When will there be any clarity on lockdown?

Just wondering when people think we should expect to have an announcement on the lockdown rumours?

I am really struggling to process all of the uncertainty at the moment. Trying my best to enjoy Christmas, my favourite time of year, But I just feel like I have no idea what's going on or what to expect!

I'm wondering if people will actually not bother testing this week even if they suspect they might have it...so they don't have to isolate over Xmas?

DockOTheBay · 18/12/2021 19:34

I'm wondering about moving my grandparents meeting from the 28th to sometime this week. If they announce anything this weekend, everyone will do the same. So it would be pointless.

Exhausteddog · 18/12/2021 19:35

They did, but that was to start almost immediately wasn’t it? For the tier 4 areas, it was in place over Christmas and I think that’s what was announced that Saturday.

Yes my friend works in a (non essential) shop and they were told at closing time that they wouldn't be opening again til after Xmas. She was quite shocked.

I think people will still test because they won't want to put vulnerable relatives at risk if they're planning to see them. If I was only seeing low risk adults (who agreed) then I wouldn't be doing any LFTs or similar. I guess the sort of people who wouldn't test with symptoms, for fear of having to isolate, probably wouldn't take the isolation very seriously anyway.

Some people might.

But as people are likely to be visiting family (that could easily include elderly or other vulnerable people), they're much more likely to be testing to establish safety, and not going if positive. It might be an annoying Boris-ism, but no-one does want to kill granny and most people aren't shits

It didn't start immediately, but most areas were in some sort of lockdown anyway - household bubbles indoors only, 2 households outdoors that sort of thing.
This time it would be going from everything allowed, so it would be a big jump.

@SickAndTiredAgain

Yes in tier 4 we got a massive 6 hours notice that we were going into it!!!!!

Depends who they’re seeing I guess.

We’re seeing two sets of DH’s grandparents and will be doing LFTs beforehand when day to day we don’t bother with regular testing. PILs are the same and will be testing just before, as will the grandparents.

Twixxed · 18/12/2021 19:46

I'm struggling with the uncertainty too.
Assuming that previous restrictions are our best indication, we will be given very little notice. I highly doubt that a post Christmas circuit breaker would be confirmed before Christmas.

BluebellsGreenbells · 18/12/2021 19:47

Don’t bother with regular testing? You are part of the problem.

JovialNickname · 18/12/2021 19:51

There has been clarity. There isn't one. No one in any kind of authority has even suggested There will be. Please stop making these sorts of threads that scaremonger and say a lock down is imminent, when it absolutely isn't (unless a vocal minority like you shout enough about it, and cause Boris' highly reactive government to impose one "in response to public pressure")

We test twice a week and I've taken pcrs when I've been a close contact. I would definitely take a lft before we see elderly relatives but I can imagine some people might not if they are not seeing anyone they consider vulnerable.

LookNorthbyNorthWest · 18/12/2021 19:56

Many of us have already placed ourselves in lockdown - we are working from home, cancelling Xmas parties, deciding not to go to the cinema etc. Then there are those who are currently ignoring Omicron.

dancinfeet · 18/12/2021 20:00

They’ll announce it after they have held their Christmas parties at number 10, then again, going by last year, possibly not.

blobby10 · 18/12/2021 20:00

I think they are more likely to follow scotlands Roolz and say no mixing of more than three households but it won’t be lawn it will be ‘personal choice but remember you might be killing granny/threatening the Nhs’ sort of thing. They won’t dare to inflict another lockdown but will employ scaremongering headlines and excessive numbers to make us all panic and put ourselves into self imposed lockdown

itsgettingwierd · 18/12/2021 20:02

@eightmaidsamilking

Sunday night at 8pm I reckon.
I agree an announcement then.

For restrictions to start the Wednesday.

But I think it'll be very light

OrangeCrunch · 18/12/2021 20:04

Another going not so quietly crazy with the uncertainty.

Trying to stay in the festive mood, chatting to parents on the phone about Christmas plans - food, who will bring x game etc, but it's emotionally exhausting when we're in limbo like this.

DaisyNGO · 18/12/2021 20:05

@Mummmaa

A local resturant to me has just announced that to keep there staff safe they are closing untill febuary!
I think that means "we can't make a profit". Sensible choice really.

How long was the post xmas lockdown last year? I can't remember.

OrangeBananaFish · 18/12/2021 20:05

I think there will be an address to the nation tomorrow at 8PM with a press conference on Monday at 5PM about restrictions from 27th/28th

Though in a couple of hours tomorrow's front pages will be released and it will all be there. So breaking news about 10PM tonight. We won't need to watch BJ (unless you are interested which way his hair is facing this week)

I don't understand how my thread is scaremongering? I am literally asking for thoughts on when there will be some clarity, either way, on what's going on. I've never once said a lockdown is happening, just wondering when we will find out.

AshLane · 18/12/2021 20:08

And as if 'Boris' highly reactive government' read MN to find out if they are under pressure from the public. 😀

Kate3150 · 18/12/2021 20:12

@Wednesdayafternoon- you wouldn’t believe this is a discussion group would you? I don’t create threads anymore as I can’t be doing with the hassle lol.

IsadoraQuagmire · 18/12/2021 20:12

If they're going to have a lockdown they should start it on Monday, and get it over with.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/12/2021 20:16

Would a lockdown get through parliament? Or would it not need to if parliament is on Christmas break?
I know Labour generally have called for restrictions sooner than the they’ve been put in, but would they support it if it didn’t come with proper financial support for businesses forced to shut? Boris would presumably need them to at least abstain if Tuesday’s votes on the other restrictions are anything to go by.

RoseAndRose · 18/12/2021 20:20

Would a lockdown get through parliament?

Unless Labour is going to step up , then the answer is 'no' - not until it's so blazingly obvious it's needed that it's actually too late.
