start to go up again.

There is a meeting so maybe it’s that

The problem with this is that BJ is hinting at but won't say because he is a lying hypocrite and Chris Whitty is openly saying limit social contact d
So people are cancelling restaurant bookings and theatre tickets left, right and centre in order to take as few risks as possible to be safe to see family at Xmas. That's completely understandable but where does that leave the leisure, hospitality and entertainment industry? They need to be flat out at Xmas to see them through the quiet months of winter....how will they survive with no customers?

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/12/2021 20:49

Originally when they brought back masks just in shops and public transport, they said they’d review everything in three weeks. Since then they’ve brought in wfh if you can, vaccine passports in some venues and masks in all indoor spaces, so I think the three week review may have gone out the window.

Maddymorphosis · 18/12/2021 20:54

Exactly, what is people don't get about that part!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

PuzzledObserver · 18/12/2021 21:18

Thing is - if there is a lockdown, we will only know about it from the evening before it comes into force, if previous lockdowns are anything to go by.

But if there isn’t, we won’t know, IYSWIM. We will be waiting, wondering….. I suppose until it’s clear that case numbers are heading downwards. Then we would be able to breathe.
