So it is really the cases and isolation that is the problem in terms of bleakness I guess which is to be expected.
A decision really is needed on the 10 day isolation
This was what I was worried about when the data on numbers came in.
It doesn't matter if it is really mild for most. It still creates an issue. Even if hospitalisations for covid are exceptionally low for omicron you've still got a bunch of people who need hospital treatment, electric plants (including nuclear) still need to run, water treatment, gas repairs, telephone line repairs, supermarkets open, delivery drivers delivering... basically all your key workers.
If you get a single onicrom case take out a whole department at the same time, you've got a problem. And we have numerous examples of Christmas Parties illustrating this is a very genuine and probable scenario.
Even if there were zero hospitalisations from omicron and no mandatory quaratine period, it might STILL be a problem if those who are sick are too ill to come to work if we have that many cases at once.
I really am looking at this week and next wondering who is going to be left standing by the end of it. I am wondering if going to get my booster is just an invitation to get onicrom at the same time.
These stories are going to get louder and louder over the next couple of days.
We won't need a lockdown. Nothing will be able to open safely or operate anyway. Including the things we NEED to serve us 24/7.
