OK, but I do actually know attendance stats for my own school which is data. Don't think my school is weird.

I also know there are high levels of covid absences in schools which may make many anxious to preserve their own Christmases. Expect to see attendance continue to fall over the last few days - covid and non covid. It does every Christmas anyway and will be worse this year. It was noticeable last year.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 14/12/2021 19:23

Piggy I agree with your sentiment. My NDN told me this morning his school was struggling with staffing. As you know, it's not just about the kids, they need the adult at the front of the room.

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2021 19:25

You seem adamant..

I don’t see it reflected in rl across three schools we use but honestly it’s a small point isn’t it - stats from one school

Shame it can’t be elsewhere but anyway

There really are loads of threads re they said etc

@JanglyBeads

The CMO(s?) briefed politicians today

www.thesun.co.uk/health/news-health/17036536/hospitals-overwhelmed-weeks-could-close/

R4 had reports of MPs coming out of the meeting white-faced, and of some possibly changing their minds about their votes tonight.

It went up from 60/70 but still passed

Breaking: 98 Tories rebel on Covid passes
98 Tory MPs (including two tellers) voted against the Government on the use of Covid passes.

Breaking: Government wins vote on vaccine passports
MPs have voted 369 to 126, with a majority 243, to approve the mandatory use of Covid passes for entry to nightclubs and large venues in England.

@Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas

Now there is talk of delta and omicron marrying and having nasty dc.
Link please?

I am interested to see if delta and omicron will run side by side or if delta will be suppressed by the more transmissible variant

Is it being suggested that someone can have both variants at once?

A large secondary school and conversations with other teachers. As I said , it's a magnification of ordinary attendance patterns plus near catastrophic covid absence in some schools.

I have seen the threads. MN is not representative . Or at least not all posters. Otherwise we'd think, for example, that there are loads more anti vaxxers than there are.

Also, re schools, NHS are asking schools to gear up to be vaccine hubs for 2nd doses after Christmas for 12-15 year olds. Only 44% have had first dose thus far because reasons...

I still don’t see why one school is that relevant despite mn
Imo
Sometimes it is representative here of rl - everyone keen to be in school as per no chance responses
And sometimes not - I don’t know many keen to lockdown but do see it on here

However I like the thread as it’s not like majority of mn and sticks to dry useful data - for the most part

Marsha do you really think your limited experience of rl across three schools we use^ is more representative of the current situation in schools than that of Piggy? Y'know, Piggy being a teacher n'all. Or my NDN, being SENCO?

Honestly I think all that stuff should be off this thread.

As it isn’t useful data but the usual stuff you see on majority of site.

I’m hoping people will leave it to the myriad of other threads instead.

I’m not really that into NDN / teacher quotes - I have enough convos with individuals who are in same position irl

Piggyinblankets · 14/12/2021 20:24

OK, end of conversation but just want to say - that's pretty patronising. My observation simply was that as we approach Christmas, people will take kids out of school to preserve their Christmas and that, in the various schools I know, attendance is dropping like a stone. Obviously highly irresponsible in my area.

Peace out.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 14/12/2021 20:29

Piggy this is exactly what my NDN said at 7am this morning, parents will make the final choice over attendance. He was knackered long covid and not really fit for work and needs the break, but was dragging himself in again. Poor bloke.

Regulus · 14/12/2021 20:55

My MAT attendance reports supports Piggy, however that's not why I'm posting.

I would like to know the data behind the rise in number of posts on this thread in comparison with the rise in covid cases, I bet MN could provide it (well the posts per day) I have found the amount of posts I need to read each day an accurate barometer of the state of covid.

Delta and Omicron growth...

Itisasecret · 14/12/2021 21:03

That would be interesting. I think that would make a good behavioural research study. I’ve noticed the more the shit hits the fan, the more posts I come home to. It reminds me of the band on the Titanic, keep playing the same tune and everything is fine, when the situation is sinking further and further.

I’d love to know the correlation and why.

peridito · 14/12/2021 21:05

Thank you all for taking time to post .Much appreciated ,though I'll need to have a little ponder .

I do get the school kid theory now ,thanks .Though I'm surprised that many under 15 year olds have already been vaccinated .

Thank you again .

MRex · 14/12/2021 21:26

if it's so obvious that we should be boosting younger adults - why aren't other countries doing it, but are focusing on boosting vulnerable
Vulnerable have had their chance; group 6 and over 40s. Either they aren't eligible yet due to turning up late (higher protection), are choosing to wait (DH with super cold still, so not fit for a vaccine), or have for whatever other reason decided not to boost. It was reasonable to wait for initial doses on getting everyone done, but at this stage your average double-jabbed 30yo simply isn't at vastly greater risk than a double- jabbed 20yo, they are more likely lower risk because the highest virus circulation is among the 20yo group.

Itisasecret · 14/12/2021 21:33

I was at a mass vaccination centre this weekend. Most of the people getting their jabs were easy 50+ many a lot older. It’s not been easy to get boosted everywhere. Lots of vulnerable and 40+ are only just starting to trickle through in some areas.
