Will London be locked down before Christmas?

Could Londoners be locked down again this Christmas? How likely do people think this is? I’m dreading having to spend another Christmas without my family and am considering leaving early to avoid another lockdown.

@maddening

The lockdowns have been against the backdrop of massively increasing death rates, when they get to around 400 per day - I reckon that is when the public start calling for it and then complain it was not soon enough....
I can’t imagine asking for lockdown again. Maybe others will idk
Londoncallingme · 15/12/2021 17:38

No. But we’ve left already because we don’t want to catch it. Already holed up and ready for Christmas! DH is driving back tomorrow to fetch grandparents.

drawhander · 15/12/2021 17:42

There wont be a lockdown. London is already a ghost town

Who would actually care if the Gov say we cant mix with our families on xmas day? Who will abide by those rules this year? I know lots of people who will break the rules this year

Have to say, having been in central London for work both yesterday and today it has been very unghostly indeed (although rush hour commute has been slightly less rammed than it was a few weeks back). Shops and restaurants seem absolutely buzzing though.

@isitbedtimeplease

Oh please.... why go on the internet and say stuff like that just to scaremonger. So baby threads tonight about how this is impacting on peoples mental health
This..

I was walking through a local forest
And bumped into a ghostly Boris,
I said "Boris?!"
And he said "No, I'm Morris!"
I'm Morris, Lord of the Dance,
And I come from France,
Bearing gifts of Lockdown and Merriment on high"
And I said, "But Morris, you look like Boris!
Why can't you just bring a pie?!"
Boris replied: "And pigs can fly!
Lockdown is much more fun when taken with a warm mulled rum!
Cheers to all and party on, just like us all of yesteryear,
I & my entourage raise a glass of Conservative cheer!
Never fear it won't be beer,
Vintage Claret for all of us here
At Number 10, when we hear Big Ben
Strike in another Lockdown Year!
And God bless us one and all..."

No and even if there is I'm not complying. This "3 weeks to flatten the curve" has gone on far way to long imo. If people are concerned they should lockdown themselves but forcing small businesses to close making them go out of business killing people's livelihoods over a virus that pretty much everyone is vaccinated against imo is ridiculous. There's always going to be viruses and we just gotta get on with life. And at this point I'm over it and the government can't even follow their own rules.

rocky1914 · 15/12/2021 18:22

I have a horrible feeling it will be but trying to stay positive (no pun intended) Wink

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 15/12/2021 18:26

@tootyfruitypickle

I've never seen so many people wearing masks outside as I did today on the high street. People are scared and for most people there's no need. Insanity .
Why is it ‘insanity’ to protect yourself and others?
sweetgingercat · 15/12/2021 18:27

It's not about the number of deaths, it's about whether our hospitals can cope with the number of cases. You or I might not have covid badly if we get it, but if the hospitals are overwelmed, what will happen if someone in our family has a heart attack for example, or a car accident, or someone gets run over. Will they get treated? Will they survive? Will the doctors and nurses survive and stay in the health service?

This is what matters and why it's still important to be patient and care about others.

Graceambrose · 15/12/2021 18:31

A lock down , or more restrictions is very likely. Infection rates are rising rapidly. Soon will reach 500.000 cases in 24 hrs. Then set to double within 2 days. You do the maths. NHS will be swamped. BORIS WILL HAVE TO REINTRODUCE LOCK DOWN. Stock the bake. beans.

Signalbox · 15/12/2021 18:34

@ThePix

Wow. Lots of deleted by mumsnet posts!!!!!!
Yes I really want to know what they said. How bad could they be?
Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2021 18:35

Deleted posts on a Covid thread tend to be because someone is guessing facts/talking cobblers or scaremongering, or all 3.

Chandimum · 15/12/2021 18:42

@Smallkeys

Maybe Boris comes on to gauge the mood
🤣 love this
Tubelight · 15/12/2021 18:43

I don’t know but I can tell you that hospitals are busy with very unwell patients who have been waiting for their appointments or are too unwell because of the illness . It’s not like other waves we have had but you never know what’s waiting for us out there ! Omicron itself is not a big admission cause.Community cases are high but impact on hospitals is not overwhelming yet.

DebHagland · 15/12/2021 18:58

Boris is too scared of his back benchers rebelling and kicking him out of office to risk another Christmas lockdown........sure a lot of people would ignore it anyway...........and it would mean No 10 would have to be careful about anyone leaking news of their Christmas parties this year

Should be done and dusted soon then 🤔

So, do we have a population of billions in the UK? Or do jabs not work in the slightest, in which case the booster campaign seems like a bit of a waste of money? Or do we have no immunity from prior infection? Or maybe a mixture of all three?

I don't know, so confusing

Will London be locked down before Christmas?
Superstar22 · 15/12/2021 19:21

Probably, yes I do think London will get locked down

thenovice · 15/12/2021 19:24

Been wanting to say for a while:
I AM SICK OF THE ENDLESS WHINGING AND CRITICISM ABOUT THE MANAGEMENT OF THIS PANDEMIC.

  1. Covid has messed up our world. It is not the fault of anyone in this country.
  2. No-one has come across a situation like this before and so no-one knows for certain what to do about it. There are too many variables.
  3. We are all are doing our best and we can criticise and second guess every government decision, but none of us knows and I'm not sure any of us would do better. Some might do worse.
  4. The pandemic is going to have a big economic impact on all "normal income" people and it's not fair, but that is what it is.
  5. If lots of people get it, some of them will die. If lots and lots of people get it, more will die.
  6. There is an impossible balance to be struck between protecting the economy and protecting people's lives and the operation of the NHS. Everything is going to suffer and it will be unequal and unfair and we will just have to cope (I speak as someone who is a zero hours contractor and has not had furlough or other support payments).
  7. If there is another lockdown, it will be because the health side of the situation has got so bad that there is no other alternative.
  8. That will mean the economy is impacted even more. There is a limit to the financial support the government can provide, because its money comes from us. We can't afford it.
  9. And by the way, those of us who didn't party last Christmas, were doing it to keep OURSELVES safe, not to do the government a favour. We don't have to whine on endlessly about those who took stupid risks by partying. It's a waste of breath.
10. Some day we will come out of this situation. We may come out of it better and stronger.

Love the way everyone worries about London being locked down.

England is a big place you know and there's more to it than just London...

seconddayout · 15/12/2021 19:37

@thenovice I am 100% certain that had Michael Gove or Jeremy Hunt become Prime Minister, there would have been far fewer deaths, and the periods of restriction in 2020 and the first half of 2021 would have been much shorter.

I value human life, I don't think Mr Johnson does.

As for restrictions, I predict any new ones will be England wide, and my guess is an announcement from January 3rd or 4th.

9 million of us live in London, maybe a few of us are talking about it because we live here? There are also a few non Londoners who seem to hope London gets locked down. Obviously living in London makes us to blame for everything Hmm
SclepIntoChristmas · 15/12/2021 19:47

My DH went into London today after being off for 2 weeks with Covid. He went to pick up things so he can work from home. He said the bars were packed full of people as he walked to the station.

DirtyBlonde · 15/12/2021 19:50

Is it really that much now? That's nearly as many as the popuiation of Scotland, NI and Wales combined !
