Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

They can fuck right off. We lost DH nan last night, she'd been in hospital following a fall. No visitors obviously due to Covid. Despite us all being double jabbed and the majority having boosters. I get why visitors aren't allowed btw but I will never forgive our government for the time we have missed out on over the last 2 years with her, and the fact that in the last week of her life she didn't get to see any family.

Malteser71 · 18/12/2021 14:38

They can only lock you down if you allow it.

I think we all just try to be sensible, then crack on.

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2021 14:39

I am not going crazy, no. The amount of threads about lockdowns and the possibility of lockdowns is crazy though. Could be one long continuing one maybe.
There was plenty of loo rolls in the shops today so no need to panic.

Autumndays123 · 18/12/2021 14:41

@svara do you not remember what happened last year? The brain dead ran to shops to fill up their trolleys and older people and families were left without. I also struggled to find toilet roll for some weeks last year, whilst idiots sat at home in their toilet roll towers.

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 18/12/2021 14:42

@Thewiseoneincognito

Is this another My Family My rules, I’m not locking myself away, will not comply tantrum echo chamber again?
Yup definitely sounds like it

I wouldn't be surprised if some people are still working their way through those towers so no need to panic buy this year.

XenoBitch · 18/12/2021 14:44

I can't do it again, I really can't. Yes, stop me going to things that are not open anyway but I will not stop seeing my friend and family.
Also think it would be utter madness to lock people down mid way through xmas.

Lacedwithgrace · 18/12/2021 14:47

I've got everything we need in for Christmas, anything else can wait. Vulnerable friends and family always have extra supplies because they're shielding. Couldn't care less about people whinging about wanting their freedom

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 18/12/2021 14:47

No not really. I honestly couldn't give two hoots if we go into lockdown again or not.

Svara · 18/12/2021 14:48

It happened to me. I was working throughout and the furloughed and wfh took it all. I'm talking about preparing when there is plenty, not when the shelves are half empty, so I am not left in that situation again.

That is horrible.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

I thought we could measure the success of Nabarro’s message against this.
MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 14:50

@LemonCake79

According to The Telegraph they are discussing reducing the isolation period to 7 days, not a circuit breaker. They are usually very reliable with their Covid news.
Now this I can take
BlackCatz · 18/12/2021 14:50

Yup definitely sounds like it

Good for them.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 18/12/2021 14:51

D0 you honestly think it is extreme to have a few weeks of food and other supplies in? I would think it pretty sensible to have enough to get through a period of isolation at least.*

Your in isolation for 10 days that’s a week and half why would you need weeks of food ? I’ve isolated several times amazing invention called online shopping and people will provide food if necessary . I’m sure there is the odd person who has little people to ask for help plus unable to get a online shop but I don’t think it’s necessary for the majority to get weeks of shopping in , so yes that’s extreme .

julieca · 18/12/2021 14:56

One thing I discovered before the first lockdown, was the amount of people who only have one or two days worth of food in the house. And the people berating those buying more tended to always say they had at least a few weeks worth of food in the house if not more.
@gettingolderandgrumpy often people with low supplies of food would struggle to meet minimum orders for online delivery or are on a budget and need to go to shops that don't deliver, or multiple shops.

neveradullmoment99 · 18/12/2021 14:57

Well there is reports that according to SAGE, after Christmas will be too late.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 18/12/2021 14:58

4 out of 5 of us in the house have Covid at the moment. We all tested positive on Monday, 3 of us vaccinated and 2 not. We've all had exactly the same degree of symptoms - and frankly after spending 18 months being told how likely that 3 of us were to die from Covid (we were all on the vulnerable list the 1st time round), I'm fuming. We've all said that it's no different to any other winter virus, and we've all managed with the occasional paracetamol. LFT's are now negative for all yet we've all got nearly another week in isolation.

The media scaremongering around this virus is inexcusable.

julieca · 18/12/2021 14:58

@gettingolderandgrumpy and before the first lockdown the government advised us to have enough food in to be able to isolate.
I have people who would buy me milk or bread. But asking someone to do a full shop is a big ask.

waterlego · 18/12/2021 14:58

I’m not too worried at the moment, but I’m lucky that my plans are all local and fairly small-scale with close family, and it sounds as though any restrictions will be fairly ‘light’. I feel for anyone planning to travel, get married etc as it must be worrying. I hope your plans can go ahead as anticipated.

I’m in West Sussex and it is absolutely rife here at the moment. Three of my neighbours (all living within 200m of my house) are currently isolating with the virus. None of them have mixed with each other lately so they’ve each brought it back from workplaces etc. Every day on my FB, at least one person is announcing they have it and are isolating (many of these local). I’d be amazed if I don’t get it really but I’m being careful nonetheless so as not to derail Xmas and Boxing Day by having to isolate.

julieca · 18/12/2021 14:59

@SpanielsAreMyLife presumably you have had 2 vaccinations and a booster?
I have and am ecv and it certainly was not like a cold for me.

BoredZelda · 18/12/2021 15:04

Government know there's be no compliance and they couldn't enforce it.

Yes, people will still go out to bars, shops and restaurants if they are closed.

BoredZelda · 18/12/2021 15:05

The media scaremongering around this virus is inexcusable.

I know. Telling us how many people have died is so misleading.

Franca123 · 18/12/2021 15:08

I think they'll announce a lockdown prior to Christmas meaning we can't meet other households inside for Christmas Day. They can't wait until the 27th or 28th because of all the travelling, it'll cause chaos plus the damage will have been done. They'll need to tell people before people start travelling for Christmas. I suspect tomorrow. Currently we're playing chicken because of the lack of data. But indications aren't good. If we go ahead with Christmas and Omricon is as bad a feared , the NHS will be buggered and people will die. I'm glad it's not my decision to make.

Svara · 18/12/2021 15:09

I said a few weeks, a small number of weeks. If you have a children who are not old enough to be left home then isolation could easily be two weeks or more if more than one of you is positive. Is it easy to access home delivery now? It was very difficult last year at the start so many may still be planning based on that.
