*Well DH won't be able to work from home tomorrow, he's got a team meeting tomorrow with a working lunch of sausage rolls, crisps, mincepiesgrin, but it's essential work like the party on 18 Dec last year, so ok.

I wonder if Boris be taking questions afterwards?!*

Brilliant! 🤣

@ArblemarchTFruitbat

Hmm, am I being cynical or is this a really good way to distract focus from the Christmas party hoo-ha?
I'm the opposite view , I think the leak of the party and them laughing about it is purposely leaked . They then bring restrictions in the public won't follow . The govt doesn't want us to follow as the economy needs money. Then in January they can blame the public for not following the rules. We are being played
Platax · 08/12/2021 12:15

To be fair, I doubt that it's aimed at distracting attention from the Christmas party fuss, because if anything it reminds us all. People will be saying "Why should we comply with any of this when Johnson and his friends don't?" So the motivation could well be that they're seeing some very worrying figures.

None of which will stop them casting around for something else to take our minds off Xmas parties. They're probably telling MI5 to go easy on trying to prevent terrorist attacks Angry

Lostinacloud · 08/12/2021 12:16

I’m young, I’m healthy, I had covid pre vaccines and had a few days on the sofa watching Netflix with some lemsips. Have never caught it since, despite many exposures and not being particularly careful.
Felt forced to have one vaccine so I was allowed to leave the country and see my family in England (no joke) and have had periods twice per month ever since after at least 8 years of 4 weekly regular as clockwork cycles before that . Don’t want or need another one thank you but my freedoms will soon be taken away from me. It’s wholly unethical and wrong and I hope to god there are some human rights lawyers plugging away somewhere. I am not a danger to others, know for absolute certain I won’t take up a hospital bed with covid and yet I have lost my bodily autonomy because I don’t want to uphold my end of the government contract for my own health and well-being reasons.
The U.K. has a small window of opportunity to buck the worldwide trend and it must be grabbed with every available hand. I cannot emphasise this enough, I feel like I am living the future!

DeclineandFall · 08/12/2021 12:19

Plan B is important as the Omicron variant marches on. But of course this government are using it as a dead cat to distract from Johnson's lying and yet again seriously undermining important messaging in a public health crisis. So more people will get ill and die. He needs to go.

NoNameHere12 · 08/12/2021 12:20

Agreed, restrictions knowing we won’t follow them, hence why they are bigging up the Xmas party. Then blame us for not following restrictions

CaliforniaDrumming · 08/12/2021 12:21

I am a slim, healthy immigrant who doee not smoke or drink. I was required to show my TB vaccination certificate and take a test for TB before entering the UK so I didnt take up a hospital bed. How very dare they?

This is my view. The second we locked down the first time there was never any way to be able to ethically "unlock" us. The only solution is to keep bringing in more amd more shit until we get so sick of it we end it all.ourselves. absolves the government of any responsibility and turns eveeyone against each other

The omicron variant, that so far is showing that although highly transmissible is not putting people in hospital and is not having the serious effects that Delta has had on people. If it's continued to prove that it's not serious and only causes cold like symptoms will everyone be happy to proceed with a booster and eventually a 4th vaccine, masks, social distancing, vaccine passports for what could essentially be considered a cold??

This is beyond madness now

Going by the title it takes more than Johnson to approve them iirc

What about MP vote

NoNameHere12 · 08/12/2021 12:23

We already turned against each other with no help from the government. We did that ourselves.

Hating on the masks wearing, who was and wasn’t vulnerable. Then we turned on each other about vaccinations, now passports, it will just continue

Fallagain · 08/12/2021 12:23
@fallagain we know that vaccinated people get and transmit covid to some extent, albeit to a lesser extent than non vaxxed people. A vaccine passport therefore will not guarantee a covid free environment and therefore it's reasonable to question why it should be so heavily relied upon as a measure. Proof of LFT testing makes more sense to me, although also far from perfect.
Of course the vaccine doesn’t make you immune, no vaccine does. Perhaps vaccine passports used in conjunction with negative LFT tests (which aren’t 100% reliable either) are they way to go.

I’ve still got my TB certificate. For if I need to prove I had it for certain jobs.
Franklin12 · 08/12/2021 12:24

"absolute certain that you wont take up a hospital bed"

YOU CANNOT POSSIBILITY SAY THAT!

I am sure the unvaccinated people currently in hospital thought that too.

JudgeJ · 08/12/2021 12:24

@serengtisprinter

This government are a bunch of lying cunts
As you are so all-knowing, exactly how would you deal with the spread of the new variant oh wise one?

I prefer this option tbh

But the plan b rules aren’t really ones that the public can ignore are they? I mean, if a venue requires you to show a vaccine passport, then you have to show it, or not go. If my office says to wfh (and they will if the government says to), then I have to wfh.
Rules like not seeing friends/family are ones I think absolutely would have less compliance now, but that’s not what’s being discussed.

I'm sure the vaccinated people currently fly in hospital thought this as well....

@pianolessons1

If you're not vaccinated you don't go into non-essential shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, theatre etc. Should have been doing that from the start.
Vaccine passports need to have more security to prevent those getting along with false ebay passports, even to go abroad.
CloudyStorms · 08/12/2021 12:27

Unfortunately the Christmas party shenanigans means people aren't going to listen.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/12/2021 12:28

I'm no swivel-eyed anti-covid loon but I am deeply unhappy with the idea of passports. We already live in such a divided society and to see further division actually brought about by government sits very uncomfortably.

As for the timing, well it's dead cat politics, isn't it?

As far as I've seen from all the reports on Omicron it's milder and yet we are chucking everything under the bus that isn't actually Covid - heaven help you if you run a business where you depend on commuters, or your mental health problems had been improved by being back in the office and having social contact, however distanced, or whatever. No, Covid is the only thing that is treated as if it matters, apparently, and I'm fucking sick of it.

megustalacerveza · 08/12/2021 12:28

I can't believe people are STILL asking why it makes a difference whether people are vaccinated or not.

Being vaccinated vastly, vastly reduces the chances of ending up in ICU. Every single person who chooses not to be vaccinated is contributing to the burden on the NHS because they are taking up a bed they wouldn't have otherwise needed. They are also much more likely to get infected in the first place and therefore more likely to spread it. Keeping unvaccinated people out of events, restaurants, etc. makes it less likely they'll either get or spread covid.

IfNot · 08/12/2021 12:28

Loads of women have reported weird hormonal/menstrual cycle effects from vaccine. No one seems to know (or care) why. Confused
I am getting increasingly irritated at fuckwits who equate being anti vaccine "passports" and being anti vaxx though.
This is a mind numbingly stupid comment in particular:
I love the idea of the unvaccinated as some kind of noble victimised freedom fighters. Off you go and revolt
I am double vaxxed, but I will absolutely fight against having forced vaccinations, because its like using a sledgahmmer to crack a walnut. Covid is getting milder, almost everyone I know has had it by now and for most it was a bad cold. People might be saying vaccine passports are what is needed now, but how many doses is that going to be? 4, 5 6? For your kids too? It's opening a box we will not be able to shut again, big big mistake to allow the government (THIS government!?) such power over our bodies and freedom.
Covid is not fucking Ebola, people really need to get some perspective.

BigWoollyJumpers · 08/12/2021 12:28

So more people will get ill and die

There is absolutely no evidence of this at all. Ten of thousands of cases for many months now is resulting in a fall in deaths and hospital admissions.

The only effective measure against Covid is vaccination. Everything else is window dressing. Viruses/pandemics follow a pattern. You can "flatten the curve" fine, at the beginning, and most people will go along with that. But when you have an effective prophylactic (vaccine), and now treatments, the evidence for additional measures, whether that be masks, or wfh, or vaccine passports, loose their value, and the public will eventually say enough is enough.

Lostinacloud · 08/12/2021 12:29

@Franklin12 why can’t I say that? I had covid towards the end of last year. I wasn’t vaccinated and if I’d never heard of Covid I would have thought “well that was quite a harsh cold bug” and got back on with my life after a week when I felt completely recovered. Why would I suddenly need a hospital bed if I caught it again?
Not that I think I can because I have multi faceted natural immunity, which for SARS-Cov1 is so far lasting 18 years and counting…
