Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

There won't be one. Don't worry x

toomuchlaundry · 18/12/2021 09:49

It will be after Christmas if there is one. Not sure how that would impact your plans

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/12/2021 09:50

There will not be one before Christmas.

Peakedtoosoon · 18/12/2021 09:53

There wont be what we'd recognise as lockdown from last time. Government know there's be no compliance and they couldn't enforce it.

There might be a return to some of the old restrictions like table service

DaisyNGO · 18/12/2021 09:55

Going to have to rearrange all the plans for after Boxing Day. Luckily I am not surprised, but arrangements with sibling families are all then because they thought we were crazy for thinking another lockdown is coming.

Now thinking to arrange my parents for before xmas as they are so stressed and worried it will be prevented. They are in their 80s FFS, when do they get their lives back?

WhenSheWasBad · 18/12/2021 09:55

I’m trying to just let it all wash over me and not stress about it.

All the adults in my family had their 3rd jab over 2 weeks ago. I’m not locking myself away but I’m limiting my socialising.

Really hope the kids can go back to school in January. I hate teaching online and my kids don’t do well learning at home (they love it but it’s not good for my daughters mental health in particular).

I’m just hoping omicron is mild and the poor staff in the NHS aren’t overwhelmed (any more than they currently are).

mowly77 · 18/12/2021 09:59

Thank you for the reassurance! I know all signs point to lockdown after Christmas as very low levels of tolerance & compliance. But I can’t help harken back to last year’s Christmas will not be cancelled … oh it’s cancelled … debacle. Oh well I’ll just try not to think about it & get on with packing fa la la la

I’m not sure a lockdown will have much effect given how quick omicron seems to move. We’ll end up with limited contacts through illness and changes in behaviour anyway the higher cases go. I’m not sure about schools in particular though.

I think at the moment we’re relying on hitting a peak fast and declining at the same rate alongside hoping that this variant is actually milder and boosters take some of the weight. I think we’ll know more around New Years.

OrangeBananaFish · 18/12/2021 10:04

I've started to resign to the fact that my new year getaway will be cancelled again. I'm in 2 minds. Firstly I was really looking forward to going as were the DC's, but the refund I'd get would come in really useful right now.

Can't see anything happening before Christmas. People will still go and visit family anyway. TBH I don't blame them (well I can't cos I'm one of them). Of course depending on where you are flying to might change things. Fingers crossed that you still get to go.

I'm thinking it will be outdoors only for pubs, bars and restaurants with help for those industries. So visiting family will still be allowed.

I must admit I have been wondering this as well.

Australia and New Zealand have never got back to zero covid with their tried and tested method as soon as Delta turned up on their shores.

It Omicron is more transmissible than Delta then really what good will our version of lockdown actually do? Especially if compliance with household mixing is low?

Viviennemary · 18/12/2021 10:06

Not bothered. I'd bd glad of the excuse to not bother with Christmas. But sad for those who actually enjoy it.

StruggleStreet · 18/12/2021 10:07

I’m working on the assumption that it’ll be from Boxing Day and if not it’ll be a nice surprise.
We’d planned to see DH family Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and then go to stay with my family from Boxing Day. Wishing we had planned to see them earlier on, they live far away and we haven’t been able to see much of them at all the past few years so will be gutted to have to miss time with them again.

witsendeverytime · 18/12/2021 10:10

I'm worried - not for me, or my daughter (her school will provide full day online learning if it closes), but my son, who is 18 and lives on his own. He works in a shop and goes to the gym daily, essential for his mental health. He's been having a tough time recently and if things lock down, even for a couple weeks, I worry that will derail him.

User5329806 · 18/12/2021 10:16

27th or 28th has been mentioned, doubt it will be Boxing Day as we haven't been asked to stay local and there won't be much public transport, DS is staying with us and goes back on 27th on train.

I really hope that they take mental health into consideration a lot more this time. Its OK saying go for a walk or a run to boost mental health, but that's not the same for everyone.
VikingOnTheFridge · 18/12/2021 10:21

No, although that's because I can and will be ignoring it. I understand anxiety if you're planning to fly. It's clearly not happening before Christmas, Johnson knows it would finish him and he doesn't have the votes, but it makes sense to be worried about rule changes while you're away.

Cornettoninja · 18/12/2021 11:36

@SpringRainbow I think, from my uneducated pov, is that omicron seems to grow much faster from very few cases. I could see shorter lockdowns but more of them iyswim just to try and control the demand on healthcare but certainly not with aim of getting and keeping numbers low.

ParkheadParadise · 18/12/2021 11:41

No

I've had breakfast with Santa this morning 🎅🎅🎅
I'm now on my way into town to meet my 5 siblings for food and lots of drinks. 🍷🍷🍷
Covid isn't going anywhere.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/12/2021 11:44

I would have thought the circuit breaker would better be now. Another week of socialising and being out and about doing Christmassy stuff and shopping will surely mean the damage is already done? A lot of people will already be brewing it (and potentially spreading it unknowingly) over the coming days.

Katie517 · 18/12/2021 11:55

We are seeing my side of the family Xmas day then traveling to the south west to see in-laws on boxing day and staying until the 29th my plans will not be changing regardless of what Boris and co announce. We are all triple jabbed, my family my rules. Anyone who changes Xmas plans because of this needs to have a word with themselves. Also the media are disgusting for keep pushing articles like this, scaring people based on nothing but speculation.

DaisyNGO · 18/12/2021 11:58

"Anyone who changes Xmas plans because of this needs to have a word with themselves."

Um. I don't wabt to get fined in a lockdown, doesn'tthat seem fair?

Plus Khan't would shut down the Tube, can't go no place without it,

I'm on the vodka. Things seem better. Siblings on Tuedsay now instead of 29th.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 18/12/2021 12:00

Selfishly I'm not worried about a Christmas lockdown. DD is working over Christmas so we were hoping to get together on the 7th January for a weekend of "Christmas" celebrations (decs up, Christmas dinner and other stuff most families will be doing over Christmas). I haven't seen her since early September (clashing of work schedules means we don't get to spend much time together, even in normal times), we were so looking forward to that 1 weekend together. So for those who are agreeing that a circuit breaker, lockdown or restrictions on household gatherings is needed after you have spent Christmas with your family, please remember that, for some of us, it will mean we will not get to see ours at all.

doublemonkey · 18/12/2021 12:11

It wouldn't effect you if there is one OP.

Yup, certainly looks that way.
