When will there be any clarity on lockdown?

Just wondering when people think we should expect to have an announcement on the lockdown rumours?

I am really struggling to process all of the uncertainty at the moment. Trying my best to enjoy Christmas, my favourite time of year, But I just feel like I have no idea what's going on or what to expect!

Not until after xmas surely ? The gov wouldn’t dare do it before.

Wednesdayafternoon · 18/12/2021 19:11

I was thinking the same but surely with the heavy gossip and rumours going around they can't wait that long before addressing it 😬😬😬

I feel the same. The governments assurances don’t reassure me as they can and have changed their minds so quickly about things.
Would be nice to know if there will be anymore announcements before Christmas at least x

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 18/12/2021 19:12

Surely it’s more of a will there be any clarity on lockdown?

Mummmaa · 18/12/2021 19:12

A local resturant to me has just announced that to keep there staff safe they are closing untill febuary!

PilatesPeach · 18/12/2021 19:15

The Times stated today it was likely to commence on 27th or 28th so surely they need to announce before Xmas - they can't announce on the day or day before. Plenty of us are working on 26th, 27th and 28th who cannot work from home who are likely to be in areas that will be shut down or severely restricted.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/12/2021 19:16

When? A couple of hours before any lockdown starts I imagine.

If they want to bring something in after Christmas and also want people to limit socialising over Christmas they won’t announce it now. People will mix more over Christmas knowing they can’t see people for a while after. We’re seeing my parents from 28th-30th, if they announce a post-Christmas lockdown now, we’ll bring it forward. Which won’t be what they want.

DoubleCheeseForNeville · 18/12/2021 19:19

With leaks like this, surely they'll have to say SOMETHING before the end of the weekend??

'Large family Christmas gatherings are at risk of being banned after Sage warned that an “immediate” curtailment of indoor mixing is needed to combat the spread of omicron.'

I’m more interested in what a lockdown would look like this time around.

We are expecting it to be like last time around, but this time last year we didn’t have vaccination or at home testing (I think - can barely remember) so does that change things?

And would we still have nonsense like people being publicly shamed for going for a socially distanced walk 2 miles outside their local region?

When everyone has bought their turkey

eightmaidsamilking · 18/12/2021 19:21

Sunday night at 8pm I reckon.

Allthepickles · 18/12/2021 19:21

I think after Christmas, I wish they would just say though, it’s clearly coming so some notice would be nice

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 19:21

No idea I get the feeling after is late but before may not happen

kennyshoodedjacket · 18/12/2021 19:23

I'm thinking something will be announced Sunday night. 8pm but maybe 5pm. Things don't look good. It won't affect my Christmas but I feel sorry for everyone else who will have plans ruined. Except my abusive exH and his spaffspanglers.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/12/2021 19:23

Half past five on Christmas Eve. It's a Friday so probably on Twitter.

Exhausteddog · 18/12/2021 19:24

There is definitely a sense of deja vue. I'm pretty sure they made the announcement at around 5pm on the Saturday before Xmas last year.
They will need to re-introduce grants or furlough again if there is any compulsory closure of businesses.

TokyoSushi · 18/12/2021 19:26

I think it's going to be early next week, Monday/Tuesday to start on 27th, when cases go over 100,000 which will likely be very soon, that will crank it up another notch.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/12/2021 19:28

They did, but that was to start almost immediately wasn’t it? For the tier 4 areas, it was in place over Christmas and I think that’s what was announced that Saturday.
PilatesPeach · 18/12/2021 19:28

And it won't just be 2 weeks - it has never been however many weeks they initially stated. Not once.

DigitalGhost · 18/12/2021 19:29

Surely if they announce next week that it starts immediately after Xmas everyone will go wild at Xmas.
Not sure I could cope with banning household mixing again.
I have a 19 month old that hasn't actually lived without some form of restrictions so far Sad

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 18/12/2021 19:29

They've said all along that it'll take a few weeks to be sufficiently sure of the numbers to know if NHS is in danger of being overwhelmed. And probably a couple of weeks to see if the sheer number of cases leads to levels of sick leave that cause disruption to vital services.

No matter how much we might want certainty, we aren't going to get it until 2-4 weeks has passed

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 19:30

So if numbers don’t go down what then?

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 19:31

If they do it that is

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 18/12/2021 19:32

Lockdown will be annouced 2 or 3 weeks after it needs to be done.

Lua · 18/12/2021 19:33

Were people allowed to come back home during lockdown last time?

After 3 years without seeing my family, I finally going this week, and am now terrified!
