@screwcovid

We need to say we just have to take this and not dwell.

It’s hard but not as hard a living in a developing country

We need back bone , to call our friends to check on old people, to where masks and so forth.

We don’t have bombs dropping so we can do it.

Get boosters and do our bit for the community and wake up alive tomorrow!

Unsure33 · 15/12/2021 18:25

I am hearing today of people work colleagues being pinged and going down with covid like never before.

Time will tell if they will be seriously ill. I hope not.

This thread shows as per usual about lockdown and restrictions. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t . And if lots of you want to mix just to make a political point and act like lemmings best of luck to you .

There are millions of people of all ages with underlying health problems who will be affected by this and I really feel for them for them .

The virus I am sure did not know Christmas was about to happen .

thedarkling · 15/12/2021 18:25

@WoodenReindeer

We should do some sort of mumsnet christmas card/thankyou card for Chris Witty. He really is amazing.
Agree!

There has been a lot of analysis
Based on what is reported on death certificates
Including primary cause , compounding causes , with vs of

It's in the ONS regular reports

Basically majority of excess deaths are covid
Sone types of deaths have declined
The expectations are that cancer deaths may rise in coming years

Overwhelmed hospitals and exhausted staff cause that. So if hospitals are full of covid patients, all death rates can rise . Despite that most excess deaths are covid

(yes some people have died who might not have and that is horrible , but denying that covid is the primary cause of most excess deaths and an indirect cause of the rest will not make things better
Agreed and you only have to look at the figures for other countries as well to prove that .

Candyss · 15/12/2021 18:26

@CoffeeMuggins that's a bullshit way to live

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 18:28

I survived Covid, but it was awful and I didn't have it that bad and after day 3 I felt better. It was still debilitating though.
I'm then I'm not an exhausted nurse or doctor or NHS worker , add on stress and I might have been a lot worse of course plus viral overload , which I've not heard being mentioned that much.
However, the government are trying to avoid a lockdown at any cost and this is the way forwards at the moment
The WHO doctor on sky just now was much more pessimistic!

Artichokeleaves · 15/12/2021 18:31

This will go the way it always goes with Johnson.

Basically "Its fine, it's fine, it's fine, it's fine, it's.... shit, shit, shit, reverse! Lockdown!"

At which point he's let it get far out of hand enough that big action is needed instead of brief action.

CoffeeMuggins · 15/12/2021 18:32
@CoffeeMuggins that's a bullshit way to live
Ok? Unfortunately, I have no control over what the government does. I don't much like people dying though.

PestoSugarPlumFairy · 15/12/2021 18:33

@Akire

Apparently a third of all Londoners have not had a single jab. That massive pressure on hospitals when this Kicks off. That’s only the ones who are on system and can be counted so you can probable add least another million on top.

And they've probably already had covid, living in such close proximity to others, so they'll have antibodies so it's all good isn't it.

Candyss · 15/12/2021 18:33

@CoffeeMuggins I'm not sure why you're being bitchy lol - I asked a genuine question, no i dont love the idea of people dying either but i also dont love the idea of living a life where we get locked down/restrictions every winter and peoples mental health and livelihoods plummet because that is a real issue too

@the80sweregreat

Navarro and Sturgeon are very gloomy Our PM ? We can fight it ! .. mixed messages ? Or just trying to win a by election?

Totally mixed messages.

Jenny Harries has said omicron is likely the biggest threat of covid pandemic so far.

We have heard that omicron is doubling in under two days and marks significant threat.

Christ Whitty has said omicron will cause a significant and sharp increase in hospital admissions.

But on the other hand we are being encouraged to continue as normal. Boris specifically said not to cancel parties or nativities. The mixing in schools is still happening, people are attending parties, theatres, cinemas and events... and will continue to do so unless they are told to stop Confused

Tanith · 15/12/2021 18:37

If they leave it "up to you", they're opening us all up to infection, regardless of whether we are following the rules or not.

They're not saying "It's up to you", they're shrugging their shoulders and saying "Not our responsibility!"

LiteralLateral · 15/12/2021 18:37

I am hearing today of people work colleagues being pinged and going down with covid like never before.

Same! I've heard of 5 separate cases testing positive today.

unim · 15/12/2021 18:37

@the80sweregreat

People are not getting any jabs because they think they will be poisoned, lose their natural immunity , it's all a hoax , it's all about the money , the scientists are telling lies, they hate governments, they hate Johnson , they don't agree with masks or restrictions they want it all to just go away. Just from a few people I know ..
Sounds like you know the 10% then. Good luck to them!
MumbleCrumbs · 15/12/2021 18:38

Can anyone tell me what Dr Navarro said on sky news please?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/12/2021 18:40

There are all those fuckers not wearing masks on the busses. The tube is better, but no one bothers on the bus.

Idiots.

CoffeeMuggins · 15/12/2021 18:41

Don't think I was being bitchy.

What would you like to happen? They can go two ways. Let it do it's thing and who ever is left standing, is left standing. Sort of like a party game.
Or, we can restrict ourselves, try and preserve life and more importantly, the NHS.

The government isn't in control of what the virus is doing like many somehow seem to think, but only of what they choose to do with what we are handed.

fatmincepiesandcheese · 15/12/2021 18:42

@MumbleCrumbs

Can anyone tell me what Dr Navarro said on sky news please?
I'd like to know too
PestoSugarPlumFairy · 15/12/2021 18:43

Do you think maybe people are calling into work/school to say they are isolating because they don't want to risk catching anything before Christmas?

toomuchlaundry · 15/12/2021 18:43

@PestoSugarPlumFairy did you see the graph where they showed the number of people in hospital split between those vaccinated and unvaccinated, it wasn't looking good for those who hadn't had the vaccines

Guacamole001 · 15/12/2021 18:45

Dr Navarro stressed the seriousness of this new variant and hygiene must be very diligent including wiping services plus avoid all non essential mixing. He made the matter sound nearly as serious as the beginning of covid ....

Candyss · 15/12/2021 18:46

@CoffeeMuggins I just dont see how restrictions are sustainable forever. it's insane. people wont abide by restrictions for the rest of their lives - it will get to a point where they will take their chances.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 18:51

It's become a game of two different opinions ;
Lockdown to avoid the NHS failing and listen to Dr Navarro ( WHO) Nicola Sturgeon , Chris Whitty etc
Carry on as normal : Boris Johnson

Pick a side.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 18:53

Being responsible for yourself is part of the conservative manifesto' no such thing as society '
.. they have ramped up this mantra today , maybe Boris J is running scared of the 100 rebels ??
