Supposing you were a naturally risk averse, conformist sort of person who believes the people with gravitas and expertise like Nabarro and Whitty? Inevitably, you are vaxxed, boosted, hand washed and masked - and you could WFH, were not subject to mental health issues from isolation and would rather not find out whether you are a person who'd pull the short straw and get a tricky experience with covid - so your conclusion is that it's best to avoid getting the sodding thing in the first place.
How long would you have to hole up for to guarantee missing the worst of this? Another 2 years? More?
I am one of those.
Am on the low end of vulnerable because of health, Overweight, older, self employed.
Masked, vaxxed, soon to be boosted, hand washed and as isolated as I can possibly be. My conclusion is not to avoid getting it but to be as well protected against as possible when I do get it. I'd like not to, I am working towards ot getting it. But I am not invincible and am working towards being best prtected against it.
And given that repeat infections are possible I will continue to take whatever precautions are recommended for as long as is necessary, both now in a pandemic and later, when it has become endemic. I don't see that wearing a mask, having a yearly booster, social distancing in shops etc is too much to do, especially as they will be necessary mostly during winter months.
And if the mooted oral therapeutics become a reality, then I will take those too.
Nothing you can say about that will make any difference to me. I don't find the precautions particularly onerous. I don't feel it is worth making fuss about them, my mental health is worth more to me than a protest against some common sense steps to help protect myself and others.
