"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

I agree re softening up for a lockdown.

I’m not convinced one will happen - I think this is “just in case get the public in the right frame of mind” situation.

My booster is pre booked but I certainly won’t be waiting hours to have it done.

Benjispruce5 · 12/12/2021 21:04

I’m predicting a Christmas lockdown of sorts. I can’t see this going well. Even if everyone got sour to get a booster, it takes 2 weeks to be effective.

Too many people have become 'scientists' of some kind almost overnight and decided that they and the big pharmaceutical companies are all playing us like fiddles.
It's a common view and one that is hard to argue with to be honest.
I just nod and smile now. What's the point ? They won't get the vaccines , I can't make them , there isn't anything you can do

jgw1 · 12/12/2021 21:06

@Tryagainplease

Of course a lockdown is on the cards, they’re attempting to warm us all up for one.

He must be mad if he thinks people will follow it though!!

Nonsense, there won't be another lockdown. It was made quite clear that the removal of restrictions on freedom day was irreversible, no more mask wearing, social distancing or anything.

I hope not

And think it’s not actually

More be prepared for big numbers because they will happen

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/12/2021 21:07

@jgw1 yet we've all got to wear masks again?

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 21:08

They have brought masks back though!
This is the warm up ; get vaccinated and the boosters
Then the news will be more doom about the hospitals not being able to cope
By next weekend it'll be even worse
I hope I'm wrong , I really do , but it's not looking good is it ?

I assume her comment was tongue in cheek

@MamDancer

42 military planning teams!

This is war, people! vaxing the entire adult nation machine gun stylee

I said to Dh yesterday (he was bored while queuing for his booster) that they should adapt nail guns to speed the process up Xmas Grin

The only good thing about a possible Christmas lockdown is that I can justify cancelling MIL coming for Christmas. Blush

dementedma · 12/12/2021 21:11

We have kept masks and restrictions in Scotland all along. Our infection rates are no better than Englands. What does that say about how effective they are?
Another mobilisation for British Armed Forces. Hope its bloody appreciated.

My understanding was that you had a decent immunity after a week, but two weeks for cover to be completed optimised.

No we don't.
Boris quite clearly stated in the summer that the lifting of restrictions in the run up to freedom day was irreversible.

He is a man of his word, he would not go back on that.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 12/12/2021 21:12

I found my MH was really damaged by the first lockdown - some improvement when people were allowed to form a bubble later but by then the damage was done. I’ve found regular ish contact with other people to really offset some of the worst of it.

I have severe MH issues and have done since I was a child therefore really need to safeguard it in the future.

I’m pro vaccine and pro taking precautions but it’s highly unlikely I would comply again to the extent of lockdown one due to its effect on me.

As it was I spent literally thousands on private therapy over the next 6 months as the NHS waiting list was as expected very very long). Thankfully I was in a position to be able to do so or I don’t know what would have happened to me.

Benjispruce5 · 12/12/2021 21:12

@Warhertisuff yes, exactly.

LegoPandemic · 12/12/2021 21:13

Trained vaccinator here. I haven’t put myself on the rota this month because I have Christmas prep to do and school holidays and we are all just getting over an awful cold.
Jabbing is hard work and cold and it isn’t worth it for £11 per hour.
I did it this time last year but now we need a workforce whose job this is. Feel taken advantage of.

Benjispruce5 · 12/12/2021 21:13

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/12/2021 21:13

@jgw1 I aren't sure if you're taking the piss or you've been living under a rock? But just in case... The below is off the gov website

In England, face coverings are now required by law in most indoor public places and on public transport, including taxis

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 12/12/2021 21:13

dementedma a recent study I read allowed for something like a 7% reduction due to masks. So it is only small.

Benjispruce5 · 12/12/2021 21:13

@Roundeartheratchriatmas sorry that was meant to be Flowers

I volunteered as a steward at the start, so wasn't being paid and the pressure to take more and more shifts wasn't worth it!
containsnuts · 12/12/2021 21:15

Genuine question - how long does it take to train a vaccinator and what's involved? (Slightly concerned about being injected by some random unscreened person with only an afternoon's training).
