"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

@ftw163532

And how many millions of people need 2nd doses and boosters? BBC chart says only 40% of eligible adults have had a booster.

I don't see how this is logistically possible.

I imagine it isn’t possible and Johnson knows it.

But he wants to make a point and try to show he tried, and then when not everyone can get one he’ll blame us for any further restrictions and ignore the people saying they tried but couldn’t.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2021 20:47

@Benjispruce5

You don’t have to rebook. If you have a booked appointment and get a walk-in, they cancel your appointment.
Thats nice. Who looks after my son whilst hes in covid jail?

I cant go on my own til Thursday. At which point i cant queue for 8 hours and still do the school pick up.

At which point im queuing with 18 - 30 year olds fresh from Christmas parties...

Unless i can find a booking which then compels dh to pull his fucking finger out and let me go get it.

LostForIdeas · 12/12/2021 20:48

@JanglyBeads

SA pop is a lot younger, that really makes a difference with covid.
It might or it might not.

They seem to see that those who are getting more ill are actually younger (in their 30s) so we actually have no idea at all how omicron is behaving and how it will impact older people in the U.K.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 12/12/2021 20:48

Because they are concerned that if the NHS is busy with boosters the focus will be taken away from other treatments, as a small town we have lost no one due to covid but a few due to missed cancer diagnosis!

SickAndTiredAgain · 12/12/2021 20:49

@Borisjohnsonshairbrush sorry yes that’s what I meant, the government haven’t said you have to be allowed time off for a booster, like you do for maternity appointments. I was just making a comparison as the poster I was replying to said the employers now wouldn’t have a choice but to let you go and get it. I just don’t think that’s true.

It won’t be an issue where I work, but I’m lucky to have very flexible bosses.

LordEmsworth · 12/12/2021 20:50

@Youaremypenguin

For those of you saying you can't get booked until end of December. Neither could I so I just turned up yesterday. They're not going to turn people away now. Turn up, be prepared to wait and get your booster.
There are 2 walk-in centres in Cheshire. Two in the entire county. And they are only open certain days. "Be prepared to wait" outside in the cold for how many hours when it opens at 11am on Wednesday?
ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 12/12/2021 20:50

@Benjispruce5

We have no walk-in facilities here. You have to go to the next town (county) or trek a bit further into Liverpool. Weirdly, our town doesn't have any walk-in medical facilities in general. Not sure why!

I'm OK with my Thursday appt. Not like I'm going anywhere before then, bearing in mind I WFH. Oh, and whoever said about going during the working day, some of us have absolutely no spare time for that. I finish for Christmas on Friday, and need to do all of my work for this week and next week before then. I've a few Court deadlines before Christmas, so I'll be working my socks off.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2021 20:51

Be prepared to wait. These dickheads don't have kids do they?

Wishfulthinking1977 · 12/12/2021 20:51

Sorry meant to tag @SickAndTiredAgain! My phone is shit!! 😂😂 Xx

Bunnyfuller · 12/12/2021 20:53

Easy to promise the jabs, easy to urge you to get them.

Unfortunately work, kids and no drop in nearer than 30 mins away, one of 2 in the whole county.

Nope.

otterlybonkers · 12/12/2021 20:54

@Kshhuxnxk

Guilt tripping about delaying cancer treatment if we don't.
precision comment, so fucking true Star
Warhertisuff · 12/12/2021 20:54

@SickAndTiredAgain

I thought that. I’m sure he said it would involve training thousands of vaccinators, but maybe i misheard because I don’t see how you could recruit, train and deploy them soon enough to make any meaningful difference in 19 days.

There will already be the thousands of trained vaccinators who delivered the first roll out - we were up to nearly 1 million a day back in the Spring. They need to deploy those, which is itself would be Herculean feat even if no training were needed.

daisydoh · 12/12/2021 20:54

@Nowayoutonlydown

so that was it? nothing new!!
Honestly I felt like it was an indirect threat to say if you don't get hoisted further restrictions will be in place.

Why hold a press conference otherwise?

Benjispruce5 · 12/12/2021 20:55

@ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy we don’t have walk-in medical facilities either. These are in community centres and church halls. Google walk-in covid booster near me.

Workyticket · 12/12/2021 20:55

I got mine at The Centre for Life in Newcastle on Friday. They're a "walk in" centre too but only take 5 walk ins an hour. Don't think that's advertised anywhere though 🤔

I had an appointment and was still there for way over an hour. Luckily my bosses are keen for us to get jabbed so allowed me the time.

Octavia174 · 12/12/2021 20:57

@RedToothBrush

I had a booked appointment (out of county) when i went to it, there was a huge delay. I went to a walk in, again out of county, had to play around with where i lived to be able to see these centres.
RedToothBrush · 12/12/2021 20:57

@itsgettingwierd

Well I guess the new 3 word slogan is "get boosted now"

I really hope this is enough to calm this wave. Was feeling pretty confident O variant was lest virulent but him saying it's clear 2 doses isn't enough actually sounded worrying.

Nope its

'Experiencing Technical Difficulties'

and

'in a queue'

Outdoorbeanbags · 12/12/2021 20:57

@PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets

You don't think he's just found a load of vaccines with a use by date of 1st Jan 2022? 🤔
Xmas Grin

I have. We don't have any. The nearest is the next town (county). I looked last night as I'd double booked myself on Thursday. None. Nada. Nothing.

GinPin2 · 12/12/2021 20:58

@jimmyhill

Of course no new restrictions, that's next Sunday's address. Can't lockdown before schools close.
@jimmyhill

Do you think a Lockdown is on the cards?

Bunnyfuller · 12/12/2021 20:59

‘Be prepared to wait’. I will tell my employer and kids’ school that.

Why hadn’t I thought of that?

Why panic about a fucking booster when there’s 100s of 1000s of completely unvaccinated, non mask wearing idiots (including the white government) wandering around? So we dodge this one, what about the next, and the next….

It isn’t going to end because there’s too much inequality in the world so it will continue to fester and mutate in poorer countries and then fuckwits who love their ‘human rights’ ignore everything said by a govt who don’t follow the fucking rules themselves, and so it goes on.

What’s the point. I’ve got 2 girls with awful MH, a lack of belief in anything and I’m kind of with them after the last 2 weeks’ events.

AndreaC74 · 12/12/2021 21:00

Why hold a press conference otherwise?

Distraction! all the headlines tomo will be about this, not parties and rebellious MPs.

Shocking behavior.

mantlepiece · 12/12/2021 21:01

Yes, to the person that said there were lots of trained vaccinators from the last peak. Specifically the army.

My son was planning to meet up with his army friend over Christmas. He told him a week ago that he probably couldn’t as he was being deployed for vaccination duty. So I think they are organised and ready to go immediately.

Tryagainplease · 12/12/2021 21:02

Of course a lockdown is on the cards, they’re attempting to warm us all up for one.

He must be mad if he thinks people will follow it though!!
