What is BJ meant to do. Like so many people have said on here, they won't lockdown or stick by the rules if they enforce, yet if we don't and the NHS becomes overwhelmed then it will be his fault for not locking down. Got knows how this will pan out.

You have put this wonderfully well! .. what would any of us do ? I'm Glad I'm not in charge.
worriedatthemoment · 15/12/2021 21:21

@MrsLargeEmbodied yes as the nhs also needs a overhaul along with the care sector
Its all interlinked when all said and done

NMC2022 · 15/12/2021 21:22

It doesn't help when you have people like the one I've just seen on FB
"A medical professional said watch nasal cancer cases rise with all these swabs"
Lots of mmm yes I thought that too underneath in the comments

I mean I get some people are worried about the vaccine but seriously.. nasal cancer is the new concern?! Grin

CoffeeMuggins · 15/12/2021 21:23

Well, having watched Dr. Nabarro I am well and truly scared. Fuck me.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 21:28

The anti everything people won't be scared by him ., they are the ones who are right ! ..
In fact, it might make things worse.

GreenLunchBox · 15/12/2021 21:31

I have a friend who's husband has needed heart valve surgery and he can't have it as he has to test before it. He won't test because the swabs cause cancer. Neither of them have had a vaccination either.

Think we all are! Especially as the video ended with a life insurance advert!!
tigerbear · 15/12/2021 21:50

@CoffeeMuggins same! Truly horrified!

CoffeeMuggins · 15/12/2021 21:53

See this is smart. If I owned a life insurance company, that's the time I would pay to have my advert shown!

GreenLunchBox · 15/12/2021 22:16

@colouringindoors

Johnson doesn't care though does he? He literally said "Let the bodies pile high". We have the worst PM in recent history to be guiding us through a pandemic.
Just in recent history?Confused
screwcovid · 15/12/2021 22:21

@MrsLargeEmbodied

we mustn't panic because there will be no furlough, the hospitality sector needs the parties
Their 2nd Christmas being cancelled most used their savings most won't survive

@julieca

Many care homes are refusing to accept new residents because they cant get the staff.
The one in my village closed last month due to lack of staff. Unable to recruit.
julieca · 15/12/2021 23:30

@CovidCorvid that is very sad for the residents who were living there.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/12/2021 01:13

Supposing you were a naturally risk averse, conformist sort of person who believes the people with gravitas and expertise like Nabarro and Whitty? Inevitably, you are vaxxed, boosted, hand washed and masked - and you could WFH, were not subject to mental health issues from isolation and would rather not find out whether you are a person who'd pull the short straw and get a tricky experience with covid - so your conclusion is that it's best to avoid getting the sodding thing in the first place.

How long would you have to hole up for to guarantee missing the worst of this? Another 2 years? More?

User9529057 · 16/12/2021 06:10

Carry on working in busy supermarkets, schools, pubs etc. also shop til you drop but sit on your own Christmas Day is the message

User9529057 · 16/12/2021 06:30

Rishi has popped off to California on an official visit so I doubt furlough is on his mind

For me, who is very risk averse, it’s more to do with not wanting to get ill at this moment when the NHS could be about to be overwhelmed. So I will do everything you’ve described in your first para, until thinks ease up a bit. Which will probably be about February.

I am one of those.

Am on the low end of vulnerable because of health, Overweight, older, self employed.

Masked, vaxxed, soon to be boosted, hand washed and as isolated as I can possibly be. My conclusion is not to avoid getting it but to be as well protected against as possible when I do get it. I'd like not to, I am working towards ot getting it. But I am not invincible and am working towards being best prtected against it.

And given that repeat infections are possible I will continue to take whatever precautions are recommended for as long as is necessary, both now in a pandemic and later, when it has become endemic. I don't see that wearing a mask, having a yearly booster, social distancing in shops etc is too much to do, especially as they will be necessary mostly during winter months.

And if the mooted oral therapeutics become a reality, then I will take those too.

Nothing you can say about that will make any difference to me. I don't find the precautions particularly onerous. I don't feel it is worth making fuss about them, my mental health is worth more to me than a protest against some common sense steps to help protect myself and others.

SloeFox · 16/12/2021 12:46

I am risk averse. In this not my normal life though. Triple jabbed. But with chronic asthma (and have spent enough time in hospitals fighting off asthma attacks to know that struggling for breath is terrifying) and with an immujno compromised child who also has asthma and who is too young to be jabbed.

My parents are in New Zealand and have both had cancer in the past year. I would like to be able to see them again. I am happy to be as risk averse as I possibly can be. My life matters to me. My child's life matters to me. I am on the cusp of accepting I may not see my parents before they die. I hate the restrictions of course but I am happy to try and take care of everything I CAN control (masks, etc) in the hope that things will eventually get better.

But the whole thing is deeply depressing.

julieca · 16/12/2021 13:45

I suspect I am like a lot of people. Not totally risk-averse, so happy to do things whén cases are low, and holding back when they get very high.
There seems pressure for either people to say they will do anything they want to, or nothing. There is a middle way.

SloeFox · 16/12/2021 13:53

I think you are right @julieca
