Will London be locked down before Christmas?

Could Londoners be locked down again this Christmas? How likely do people think this is? I’m dreading having to spend another Christmas without my family and am considering leaving early to avoid another lockdown.

I thought the tinned tomatoes on toilet roll were a giveaway... Sorry, I forgot that tongue in cheek doesn't translate so well online!

fluffiphlox · 13/12/2021 23:10

I’m betting on a January circuit breaker nationwide

julieca · 13/12/2021 23:11

I am so worried about this. We are supposed to be spending Xmas with extended family including my vulnerable dad. But I am worried this is too risky and we should just stay at home. This means it will be ages till I see him again - lives a long way away in the UK.
I just don't know what to do.
I also keep wondering if there will be a last-minute lockdown. I think I need to get something in the freezer, just in case.

Jourdain11 · 13/12/2021 23:11

@Sparklingbrook

Oh do people think *@Jourdain11* was being serious? Grin Surely not.
I'll let you into a secret... Boris Johnson didn't appear to me as a vision in the night either. (Thank God...)
Quartz2208 · 13/12/2021 23:17

A January circuit break would be shutting the stable door once the horse has bolted!

If it has a doubling rate of 2 days this is going to be fairly brutal and quick. Because presumably omicron infection gives you immunity to omicron

whynotwhatknot · 13/12/2021 23:26

i dont care of there is im not missing seeing my family for another xmas-call me selfish ive made my decision

HolidayTime2021 · 13/12/2021 23:27

@BritinDelco

I left yesterday sp as not to risk it and know of others doing the same
Is that a piss take?
WrongWayApricot · 13/12/2021 23:40

Hope so, I agreed to an event I really don't want to attend.

Malteser71 · 13/12/2021 23:52

They can get to fuck.

NannyGythaOgg · 13/12/2021 23:59

No

julieca · 14/12/2021 00:03

The fact this is being asked makes me wonder if it will happen?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 14/12/2021 00:05

@DirtyDancing

The truth is no one knows. I'm in public health and the message is - be sensible. Don't overly mix before Xmas if you want to be with loved ones at Xmas. It is worse in SA than mainstream media is reporting, and we just have to wait to see when it'll peak here (I say when, I believe it will but can equally say if for those who don't think Ormicron will be significant). It'll be around or just after Xmas.

Politically I can't see the Government calling it before Xmas again. But it's a waiting game/ rates game.

It's obviously not being reported in SA then either is none of my family over there are concerned about it yet.
JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 14/12/2021 00:13

I'm led to believe they will avoid at all costs but if necessary London will lock down first week of January

Whatafool123 · 14/12/2021 00:16

My mum has already decided she doesn't want us round at Christmas, she is just so scared despite all of us adults being triple jabbed. My son's whole class, as well as others, have been sent home now until next terms with instructions to get PCRs. It's all so depressing.

ginnig · 14/12/2021 00:16

As this year has gone on, I found out quite a few people broke the rules last Christmas and did see family. They just kept it hush for a while.

I'm a Londoner who broke the rules last yr. I hadn't planned too but I'm a local who lives in an area where most people aren't & the area empties out at christmas. I love it as parking is a dream, it's quiet etc. Lo & behold I saw all my neighbours packing up & travelling to wherever they needed to get to so on Xmas day I thought I'm still walking around the corner to my parents house & I did.

halloweenie13 · 14/12/2021 00:19

I think so, or some significant limits on travel and Christmas/new years anyway. I left on Sunday ( was originally leaving the 21st but a family situation arose and I am now home working for the foreseeable).

Thewiseoneincognito · 14/12/2021 00:20

I can’t see localised lockdowns happening because they know from experience people just leave the areas affected by restrictions and go elsewhere.

Christmas mixing regardless of your views will be an absolute disaster. Anyone of the ‘fuck it’ mindset needs to really take pause and understand the implications of visiting vulnerable family members given the unprecedented nature of this new variant.

nancy75 · 14/12/2021 00:25

The area with restrictions would be over half the country, London is not in its own having high infection rates

You can always self isolate before hand, there is still time! Obvs depends if you have dc & when they finish & if you can wfh.

tootyfruitypickle · 14/12/2021 00:28

I've been supportive of all the lockdowns but now when we have vaccines- no. And I can't be alone. They can't lockdown and they certainly can't close schools!

tootyfruitypickle · 14/12/2021 00:29

I've never seen so many people wearing masks outside as I did today on the high street. People are scared and for most people there's no need. Insanity .

Egghead68 · 14/12/2021 00:32

I don’t think there will be any more full lockdowns. They won’t want to pay the furlough money.

I am expecting further restrictions in January if not before.

Maybe like me they want to see vulnerable family members on Christmas Day.
Stopyourhavering64 · 14/12/2021 00:38

Pupils in Denbighshire, Angelsey and Wrexham are returning to home schooling from Friday .....I think it's a high possibility many other counties in Wales will follow suit

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 14/12/2021 00:38

@Sparklingbrook

I can't understand all the 'will there be a lockdown?' threads. As if posters on a parenting website will somehow know. Confused What's the point?
Don't forget there's always someone who 'has it on good authority'. Or whose husband works security at no 10 and apparently doesn't notice that their wife leaks this kind of 'inside info' Hmm
