I wonder what they’ll say.

@the80sweregreat

Not everyone can work from home though What about these people ? ..
It is better for anyone who is unable to WFH if those who can are out of the way.
ComDummings · 08/12/2021 19:12

@Cyrilgoggin

Why are some of you reacting so badly to this? It's a genuine question. Some more measures, like more mask wearing and wfh if you can. Seems sensible to me? Not the end of the world?
Because this is just the beginning of more restrictions
Changemusthappen · 08/12/2021 19:13

They talk about cases rocketing. However surely that is only important if hospitalisations rocket. Don't the stats show that it is the vulnerable and the unvaccinated that are going to be most affected medically by this. Therefore we need to move to telling the vulnerable and the unvaccinated to isolate/be very care/take responsiblity for yourself.

Something needs to be put in place in hospitals to ensure the unvaccinated do not overwhelm the NHS.

CaliforniaDrumming · 08/12/2021 19:13

@AutumnAlmanack

How depressing was that? I admit I hid away and cried for everything that was and will never be again.
Thinking of going off to have a good cry now. Not particularly because of the briefing; it has changed little for me. Just slowly sinking in how much has changed.
Whats1hePoint · 08/12/2021 19:14

All the people spouting “oooh well it stops you dying so just do as you’re told”, can do one.

I’m honestly struggling to see what’s so good about staying alive if this is the world we live in. There are worse things than dying.

Come on - covid has been shit

People are frustrated, upset, tired, scared.

MaxNormal · 08/12/2021 19:15

@Cyrilgoggin it was the conversation about mandatory vaccinations bit that did for me Sad

I'm actually a bit nauseous with stress now.

Exactly this 👏🏻

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/12/2021 19:16

I agree with the post you've quoted. I don't support mandatory vaccination in Austria style, but with rights come responsibilities

So do I - at least in theory - but I'm questioning what'll happen if restrictions on vaccine refusers were to impact groups already perceived to be disadvantaged
Obviously we could give selected groups an exemption, but then there's the question of how that would be viewed by everyone else

I realise of course that these are the difficult questions, which is probably why there's never been any response when I've mentioned it before

Quartz2208 · 08/12/2021 19:16

Actually @EnnAndJay I think the caveat for that was ALWAYS a new variant. And I am not and never have been in a mob.

Delta has never hit 100k cases which is what that was all about. Throughout it was always said that a new variant may change things. I know I did.

But again it isnt cases that is important it is the severity which at the moment is looking positive in South Africa and data coming through.

We cannot outrun this we never have - yet you still somehow think we can

I doubt the UK will go for mandatory vaccines. I will be very upset if they do.

I do think we will have vaccine passports for more non-essential events etc.

onewayanother · 08/12/2021 19:18

@Nothinbut

One of my friends said she won't have the jab as she doesn't trust Boris. I'll be honest I am not sure he sat there developing it himself.

Do you trust Boris? Honest questions.

I'm sorry you are feeling this low Brew and I do understand it is all shit but I think the reason for staying alive is it is not going to stay this way.

Honest question why should I as a healthy 30 something who has been vaccinated wear a mask in theatre or the cinema ruining the experience when it is uncomfortable. When I catch it I am likely to spend a few days moping around the house with a cold. Yet someone who is over weight, CEV or unvaccinated who is much more likely to put pressure on the NHS faces no further restrictions. His absence of shielding is basically saying he would rather our kids pay the economic costs of working from, lower income for places like shops, restaurants etc yet the vulnerable are still out and about. It wrong on so many levels. I don't think anyone will comply once the lights go out masks will be under chins they already aren't being worn in shops local to us.
MaxNormal · 08/12/2021 19:19

@rrhuth honestly at this point I don't care if I'm shut out of everything including supermarkets. I'll sign a bit of paper promising not to use the NHS if I get covid. Or anything else, if it comes to that.

Just as long as they don't force me to get the vaccine I don't care, I can live without the rest.

herecomesthsun · 08/12/2021 19:20

why should I as a healthy 30 something who has been vaccinated wear a mask in theatre or the cinema

It is now the law, as far as I can make out

CorrBlimeyGG · 08/12/2021 19:20

Obviously we could give selected groups an exemption

They've still not worked out an official face covering exemption scheme. I doubt they'll pay any attention to those unable to have the vaccine.

twelly · 08/12/2021 19:20

It not just the addition of a few rules though - its the gradual imposition and restriction of freedom. Covid is here to stay we can't keep on with a constant eroding of liberty - it might be adults now impacted but its young people, children who are the most impacted. There lives have impacted, their freedom has been curtailed, mental health issues have rocketed and this will impact on the young. If the elderly and vulnerable choose to isolate then that is their decision but let those who can live life as they choose.

Unsure33 · 08/12/2021 19:22

Thank goodness for Whitty . He is the sensible one .

For all you who are saying sod the rules because of the party then more fool you .

What are you lemmings ?

Just because you see a lot of people jumping into a deep cold river off a high bridge would you follow ?

Are you not asking If someone had this rehearsal video why they released it now ?

Yes if it happened it was wrong , very wrong .

But we are in the middle of a pandemic and if you ignore guidance because of a few idiots then I despair .

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 08/12/2021 19:22

Bloody hell, so glad that lots of you lot weren't involved in the World Wars.

Is it REALLY such a hardship to put a facemask on? Get a life. If that is all you have to worry about you're very lucky.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 08/12/2021 19:22

Sick to the back teeth of people whinging about a two-tier society. We already have one. The people who are most vulnerable are already largely shut out of society. Apparently it's fine to tell them to 'just shield'. But the minute anyone suggests people who have actively chosen not to have a vaccine , stay at home? Oh that's segregation.

TheShallows · 08/12/2021 19:22

I missed my periods for 12 weeks straight after getting vaccinated and as a young women who (hopefully) isn't done having kids I would not be willing to get a booster every 3 months and have ongoing cycle changes.

I am pro science, pro vaccine etc. I wouldn't get any vaccine on a 3 monthly basis due to this.

Cyrilgoggin · 08/12/2021 19:23

Thanks to those who replied to my question about why people are so upset. I've had a terrible year and lost my closest living relative. But in London we've had almost 6 months of things being pretty much back to normal. I've been triple jabbed. My business had started to recover. If I have to make some sacrifices like wearing a mask in indoor settings to protect myself and others I'm ok with that.

I do understand that others feel differently though. None of this is how we want it to be.

vera99 · 08/12/2021 19:23

Jet2 want a signed letter from a doctor before they will accept mask exemption. On our holiday in the Canaries a week ago saw not a single folk indoors or on transport without one. Funny that.
