"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

I’d like it to be a resignation speech but I suspect it’s just all show and distraction techniques

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:23

At the moment I loath Boris Johnson so much it's ABB here ' anyone but Boris '
Not that that solves the Omnicron crisis or anything else at all :(
Plus will anyone not see loved ones this year ?
Even if your not that bothered by ' party gate' , asking the public to give up another Christmas will not go down well at all and I predict only one or two people might do it : the rest will be sticking up a few fingers and telling them to naff off very loudly.

Sunflowersinthewind · 12/12/2021 18:23

I think its he level 4 announcement and timed nicely to undermine the MPs that want to vote against the Plan B restrictions

There does seem to be a lot of this pre vote
the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:25

If he thinks that a speech with brushed hate would convince the likes of Steve Baker to vote for the new restrictions, I think he'll be bitterly disappointed!

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:25

Hair , not hate

Pixxie7 · 12/12/2021 18:29

I reckon he is going to use the need for boosters as a threat and possibly make vaccination compulsory.

I think it helps him look in the right position and them ignoring what’s actually going on

Having Labour get you through isn’t great

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 18:29

It will be threats, slaps on the wrist and blackmail.
He will speak to us like naughty school kids and put the vaccine pressure on. The lockdown if if if if if any would be Jan when people are more likely to hit a health kick do dry Jan etc.

salviapages · 12/12/2021 18:29

I'm getting married on the 18th, ceremony at register office with 40 people followed by meal at pub. I'm so nervous it will be cancelled!

gherdl · 12/12/2021 18:29

If he resigned wouldn't Raab be in charge until someone else became leader. Gove will be circling, it doesn't bear thinking about

LolaLouLou · 12/12/2021 18:30

Just a reminder of Xmas 2020

In a strange way I miss Hancock.
Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 18:30

@salviapages please please try and not worry. A lockdown would be catastrophic so suddenly.

Fallagain · 12/12/2021 18:31

Tories don’t want him to resign yet. They need him to blame all the shit on before they wheel out their next leader in time for the next general election in May.

It will probably be book your booster but goodluck getting an appointment and even if you’re vaccinated tomorrow then it will take until 27th to be protected.

JuneOsborne · 12/12/2021 18:31

Oh, @salviapages you must be on tenterhooks. Fingers crossed you get your special day Smile

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:32

It's a poisoned chalice for Labour which ever way you look at it.
The daily Mail comments are very anti everything to do with the virus or any restrictions at all , the Steve Baker fans come out in force.
Labour are having to side with the enemy for the greater good .
It's all very mucky.

Fallagain · 12/12/2021 18:32

@Bromley4ever

This issue is driving me bonkers. We live in a first floor flat in a large Victorian house, share of freehold. London suburbs. Both DCs are in a secondary school just right for them so we don't want to move, we have about 7 more years till they are both done. Older son is in the attic room but it's small and not ideal - conversion would make it better for a cool £50K, we would have to add it to the mortgage. We can't afford a house unless we move further away from school and to an area we aren't so keen on. Older DC is y10 so gearing up for GCSEs so we need to avoid too much disruption. Sometimes the flat feels so cramped I want to scream, and not much private space for anyone let alone us, everyone can overhear everything anyone else says (not ideal when trying to keep Xmas presents secret). Issue feels more acute every inch bigger the DCs get. So which is more important, proximity to school and a place we like or a nicer house layout with a proper layout (i.e. a proper upstairs and separate living/eating area).Going on the market would be disruptive and there seems to be little in our price range that makes me feel like it's worth moving. Even adding £20 or £30K to match what we'd spend on the conversion doesn't get us much more than a very small terraced house in an areas we're less keen on. What shall we do?
You need to make your own thread in chat.
StealthPolarBear · 12/12/2021 18:33

It does seem an odd time abd day just to update on boosters. Most people who want one have either had one or booked one surely? Laat week i was turned away from my appointment!

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 18:34

@Fallagain I absolutely think this is the fall of him. I can't see him in power in the next 12months. He makes the Kennedys look like the Brady bunch .

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:34

I've got one booked : 22nd.
Something to look forwards too eh?
..

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/12/2021 18:36

people still stay tuned in after strictly results?

PigeonLittle · 12/12/2021 18:36

@Nat6999

Could it be his resignation? Ds has seen a tweet from Natalie Bennett in the House of Lords that the 1922 Committee have enough letters to put vote of no confidence ballot in to operation.
Woah I think that seals it.

Where as he and his cohorts are very much like The Muppets

SickAndTiredAgain · 12/12/2021 18:37

Not the point of this thread, but where do people find the strictly spoilers??

codexa · 12/12/2021 18:37

First thing that needs to happen is the banning of being able to call him "Boris". I am truly sick of it now.

Tony Blair, Theresa May, David Cameron, etc. and so on were NEVER called by their first names only. It only serves to forgive the man in a chummy way. Ugh.

However "Mr. Johnson" has far too much gravitas for this idiot. Boris Johnson will do from now on ...... spoken in hope more than in expectation though!
