@vickyc90 uts not the unvaccinated taking up thr majority of beds in critical care. Also, as a healthy not overweight 60 year old, I had covid and was absolutely fine, as were most of my friends, this was prior to vaccines. 14 months later I still have immunity. I don't know a single person who has had covid twice, but every single person I know who has had it recently is double vaccinated.
Obviously almost everyone who has it is double vaccinated because there are far more people vaccinated than not.
That doesn't mean the vaccine isn't efficient.
It's an example of Base Rate Fallacy.

@EnnAndJay

I hope those of you who fought against low-level measures over the summer and autumn are happy.

Enjoy your last minute Zoom Christmases.

Aww, I'm pleased 4u babe.

@vera99

Lest we forget.
Lest we forget what?

That some people can't wear masks?

@TheVampiresWife @vera99

funny enough DH is on a Jet2 flight home right now! He has a letter from GP re his exemption which they accepted. On the way there he wasn't asked at all (despite not wearing a mask)

LowlandLucky · 08/12/2021 19:54

Anyone else want to stick their finger in their ears and sing i'm not listening ?

vickyc90 · 08/12/2021 19:54

@Tulipomania

I have been triple vaccinated vickyc. It doesn't prevent you catching Covid. It just prevents you dying from it.

I can't afford to catch it.

That's why isolation needs to end as well which looks like could be around April time. If you don't get sick pay maybe going to the theatre isn't wise right now.

GPs were told last year not to provide proof of exemption - mine won't. I usually carry my diagnosis letter from my consultant in case anyone asks - they haven't as yet, and I'm not sure they'd even have heard of my condition even if they did!

IncessantNameChanger · 08/12/2021 19:56

I am 7 months post being double jabbed so due my booster.

I dont think anyone should be forced and I'm pro vaccine. But on a personal level if I had known back when having my original vaccine that I would need 3 monthly boosters I might have rolled my eyes.

It's not a dictatorship. I dont want to go there personally.

By the time we know for certain if omni can escape vaccines or increase hospitalization we will be in deep shit by that point again. On that basis I dint honestly care. Another month, another reason to be scared ... or desensitized

Summersdreaming · 08/12/2021 19:58

Is refusing a 3rd dose of a vaccine now classed as anti-vax? Confused what about the 13th? Or 30th? Every 6 months or no freedom? Every 6 months or you lose your job?

I'm far more worried by the ferocious way people have turned on eachother in the last 18 months. Sneering at those who have "only" had 2 jabs and are reluctant to have more.

I had 1 jab then covid, it was fine. I had my 2nd jab so I could travel without isolating. When the gun is held to my head again I will consider the 3rd, but don't kid yourselves the 3rd one will set you free for long.

Labtest7 · 08/12/2021 19:58

@PAFMO. The fact that unvaccinated people with prior immunity from infection are less likely to be reinfected than vaccinated are to catch covid for thr first time, demonstrates that naturally acquired immunity is more robust. Studies from Israel back this up. If the government are so concerned about covid and herd immunity, why isn't natural immunity taken into consideration?

bellamountain · 08/12/2021 19:59

The masks in cinema thing only really makes sense in the foyer since most people sip on drinks and eat popcorn all film.

LuckyAmy1986 · 08/12/2021 19:59

Oh really? I didn't know that. He got the letter from a private GP, not sure if that made a difference. It was after a diagnosis from a consultant.

MerrilyFcked · 08/12/2021 19:59

@Watapalava

Ennandjay

Ill be having a massive family christmas whether its in the rules or not. Like i did last year too

Well, at least you own the fact you're just as selfish and shit as our government!

I don't think any of them will set me free Confused

I think they will reduce my likelihood of serious illness.

Yes I think it is odd to have two and refuse three.

prynaithda21 · 08/12/2021 20:00

I think the work from home policy should never have been dropped and am glad it's back. More space for those who have to travel to a place of work on public transport, and less car travel.

I'm not in favour of vaccine passports except very limited circumstances. I'd prefer reduced capacity, which is certainly possible for cinemas and sports stadia. A few less glory seeking Manchester United supporters going to Old Trafford would be preferable to vaccine checks, for example.

Nothinbut · 08/12/2021 20:01

You can take an LFT if you don't have a covid passport can't you?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/12/2021 20:04

We need to be able to live with it and if that means increasing the capacity of the NHS that's what we should do

I feel pretty safe in saying the Tories won't expand the NHS - not when there's money to be made by selling it off

It won't be done as baldly as that of course; I'm expecting some sort of rapid access/"healthcare plus" thing, for which folk will be expected to pay extra

And that won't work either - except for the cronies

EnnAndJay · 08/12/2021 20:04
@EnnAndJay Genuine question. Have you lived “normally” at all since this all began? Went for a coffee with a friend, out for dinner, went to a gym class, shopped for clothes etc? Anything that most people do in normal times.
I have met with friends outside, yes. But we prefer to meet over Zoom anyway, makes it much easier for those who live a distance away.

DH and I are keen cooks, so we are very happy to eat in, we have a home gym, and I've done all my clothes shopping online for years now.

EnnAndJay · 08/12/2021 20:06

@TheVampiresWife Because we'd be starting off the coming Omicron wave in a much better position. As it is we're up shit creek without even taking Omicron into account.

twelly · 08/12/2021 20:06

The restrictions will not stop - it will continue, up to now most people have obeyed the guidelines but some haven't. The government have totally chaotic - had there been one clear lockdown as in many of the asian countries then we would have been able to carry on (with border controls.) That didn't happen so now we have constant array of mixed messages. I believe that we should have either had one full and I mean full lockdown or no lockdowns, neither happened and now I think that really we should just leave actions to people's own choice. If you want to wear masks you can - personal choice but freedom. That is not selfish view that is an opinion - let people live. The care homes residents are isolated anyway they do not mix freely and many of the vulnerable are less likely to mix - everyone can make their own decision with or without masks. We should not start this down the avenue as it will continue to erode freedoms

InCahootswithOrwell · 08/12/2021 20:07

@VladmirsPoutine

Does anyone think this is the first step in the road to a lockdown? At least a winter one.
Almost certainly.

The thing about lockdowns is that you have to try and do something to prevent them. Crossing your fingers and hoping that 'virus gonna virus' works out for you is a high risk strategy.

Running covid hot with unprecedented levels of pressure in hospitals for months (not just covid) always ran the risk of a variant turning up that would be a big problem when we were least equipped to deal with it. We took the gamble, it very much looks like we might lose.

And before anyone else repeats the nonsense, no, increasing capacity isn't an answer. If it was a workable solution, don't you think an expert anywhere else in the world would have come up with it for their health systems rather than put restrictions in place?

Redleavesfalling289 · 08/12/2021 20:12

Some of the people of this thread are so out of touch it makes me feel sick... but morality, eh. I guess you'll get a gold throne in heaven.

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2021 20:12

I can’t see it being that much easier for countries in this midst of fast delta growth

lightisnotwhite · 08/12/2021 20:12

I’ve lived normally. Turned up for work everyday. Gone to the pub outside. Met with friends for a dog walk. Seen my parents and in laws. Been to a reduced number wedding. Been to a normal wedding.

My second job was furloughed so that was good. My first job was twice as busy so not so good, I’ve not been a martyr to bloody Covid or moaned at anyone fir not doing Covid the “right” way.
