Will London be locked down before Christmas?

endoftether4 · 13/12/2021 22:03

Could Londoners be locked down again this Christmas? How likely do people think this is? I’m dreading having to spend another Christmas without my family and am considering leaving early to avoid another lockdown.

No! It won’t work anyway local lockdowns don’t as no one listens. If they locked down my area I would just travel and stay with my parents or in-laws

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2021 22:35

Oooooh @Jourdain11 that sounds like a definite sign Shock Sounds like it's a definite. Best go shopping for loo roll/pasta and tinned tomatoes to eat on Christmas Day.

DirtyDancing · 13/12/2021 22:35

The truth is no one knows. I'm in public health and the message is - be sensible. Don't overly mix before Xmas if you want to be with loved ones at Xmas. It is worse in SA than mainstream media is reporting, and we just have to wait to see when it'll peak here (I say when, I believe it will but can equally say if for those who don't think Ormicron will be significant). It'll be around or just after Xmas.

Politically I can't see the Government calling it before Xmas again. But it's a waiting game/ rates game.

lllllllllll · 13/12/2021 22:37

But how would they lock down Londoners?

Maybe by making it a criminal offence to leave, like they did last year?

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2021 22:38

@lllllllllll

I can't understand all the 'will there be a lockdown?' threads.

@Sparklingbrook really? You can’t understand why people want to discuss all things COVID on a chat board that is dedicated to all things COVID? Confused

COVID was capitalised automatically by my new phone’s autocorrect for some reason, but as it does kind of emphasise my point (and I can’t be arsed to change it) I will leave it as it is.

I can't understand why people want to continually speculate about whether there will be a lockdown due to COVID or not, no. Really.

I feel that some think if enough posters on MN say no there won't be one then there won't be. Grin

And MN is very slow and broken tonight. Sad

Smallkeys · 13/12/2021 22:42

Maybe Boris comes on to gauge the mood

CalamariGames · 13/12/2021 22:43

They are saying no local lockdown if you believe the Sun/No 10 www.thesun.co.uk/health/17030358/local-lockdowns-wont-return-london-hard-hit-cities/

@Sparklingbrook Many people (myself included) have very real concerns about whether or not they will be allowed to see their families this Christmas. It may be idle and amusing speculation to you, but it’s a very worrying and upsetting situation for me. I’m glad you have no such worries and find it perfectly acceptable to come on a thread and dismiss other posters’ very real concerns though.

I bloody hope not...not finished my shopping Xmas Grin

Livelovebehappy · 13/12/2021 22:53

Not a chance. Any more lockdowns would mean economical suicide. No way can the country afford further subsidies for companies and furlough.

Watching the News at 10 tonight it really does seem to be moving in that direction though. I sincerely hope not.

I'm glad you're taking things seriously. We can all stay the fuck at home eating our tinned tomatoes on toilet roll on Christmas Day. People need to realise that we're in a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Wanting to go outside is just so fucking selfish, let alone to another city.
bellamountain · 13/12/2021 22:58

As this year has gone on, I found out quite a few people broke the rules last Christmas and did see family. They just kept it hush for a while. There is absolutely no way the vast majority of people are going to stop seeing family and friends this Christmas and if indeed they did try to lock us down again, that ship has long sailed. The realisation that we've all done what we can over the past near on 2 years by locking down, restrictions, vaccines and actually covid is here to stay..... it's not going anywhere. If you're gonna get it, you're gonna get it.

Why would it be? Bad news gets clicks.

Bobholll · 13/12/2021 23:03

Wanting to go outside is selfish 🤣🤣 that’s probably the best thing I’ve read on mumsnet since March 2020 😂😂

TheKeatingFive · 13/12/2021 23:05

Fairly sure that post is a pisstake

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2021 23:08

I have to leave my house to go to work in another city. Which I’ll be doing lockdown or not. Business as usual.

Quartz2208 · 13/12/2021 23:08

I can’t work out who is serious and who isn’t!
Either though it is doubling as quickly as they think in which case London would have peaked by Christmas and no more people can get it
Or it won’t be as bad.

There is little time now for a lockdown to be effective it will be quick and fast and over or again not as bad as feared

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2021 23:09

Oh do people think @Jourdain11 was being serious? Grin Surely not.

Claudethecat · 13/12/2021 23:09

Tinned tomatoes on toilet roll? Luxury. We will be licking watered down tomato puree off the loo seat and will be thankful for it.
