He's new to me his message couldn't have been clearer though.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:38

Dr Navarro was bleaker than Nicola Sturgeon last Friday and that is saying something
Compared to Boris Johnson ' get a booster and it'll be fine' stance ( I still maintain that yesterday's vote has spooked him )
The Tories will win north shropshire ,tonight and people will get a jab. The tories always get out of things somehow !

Gruffaloonrepeat · 15/12/2021 19:41

Omg that clip is scary, so intense

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:44

Yep, herd immunity is back ( with a vaccine)
The logistics of people being off sick all at once isn't being addressed , but hey ho ! Let's hope for the best ! . 😐

WoodenReindeer · 15/12/2021 19:44

Wow he is worried isnt he.

Whats the answer though? Lockdown wouldnt stop it ....

colouringindoors · 15/12/2021 19:45

Just watched the Nabarro clip. I found it seriously scary. Supposed to be doing a fair bit of driving over the next week and I don't even want to do that now just in case... Feel so sorry for our NHS staff.

colouringindoors · 15/12/2021 19:46

Johnson doesn't care though does he? He literally said "Let the bodies pile high". We have the worst PM in recent history to be guiding us through a pandemic.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:49

He may be a liar and not care, but they are pulling out the stops on this booster programme
I may hate them all , but it's working at the moment. I really hope it continues well and they can keep up with demand
I just hope it works and lockdown isn't on the cards , nobody wants it !!

seconddayout · 15/12/2021 19:53

@colouringindoors I think the worst Prime Minister ever.

vera99 · 15/12/2021 19:56

Whitty's words from the presser

It can be used to buy you time. Last winter the lockdown allowed the rollout of vaccines.

With more than 80% of the most vulnerable boosted the benefits of a lockdown are much lower this time.

The costs are the same, perhaps greater considering what people have endured so far in terms of the harm to jobs, mental health and education.

What would change the equation significantly is if the NHS is going to be overwhelmed, which would deny people basic life-saving care.

Clearly the NHS is struggling, doctors are pointing out care is suffering, but the situation is very different from last winter when over a third of beds were occupied by Covid patients.

Will that happen again? The modelling released so far is unclear as there is so much uncertainty.

Hospital cases could peak at half the level of last winter, or approaching double the level seen.

ancientgran · 15/12/2021 20:07

I've watched Dr Nabarro a fair few times, including in previous lockdowns, I've never seen him as serious as that. Very scary but it is a warning about what might happen and we need to listen.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 20:12

The anti everything brigade will maintain that WHO have an agenda and it's all hot air!
I was scared by his predictions , but then I have a bit of faith in the booster programme working
We will have to see , but it seems that ' carry on ' is the message for now.

worriedatthemoment · 15/12/2021 20:21

Earlier on our local news it said out local hospitals had something like100 patients they could release but nowhere for them to go, beds that could be used by people are ill
We really need a overhaul of the nhs
Its pointless them bringing in lockdowns if the vast majority won't comply which is what most friends and family I know are all saying

worriedatthemoment · 15/12/2021 20:25

@the80sweregreat weren't the who saying something else the other day and telling us we shouldn't of put countries on the red list

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 20:30

That Dr is a bit frightening

crymeapuddle · 15/12/2021 20:31

@colouringindoors

Johnson doesn't care though does he? He literally said "Let the bodies pile high". We have the worst PM in recent history to be guiding us through a pandemic.
Who would you rather did it?
MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 20:31

@worriedatthemoment

overhaul of the nhs? because of bed blockers?
they need to go somewhere - it is the care sector that is causing this surely?

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 20:31

It's all mixed messages again .. to be honest , it does become difficult to try and make sense of most of it !

julieca · 15/12/2021 20:31

Many care homes are refusing to accept new residents because they cant get the staff.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 20:32

then I was directed to John Campbell,
who pointed out, quite sensibly, that people will be isolating, unable to go to work, services will suffer

OrangeCrunch · 15/12/2021 20:32

I'm also confused. This sharp increase in cases was predicted and we were still told not to panic, but when it actually happens, there's a massive gear change and it's sounding like doomsday!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 20:33

that's right @julieca, and care homes dont want to risk having potential covid positive patients thrust on them again!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 20:33

we mustn't panic because there will be no furlough, the hospitality sector needs the parties

Tanith · 15/12/2021 20:41

"Those people who would be managing it at home, would still not be at work, which is the point:

Shelf stackers
Lorry drivers
Nurses
Doctors"

You can add Childcare to that list, echt. One nursery and three childminders in our town closed at the start of this week. It's already causing problems for parents.

julieca · 15/12/2021 20:48

My local primary school closed on Monday. Cases here are rampant.
