Are we going to get ill?

That video 😨

I'm a bit confused, OP. Is this video the first you've heard of the seriousness of the situation despite Omicron being the main topic of news and conversation for about 2 weeks?

I'm not staying in, no, but I have had 3 jabs and I have to go to work next week (on holiday this week). However I'm not going to be jamming myself into pubs for a festive pint any time soon. The message is to minimise contacts.

Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2021 21:08

I won't be staying in, I have to go to work. I get a whole two days off at Christmas.
This also needs moving to the CV topic.

OverByYer · 15/12/2021 21:10

I thought it was an irresponsible and lacking in facts.

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 21:10

Wooosh

I thought he did a good job

CarolineMumsnet · 15/12/2021 21:11

We think this one fits better on the coronavirus board - we're going to move it there now. Flowers

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/12/2021 21:12

He’s not angry. He’s very worried and it’s his job to say so.

Mark looked like a man with nice Christmas plans he’s not keen to cancel.

Whatisthisworld · 15/12/2021 21:13

@ToykotoLosAngeles Of course not, but I’ve not seen it expressed in this way before

OP posts:
Luckymummytoone · 15/12/2021 21:15

I don’t know what they expect when no one is isolating after contact/living with positive cases and going out still really! Not that I disagree with it and I’m glad we don’t have to. It’s bound to spread more!

DaisyNGO · 15/12/2021 21:17

OP are you very young?

I prefer the Chris Whitty approach but everyone speaks differently and this chap isn't even that forceful.

Anne bless..I like Mark.

DoncasterHombre · 15/12/2021 21:17

He's a friend of Herbert The Pervert.

Amisillyornot · 15/12/2021 21:18

Senior manager for a CCG here..we are worried about this variant. What many people are getting confused about is that it's 'mild', therefore nothing to worry about. The biggest problem with this variant is the rate at which it spreads..which means a very high number of people will be infected which puts very high pressure on health services and other key services. No beds in hsp, lack of staff in key services such as supermarkets, transportation etc....so yes it is serious.

CrocodilesCry · 15/12/2021 21:19

He was really really clear and not shouty or scary at all.

OYeMuppets · 15/12/2021 21:20

Goodness, he sounds bit deranged. Who speaks like? "Practice. Superb. Hygiene. It. Is. Vital. Grin Grin Some self important muppet. Let's just get some fear mongering on TV and scare everyone to lock themselves down.

ColourMeExhausted · 15/12/2021 21:21

Just watched it, idiot that I am. The bit where he saying 'in three weeks it will BE 300 TIMES WORSE!!' I had to stop watching. He's not scaremongering though. Think we need someone being this full on to get it through to everyone how serious this is.

ColourMeExhausted · 15/12/2021 21:22

Although yeah...we're a bit past hoping 'Superb. Hygiene' will save us now!

OYeMuppets · 15/12/2021 21:22

What is the meaning of his brooch?

HighlandCowbag · 15/12/2021 21:23

I think it is gloomy but probably realistic.

Forget about the double or triple vaccinated, how many are still completely unvaccinated? If its spreading that quickly even if only they got it and 10% needed hospitalisation we are pretty fucked.

Badabingbadabum · 15/12/2021 21:24
news.sky.com/video/covid-19-an-emergency-situation-for-the-nhs-says-dr-david-nabarro-of-the-who-12496638
"Of The Who"!! Not sure he's a real doctor Grin

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 21:24

He did say serious a lot

I didn’t mind the approach as I think it will be extremely fast and numbers will be very high, and if people are forewarned then ok

The proof is in the loo roll

Envoitrevisage · 15/12/2021 21:24

Well I agree @Whatisthisworld I found it a scary video and now feel quite anxious all over again.

OYeMuppets · 15/12/2021 21:24

Brilliant dystopian xBox add following his interview, well that got my adrenalin up nicely.

mustlovegin · 15/12/2021 21:25

Does the WHO have our best interests at heart?

You should know this by now OP.

User9529057 · 15/12/2021 21:26

Typical stuff that is on the news, get your booster. Expect to see lots of this sort of interview

LaurieFairyCake · 15/12/2021 21:27

My favourite Whitty line was said tonight

"We don't know everything but everything we do know is bad"

That Nabarro bloke is quite right. I actually teared up at the end when he said "everything he'd done as a public health doctor for the last 45 years was for people to live, love and go out and enjoy life" - he said it was an incredibly serious threat to public health systems

Again, we're fucked Sad

BritWifeInUSA · 15/12/2021 21:27

Ah yes, “it will overwhelm the NHS”- that old chestnut. Because that’s never happened before, has it?

History repeating itself. “There’s an emergency! But I have all the answers as to how to deal with it. Just do as I say and we will overcome the emergency!”. So take the third vaccine because the first two didn’t work?
