Will London be locked down before Christmas?

Could Londoners be locked down again this Christmas? How likely do people think this is? I’m dreading having to spend another Christmas without my family and am considering leaving early to avoid another lockdown.

Christ some people really do overreact! For most people infection will be mild. It’s the ridiculous overtesting that’s causing the problem. Stop the testing!
Yes - and those pesky people who are overreacting by dying or getting very ill. They jet bed to get a grip and stop dying and getting ilo

Like b*ggery am I home schooling again. I’d sooner go into the office and get the offspring in to actual school under the key worker system! Wouldn’t have dreamt of it previously, but there are limits, and another school closure would be mine. Going to ask the hairdresser at the end of Dec to go extra short so there’s lots of room for growth if there’s another lockdown though!

I can't be bothered by The Boris Trump frankly. I've decided That I will keep my own counsel. I can't get food deliveries, due to a high content of people who need it more than me. Which is right. I keep my mask on, when I have to get shopping, and have done so throughout the year. I don't give a flying fuck about the Boris Trumps of this world! They're politicians FFS! They lie! It goes with the territory!
The NI guidance makes me laugh! Indoor dancing is permitted? No dancing outside? WHAT is the difference? Please, someone, enlighten me!

Wakemein2023 · 16/12/2021 07:13

Wishful thinking: 37% of the country have had a booster, and this will include many of the most vulnerable. If we could swiftly bump this up we might keep enough ICU capacity to escape the most restrictive measures. The numbers now are hideous, but given that this time ladt year most had zero immunity it should be different

I definitely think indoor hospitality will close and there will be some kind of social restriction, but I'm hoping that we'll have April 2021 rules

If pubs, resturants, cinemas, theatres, places of worship, nightclubs, are closed, then Londoners will feel locked down.

Street walking in fancy dress could catch on.

If people actually look at the proper data that is coming out of South Africa instead of the nonsense that is being twisted by the media to scare us, they will realise that in vastly immune communities the risk of severe illness and death is very low indeed.

It doesn't look like anyone in South African hospitals with the Omicron variant is on oxygen or a ventilator.

The people most at risk from this variant is those who are unvaccinated and have not contracted Covid before and there is absolutely no herd immunity in their community, such as in many third world counties.

Looks like you called it right, OP, to a certain extent. Call it lockdown by stealth or ‘prioritising’ ones social interactions - yes, I think we are in Lockdown Lite

Our local ambulance service held Christmas party for their drivers recently. Now one third of the drivers are off sick with covid! What a crock.

The censorship on this post with the amount of comments deleted is the reason I rarely visit mumsnet anymore.

Graceambrose · 17/12/2021 15:43

I had not noticed.

DirtyDancing · 17/12/2021 22:53

Sure to answer those earlier doubters

The report I was referring to has now been published.

No evidence’ Omicron is less severe than Delta.

It is clear Government needs to do something to stop the rampant infection rate.
