The stats on the children are literally in the Twitter thread...

MidtoLon · 17/12/2021 20:19

LittleRen This is interesting... same thing happened with my Son, two very faint positives on the Flowflex. We all went for PCR, all negative including my Son. Next day due the white/green box test and Negative......

My son has now received a 2nd email saying his PCR is Positive

Notoironing · 17/12/2021 20:41

Thank you all for your analysis, I’ve been reading this thread a very long time.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the positivity rate given that testing is up as well as cases? Is there any data to help compare the likely positivity rate with previous waves?

Look at this tweet from a GP -which also has links to the new sick note rules in the replies!

Self verification for up to 28 days??

This has to be because there aren’t going to be enough GP appts available because of the boosters, yes??

Yeah.

Just for the next six weeks or so at the moment.

Sorry if I'm being really dense, but does the Twitter thread give data on the proportion of those under 5s who were admitted for covid (as opposed to being in hospital for some other reason and happening to be positive)? I've looked again and I can't see it.
boys3 · 17/12/2021 21:05
@boys3 do you want to start the new thread - please?
I will set it up shortly and post the link

sirfredfredgeorge · 17/12/2021 21:07

Wait, does that say 80% of those admissions are with Covid as the primary reason. Not admissions with Covid but because of Covid? If so that’s quite worrying. Can someone clarify this for me?

I think there's chance of this, I gave the info on hospital in-patient ratios, and those are indeed mostly covid as the primary reason, but are still mostly below 80% - 77% in London a ocuple of days ago, I provided the link in the thread, and the page linking to it is in the thread opener.

However the conversion of "admission" to "in-patient" is not 1 to 1, and sadly we don't actually know the numbers, other than most admissions do not become in-patients (or become in patients only for a very short time) so it could be that more of these admissions and near-immediate discharge are with covid, but that would seem unlikely, and even if it was, it would actually be good if so many of the cases didn't need treatment. However that is probably the more likely "drunk who tripped and broke their arm" etc. at current prevalence.

JanglyBeads · 17/12/2021 21:13

London emergency services and at least one major hospital seriously effected by omicron amongst staff - absences:

@Ohsofedupwiththis

Is the increase in Paed admissions due to Covid or other reasons as well.

I think its inevitable, sadly that there will be more paeds admissions this year, because kids have missed out on 18 months building up their immune system.

Spoke to my friend - a children's A&E nurse. She told me they're seeing more children with covid, but it's mostly abdominal and blood pressure problems.

As a result of Covid? Sounds strange ailments but then I don't know anything about paediatrics apart from the minor illnesses my kids have had.

Piggywaspushed · 17/12/2021 22:07

When I was in hospital, the two teenagers ( and me) were all throwing up ...

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 17/12/2021 22:12

If omicron infections in children have gone up then admissions in children will also rise won't they?

Ohsofedupwiththis · 17/12/2021 22:19

I am sure I did read that gastro symptoms are less common with Omicrom than Delta. Of course, we still really don't know! But I can deal with a lot of things but being sick is really not nice 🤢

What's what she said. She also said they were things that could be treated easily and not like the breathing problems they have dealt with in the past. Don't know if this is omicron or delta.

Don't want to put words in anyone's mouth, but I guess it could be like Piggy and sickness which might even cause dehydration. I guess most of the times once they get fluids in the kids they recover quickly.

AbstractDot · 17/12/2021 23:33

Can anyone describe the Booster situation? So many graphs on the dashboard that I can't quite surmise, are we seeing a huge rise in everyone being at the same level if immunity? I mean, we had a slow vaccine rollout by comparison so everyone was at different points but now most adults are vaccinated and taking a booster, are we seeing all adults entering 'peak' immunity at the same time?

sirfredfredgeorge · 18/12/2021 08:36

are we seeing all adults entering 'peak' immunity at the same time?

Ignoring infection, yes, we're compressing immunity down into a smaller range.

However I don't think we can ignore infection immunity, too many even boosted people are being infected, with infection immunity almost certainly being considerably more varied in how long it lasts ('cos it depends on severity and how much of a defence the body mounts) that's likely to smooth things out a bit.

Have any other countries reduced the booster to 3 months?

Ohsofedupwiththis · 18/12/2021 09:23

Have any other countries reduced the booster to 3 months?

I think countries are reducing gap but not sure how many months. We used more AZ so not sure if that's a reason.

But other countries are way behind in their booster campaigns. Its actually quite shocking.

I am shocked at the US which has always had more vaccines available that elsewhere, and they are still 6 months. Although most are probably past that stage now.
