Johnson

I wonder what they’ll say.
@TheVampiresWife Because we'd be starting off the coming Omicron wave in a much better position. As it is we're up shit creek without even taking Omicron into account.
Other countries who had far more draconian restrictions than us over the summer had higher cases then, and are in a similar or worse position to us now.

Summersdreaming · 08/12/2021 20:14

@rrhuth fair enough, but I am not at risk, I have had covid. I knew I didn't need the 2nd jab but it was required for travelling without isolating, which I accept was my choice. I'm sure the vaccines will be mandatory soon anyway so I won't have a choice.

Nicknacky · 08/12/2021 20:15

@EnnAndJay So you won’t meet a friend inside?

So basically you don’t leave your house much unless it’s to go and sit outside? Did you live that kind of life prior to covid?

rrhuth · 08/12/2021 20:17

You don't know you didn't need the second vaccine Confused you don't know how you'll react to your next covid infection.

The vaccine boosts your immunity. Vaccine immunity is safer than infection immunity.

EnnAndJay · 08/12/2021 20:18

Not at the height of a pandemic, no.

And we travelled a lot, actually. But it's a different world now.

rrhuth · 08/12/2021 20:19
@TheVampiresWife Because we'd be starting off the coming Omicron wave in a much better position. As it is we're up shit creek without even taking Omicron into account.
Yes I agree with this, tolerating the high Delta case rate was a poor decision. Especially for young people who were infected needlessly.

EnnAndJay · 08/12/2021 20:21

Thank you @rrhuth.

We can see how bad it is in South Africa and they started with 0. We're starting with 50000.

PAFMO · 08/12/2021 20:22
@PAFMO. The fact that unvaccinated people with prior immunity from infection are less likely to be reinfected than vaccinated are to catch covid for thr first time, demonstrates that naturally acquired immunity is more robust. Studies from Israel back this up. If the government are so concerned about covid and herd immunity, why isn't natural immunity taken into consideration?
That would be the same study widely shared on anti-vax platforms with posters only sharing the findings you just did and choosing to omit the second and arguably more significant finding that the most strongly protected against catching Covid (again) are those previously infected AND subsequently vaccinated, right?
Or is it a different one?

Why tag me btw?

paranoidnamechanger · 08/12/2021 20:24

@EnnAndJay

Thank you *@rrhuth*.

We can see how bad it is in South Africa and they started with 0. We're starting with 50000.

Like I said, their vaccination rate is nowhere near as high as ours.

Try harder.

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2021 20:24

Yes I agree with this, tolerating the high Delta case rate was a poor decision.

The high growth in some countries have shown delta was an issue before the new variant

Germany has very high death rate atm

Not sure why people think it’s less of an issue elsewhere

Dealing with high delta plus omicron growth rate sounds worse

Etinoxaurus · 08/12/2021 20:26

@frozendaisy

So .... Get a booster Work from home Put a mask on Covid pass if you want to go out raving

Could be worse

It will be Sad
TheVampiresWife · 08/12/2021 20:28

But it's a different world now

No it's not. It's the same world, but with shit going on.

This too will pass. Just as every pandemic in history has.

Nicknacky · 08/12/2021 20:30

@EnnAndJay That’s quite sad you are restricting your life so so much although I’m not surprised after reading your posts for so long.

CaliforniaDrumming · 08/12/2021 20:31

@EnnAndJay I am not trying to pick on you or anything, but your way of life just depresses me so much, maybe because it may well be the future. Zoom calls with friends? Never meeting anyone inside?:(

vickyc90 · 08/12/2021 20:31

Interesting point of view. We are all arguing over what we do, what about we do what Mother Nature intended let it run through the population unchecked see who is left at the end then move on. I have said since march 2020 all households with vulnerable members should be shielding the rest of us live a normal life 6 months from now especially with omicron the healthy would have natural immunity likely with very few deaths as it looks even less deadly than wild types 1%

Quartz2208 · 08/12/2021 20:32

That actually brings up the interesting question of what happens with Delta in this.

And I dont know the answer but I always thought that one variant will take over rather than having both variants grow?

And yes Delta is a problem elsewhere in Europe

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2021 20:32

Don’t go there with it may be the future stuff

It will pass - listen to Vallance there was something he said tonight

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2021 20:33

I don’t know either actually

But whatever was allowing delta to grow so quickly can’t be helpful re omicron

Pearlessence · 08/12/2021 20:34

@Cyrilgoggin

Why are some of you reacting so badly to this? It's a genuine question. Some more measures, like more mask wearing and wfh if you can. Seems sensible to me? Not the end of the world?
Honestly thinking exactly the same thing. People whipped into a frenzy over an 'uncomfortable' mask.
CaliforniaDrumming · 08/12/2021 20:35

@MarshaBradyo You are right, of course. This too shall pass.... eventually.

EnnAndJay · 08/12/2021 20:35

@TheVampiresWife

But it's a different world now

No it's not. It's the same world, but with shit going on.

This too will pass. Just as every pandemic in history has.

Climate change.

It'll be here before we're done with Covid.

EnnAndJay · 08/12/2021 20:37

@Quartz2208

Well Omicron is going to take over from Delta. So Europe (who are of course behind us) will have their Delta wave become an Omicron wave. Whereas we'll have an Omicron wave in addition to our previous Delta wave.

Another reason why "freedom day" was a complete and utter shitshow.

rrhuth · 08/12/2021 20:38

If you've been saying this since March despite all the scientific explanations of why it won't work you are more than a bit silly Confused

You know you clinically vulnerable dentist? Who will see their patients? And the teachers, nurses, doctors, shop workers...? And pray, for the housebound/elderly, how do you intend to care for them?

It won't fucking work. If it would work, we'd be doing it.

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2021 20:39

Why are people getting more worried about a steady delta wave over a rapidly rising one Confused

Quartz2208 · 08/12/2021 20:40

@EnnandJay but they are NOT behind us. We are by no means the highest rates at the moment. Most of Europe is experiencing Delta and Omicron waves at the same time.

Neither do I think that Netherlands is necessarily behind us in Omicron.

Now had you said because we had it earlier we have more time to suppress it down you may have had a point.
