Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

SummersInHvar · 18/12/2021 15:09

I don’t think there will be one. I think at the speed they are going for boosters, we will beat it just in time 🤞🤞🤞

Cornettoninja · 18/12/2021 15:13

Is it easy to access home delivery now?

It’ll depend on your area but the majority of supermarket delivery slots by me have been reserved for weeks because of Christmas. We aren’t covered by Deliveroo or anything either.

BlackCatz · 18/12/2021 15:24

think they'll announce a lockdown prior to Christmas meaning we can't meet other households inside for Christmas Day

Not a chance.

As if anyone would take any bit of notice of that. I certainly won't be.

Bagamoyo1 · 18/12/2021 15:28

Like many people, the only aspects of lockdown that I will observe will be the ones I have no control over eg football matches behind closed doors, cafes closed etc. When it comes to travelling in the UK to see family, or meeting with friends, I’m going to do what I like. If I get arrested I will suggest the police adopt the Met approach of doing fuck all. I’ll say it was a work meeting.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/12/2021 15:30

They may do what they wish but as No 10, Fergus, Cummings and Hancock didn’t play by the rules in previous lockdowns I won't be playing by them again.

EmKayEm · 18/12/2021 15:34

The smart money is on an 8pm on Monday pre-recorded piece-to -camera by the failure that is the PM.

'One last push/all in this together/we will beat this in a few weeks/wonderful NHS' etc.

The usual bollocks.

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2021 15:38

I'm not panic buying !
someone mentioned that deliveries may be affected and I want to make sure I have things in. I won't be buying up the entire shop!!

This is the thing. Surely any attempt to prosecute people from breaking restrictions is now unworkable? This is also why I doubt any more restrictions will come in before Christmas. They know many people just won't comply and don't want to push it to that point.

Wheresthebeach · 18/12/2021 15:40

I share your anxiety. Whatever they are going to do, I wish the leaks about plans would stop and they'd just bloody well announce it. Even if its a lockdown after Xmas for 2 weeks.

The constant leaks are exhausting.

tootyfruitypickle · 18/12/2021 15:42

I can't see them actually insisting on restricting socialising , no one would not see their family and friends again. Surely most of us would ignore ?
I can see closing hospitality and entertainment sadly .

containsnuts · 18/12/2021 15:42

I'm really annoyed at the prospect of being locked down all of January/February again because some people won't scale it back over Christmas Angry

ChequerBoard · 18/12/2021 15:43

The Mayor of London has just declared a major incident due to the rapid spread of Omicron in London.

A major incident is any emergency which requires the implementation of special arrangements by one or all of the emergency services, the NHS or the local authority.

It means the emergency services and hospitals cannot guarantee their normal level of response.

Hospital admissions in London are up 28.6% on last week. In the last 24 hours, London had seen the largest number of new cases since the coronavirus pandemic began, more than 26,000.

Staffy1 · 18/12/2021 15:46

Please will people not stock up (hoard unnecessary amounts of) toilet paper and petrol. As has been seen before, it leaves none for the most vulnerable - the elderly who don’t do big supermarket shops and are the last people that need to be trekking round all over the place looking for basic necessities.

This far in and we're still blaming 'people'.

Are you also annoyed at the millions of teachers, retail staff, HCPs, emergency services etc staff who have no choice but to mix with hundreds of people every day? Or are you reserving your ire for families spending Christmas together?

covidhater · 18/12/2021 15:48

@BoredZelda

Government know there's be no compliance and they couldn't enforce it.

Yes, people will still go out to bars, shops and restaurants if they are closed.

No they wiii go around each other's house
User5329806 · 18/12/2021 15:49

Getting an online shop won't be easy, we all queued for those slots weeks ago

You might also find it difficult to access the country you're travelling to, depending on what restrictions their government places on incomers from the UK, which frankly has not got the best record on Covid.

They can fuck off with that. I won’t be complying. Expected to mix with 100s of households everyday. My year group and the one above me closed with an hours notice, no KW provision, no staff, no supply available.

If those are my work risks, I’ll be seeing who I like and I think many will be the same.

duvetdayforeveryone · 18/12/2021 15:59

Netherlands tightens partial lockdown

What an odd thing to say. Surely you know how it works by now.

chloworm · 18/12/2021 16:06

Netherlands probably going into full lockdown tonight. Schools closed.

chloworm · 18/12/2021 16:07

I mean closed after Christmas holidays.

notangelinajolie · 18/12/2021 16:17

I'm hoping for a lockdown announcement.. Our family of 5 different households have a holiday cottage booked from Christmas Eve for 5 nights. Our party has someone aged 83, 2 others who are high risk and young teens who have just broken up for the school holidays. It would be stupid of us to go right now. We have insurance which covers cancellation due to Covid, Government lockdown or restrictions on number of households mixing. Non of those apply right now and we stand to loose a lot of money if we cancel right now.

Love your optimism. Tell you what, I had my booster a couple of days ago and if a bout of Covid is anything like what I've been suffering over the past 24 hours, I'm doing absolutely anything and everything I can to protect myself, my family and our friends from catching this virus. It's not funny, even if you don't land up in ICU or dead.
