"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

Is it odd him making Covid announcements on a Sunday evening? While I'd be happy to see him gone, the timing is crap and nothing else is in place, the ducks in a row so beloved of many Mumsnetters. Although Emma Kennedy has him down for resigning on Friday a.m. She must be anticipating them losing the by-election

GoldenOldBoy · 12/12/2021 18:38

We haven't had a new catchphrase for a while.

'Boosters are for life, not just for Christmas'

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 18:38

@StealthPolarBear maybe because tomorrow is Monday, a good way to start a new plan? There's around 10 working days before some offices leave/break up for Xmas. Students will start leaving uni for home so it gives people time to prioritize and gp practices/pharmacies to assist the booster. There was talk of the army coming in and helping.

Not only that 8pm-11pm is peak TV time. Just a convenient slot with most viewers.

@SickAndTiredAgain

Not the point of this thread, but where do people find the strictly spoilers??
Digitalspy site, clock on Forums, scroll down and click on Strictly Come Dancing

This week looks a bit uncertain mind

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:38

Just Google ' strictly spoilers' and it comes up !

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2021 18:39

@Carinattheliqorstore1

I’m concerned he’s going to start talking about vaccinating children. Makes me a bit uneasy
Oh that announcement is due in the week. Already leaked.
the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:39

' Boosters are for life, not just for Christmas'

The 'Boris' thing, I quite agree. Apparently in the Staffordshire constituency, 'Boris' is now very much 'Johnson'. I think many Mumsnettets are quite behind the curve on this shift.

He'll definitely steal that one. Grin

@codexa

First thing that needs to happen is the banning of being able to call him "Boris". I am truly sick of it now.

Tony Blair, Theresa May, David Cameron, etc. and so on were NEVER called by their first names only. It only serves to forgive the man in a chummy way. Ugh.

However "Mr. Johnson" has far too much gravitas for this idiot. Boris Johnson will do from now on ...... spoken in hope more than in expectation though!

Blair and Cameron definitely were - especially Cameron, I know loads of people who referred to him as 'Dave'.
the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:43

Oh, the public will get the blame next Saturday or Sunday when it's level five and being told how bad we've been for wanting to see our loved ones..
Despite queuing up for boosters and jabs and wearing masks and generally doing our best. It is so frustrating to be honest.
No wonder people are so fed up.

Me too! It’s deliberate by the right wing press so we all think of him as a friend.Angry

dilly123 · 12/12/2021 18:44

Actually don't care what he has to say... I've never complied to this bullshit scam & I don't intend to start doing so now!!

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:45

I always try and write the PM's full name as he isn't my ' mate ' at all.
Far from it

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 12/12/2021 18:46

I’ve usually referred to him as that fucking twat Boris - is that still ok ?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/12/2021 18:47

I think Boris is perfect for him. In EXACTLY the same way (and I mean, EXACTLY) as Borat is perfect for Borat. Wink

Nell7 · 12/12/2021 18:47

IMO people refer to him as just "Boris" due to a lack of respect; not because they see him as a mate.

Rhayader · 12/12/2021 18:47

There’s not going to be any additional restrictions. Will just be about the booster programme. How they are going to go faster. And a warning about omicron given that we now have hospitalised patients.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/12/2021 18:48

According to the news its pre-recoreded.
Its about boosters.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 12/12/2021 18:48

Wanna see him with those Love Actually cards again

„I have failed“

„We didn’t do enough soon enough“

„Brexit was a failure“

„I take full responsibility“

„I resign“

climbs in a fridge, closes door

everybody claps

Fallagain · 12/12/2021 18:49

@Nell7

I think he cultivates this persona. A lots of his behaviour is seen as acceptable coming from Boris, or at least more so than if it came from Mr Alexander Johnson.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2021 18:49

I always called Cameron: Dave, and May: Tezza. Even Blair was called Tones.

I will continue to call Boris Boris. It is easier to say Boris with disdain than Johnson. I will also continue to call him knob and twatface.

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:49

On another thread, it's been discovered that those in hospital with Omnicron are in there because of it and not already in there and then caught it ( if that makes sense)

toomuchlaundry · 12/12/2021 18:50

Surely people will look at the science, rather than just go against Boris because they want to stick 2 fingers up at him. My DM is vulnerable, if it turns out Omicron could be really serious, I am not going to have a big family gathering which could cause her huge problems, just so we can have Christmas and say stuff you to Boris. We will take precautions
