Dr Nabbaro

Saucery · 15/12/2021 18:55

If you don’t, or can’t, protect yourself from Covid then you’re on your own with the healthcare lottery. That’s where the Conservatives are now.

MumbleCrumbs · 15/12/2021 18:57

Thanks!

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 18:57

Rushi sunak warned parliament about the spiraling cost of the boosters
He didn't mention the cost of test and trace or ppe contracts for Hancock's pub landlord friend or any number of millions wasted on other thing of course

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 19:03

@the80sweregreat

It's become a game of two different opinions ; Lockdown to avoid the NHS failing and listen to Dr Navarro ( WHO) Nicola Sturgeon , Chris Whitty etc Carry on as normal : Boris Johnson

Pick a side.

Lockdowns are incredibly harmful though

I hope we avoid it very much

bordermidgebite · 15/12/2021 19:03
@CoffeeMuggins I just dont see how restrictions are sustainable forever. it's insane. people wont abide by restrictions for the rest of their lives - it will get to a point where they will take their chances.
It's this hyperbole that isn't useful

Pandemics last typically 2 to 5 years

That hasn't changed

Snd things are much better than they were

vera99 · 15/12/2021 19:04

That Dr Nabbaro video is the most depressing thing I have seen all year.

Zotter · 15/12/2021 19:06

Listening to Dr Nabarro stresses to me the risk is our NHS being overwhelmed due to omicron being highly infectious even if turns out to be milder and more and more double vaccinated and booster.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:07

Oh I want to avoid a lockdown ! Trouble is how ? This new variant seems to be in charge !

Akire · 15/12/2021 19:08

I managed half the video and had give up. When do the number stop doubling? At this rate by Xmas day the entire 66 million will have had it or sick with it. I mean at least it be hellish 3 weeks then over done with?

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:09

Maybe Akire , if it runs rampant but people stay out of hospital and can use home remedies and so on, it might not be as bad ?
It all depends on how people are able to manage it I suppose

This and also how long would we be stuck in lockdown spreading it out slowly as an alternative
echt · 15/12/2021 19:11

@vera99

Dr Nabbaro

The comments below that clip!!!

Minimising, saying Nabarro had a profit to make, saying he was angry, etc.

Those people who would be managing it at home, would still not be at work, which is the point:

Shelf stackers
Lorry drivers
Nurses
Doctors

Candyss · 15/12/2021 19:13

@bordermidgebite I was responding to the poster who essentially said having restrictions in the winter was how we were going to be living alongside it for the foreseeable

Cornettoninja · 15/12/2021 19:14

I suppose it depends on factors that are currently not known, three weeks with the potential to reduce every workplace to skeleton staff (being optimistic) at various points has a huge knock on effect. At that point you’re not just talking about the collapse of the NHS but of our entire infrastructure.

I personally think that’s unlikely given we’ve seen corona peak and fall on its own in Japan and India without really understanding why and there are hints a similar pattern is emerging in South Africa (though the data isn’t as clear). But a high level disaster scenario doesn’t just include hospitals.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:15

Yep, I didn't hear Boris Johnson mention the pesky 10 day isolation thing ? Or did he ?
Could they make it five days?
It's a sticking point.

Akire · 15/12/2021 19:20

That seems to plan A though let it rip and hope for best. If we reach point no food in shops or power plants working it’s to bloody late to do anything. Sigh I’m glad I’m not running country.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:22

Even the sky news reporter after the presser was a bit ' wtf ' about B J and his upbeat ' we can save Christmas' appeal !!
I think the 100 rebels have put the wind up him '!
Blame the public , Boris!

I love him when he's on the Kay Burley show on Sky. Bit of flirting going on. He seems lovely and always talks about his new grandchildren.
RestingMurderousFace · 15/12/2021 19:27

@WoodenReindeer

We should do some sort of mumsnet christmas card/thankyou card for Chris Witty. He really is amazing.
Love this idea!
Guacamole001 · 15/12/2021 19:28

The variant is bound to stop doubling after a while. We have had peaks and troughs in case numbers before.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 15/12/2021 19:31

All that money spent on "Red lists", "genome sequencing", "world-class vaccination rate", "PCR tests", "LFD tests", "Track and Trace", "Mask Mandates".

All those lost businesses and mental health problems, lost education days with schools closed. All that bull-st from "3 weeks to flatten the curve" to lockdown, to getting our "irreversible freedoms" back.

The Danish and South African data is showing that natural immunity is better than our, waning, vaccinations. Basically it looks like it was a big waste of time and effort - we are now back to letting people get infected naturally and hoping for the best.

seconddayout · 15/12/2021 19:31

This was a plea to get your booster or get vaccinated. A few sensible comments from Chris Whitty (prioritise who you meet with), and the usual clueless rubbish from Boris Johnson.

Other than the vaccination plea, it seemed to be more about having a press conference to say something, and possibly with an eye to tomorrow's by-election.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:31

Either Boris Johnson doesn't care or his just putting his crossed fingers behind his back and praying that the boosters work and it'll be ok!
