Any chance this might get the twats who are too important to wear masks start doing so?
(not the truly exempt who have a valid reason. "Don't want to" is NOT a valid reason)

Lostinacloud · 08/12/2021 16:38

@650above people “like me” have managed to hold onto common sense, perspective and also respect for an individual’s right to choose what they put into their body.

Common sense - a virus is microscopic, it is now too deeply seeded across the world to be controlled by humans. we have lives with viruses for millions of years, it’s why we have a developed immune system.
Perspective - even a 75 year old without other already life threatening illness has over a 95% chance of surviving Covid
Respect - you have as many boosters as you like, your choice and that will satisfy you that you are protected. You don’t need me to have mine for yours to work and worldwide data shows that Covid vaccines don’t have much impact on spread. There are even cruise ships with 100% vaccinated staff and passengers who have reported Covid cases.

You enjoy your happy feeling and the spiral into total government control of your health until perhaps one day they will ask something of you that you don’t think is just or fair or makes sense.

RedToothBrush · 08/12/2021 16:40

The incubation period is less than two days and vaccine status is irrelevant with omicrom would make vaccine passports useless.

How hasn't anyone worked this out yet?

Lostinacloud · 08/12/2021 16:40

And I am not being asked to do something small and insignificant for the sake of public health, I am being asked to possibly compound the menstrual issues I am already still dealing with after the last vaccine.

WildfirePonie · 08/12/2021 16:41

If people really wanted to help the NHS out, they’d stop smoking, stop abusing drink and drugs, exercise and eat a balanced diet.

Agreed!
@AlecTrevelyan006

Well yes that was my thought too, but the call for restrictions and sudden prominence on the Guardian feed made me wonder if despite Omicrom apparently not causing more hospitalisations and deaths, it has actually and they've just found out? Or is it another squirrel tactic due to the party pantomime?

I want science and hard data !!!!
Yeah - if it’s simply omicron cases replacing delta cases then in reality 1,000 admissions per day is not going to overwhelm thff red NHS

If it’s 1,000 omicron + 1,000 or so delta then it’s more of a problem

weddingpanicomicron · 08/12/2021 16:45

Do they really want to have do a conference today and answer media and public questions? Today of all days

JassyRadlett · 08/12/2021 16:52

@RedToothBrush

Without taking a stance on the usefulness or otherwise of vaccine passports, do we actually know either of those things to be true?

I know Omicron looks like a tighter incubation period than Delta but I thought there was still uncertainty on the exact timings of it.

And I thought we were still very much not there on VE against Omicron.

650above · 08/12/2021 16:57

Fine, whatever @Lostinacloud. We clearly have very different world views and a very different take on public health policy.

Youngatheart00 · 08/12/2021 16:58

I take it this press conference isn’t happening after all?!

‘Do they really want to have do a conference today and answer media and public questions? Today of all day’

Is their going to still be a press conference today and if so at what time and what side is it on please?

Picking out your line of Perspective - even a 75 year old without other already life threatening illness has over a 95% chance of surviving Covid
Go completely by your math and statement, that Means that by your 5% chance of dying, a healthy 75 year old has a 1 in 20 chance of dying. Say a primary school has 30 kids. Each kid has 4 grandparents in an ideal world. So 120 grandparents in that class, 5% of them die if they’re all super healthy, that’s 6 primary school kids with dead grandparents. That when they are older might come to the horrific and sadly possibly correct realisation that they had covid mildy, but gave it to their grandparent. That’s going to fuck a lot of people up when they put 2 and 2 together as teens and adults. That 5% chance of dying you spout is huge and relevant to a lot of people.

Not even accounting for all the delayed medical treatment as there isn’t capacity to treat people as they are too busy treating covid patients and unable to ship out the elderly with no medical needs just care needs.

But you sound lovely, crack on.

As well as a needle phobia I'm also terrified that the booster will mess up my periods. I'm physically ill with each period and I back to back the pill to reduce the frequency. If I have more periods despite that I don't know what I'll do.

I hope your issues are resolved soon.

Yes cos a dirty rag is going to stop a killer virus. Maybe the 'twats' you're referring to have realised that wearing face nappies is not going to make a jot of difference and it's actually dreadful that kids are being made to wear them in school. Masks need to go.
doublemonkey · 08/12/2021 17:05

Yep. All these people up in arms about Christmas parties - they should be up in arms about shit policies that the politicians setting them clearly don't believe in or agree with. If they thought Covid was that bad and feared for their loved ones, they wouldn't have done what they did. The fact rich and famous people are just doing what they want, shows exactly how much of a risk they think Covid is. We have vaccines and good medications approved now. It's time we got on with our lives and stopped being conned into sacrificing our entire lives for this mythical "greater good", which is looking increasingly like "greater harm" given the years that children's education has been set back.

@vickyp0llard, I couldn't agree more. The default is to assume they are incompetent when it's obvious they know something the general public don't know.

Must have needed the extra hour to get all the streamers down off the light fittings and sweep away the empties.
