Anyone else fancy a grouch at having Covid? I’m a few days in, feeling like crap and fed up with the world in general.

Tea and sympathy to anyone in a similar position?

Thanks Andoffwego - thought I was going mad today! DH lost his pretty much straight away so thought I'd escaped

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/11/2021 23:15

Day 10.
Out if breath and lots of coughing but seems a tiny bit improved. I'm not going back to work until Monday at the earliest though.

I lost my smell a few days in and dont really have it back. Can't smell much at all.

I can mostly taste my food though. But things dont taste quite right....I still cannot bear coffee. Sweet things taste fine. Savoury are ok but anything with a hint of bitterness to it really tastes nasty.

I'm going to roast a chicken tomorrow and see if I can smell that!

yellowjellytot · 17/11/2021 23:46

Please let me have a moan too!
DS got a positive test on Sunday. I'm a childminder so have had to leave 7 families without childcare as I obviously can't have anyone in the house while any member is isolating. We are a family of 6, in theory I could be closed and unpaid for over 6 weeks if each member gets it separately. Sad
I have a headache but am still testing negative

ParishSpinster · 18/11/2021 08:36

Day 17 here. Woke up second day in a row not feeling exhausted which is really good. I am back at work and doing ok - WFH and not exactly at the coal face so it hasn't taken a lot out of me.

I'm now up to a 20 minute (slow) walk at lunch and on Tuesday that made me feel utterly shattered but yesterday I felt tired but ultimately happy after.

Still can't smell (lost it around day 5 when I was congested and out some vicks under my nose and realised there was no smell!) And taste is there but some things taste odd.

Coughing is lessening.

Cheermonger · 18/11/2021 08:47

The waking up exhausted is so weird, I’ve never slept better (though that could be as DH is sleeping in spare room as he’s negative) but the exhaustion on waking is something else. I’m gonna try a couple of hours at work today (day 7) though, see how that works as I’m lucky enough to have that opportunity. Chin up, nose drip covid warriors 🤣

Vampyhooch1987 · 18/11/2021 08:57

Has anyone needed antibiotics for their chest? I’m coughing up phlegm but don’t know whether that’s just a normal part of covid?

Budapestdreams · 18/11/2021 09:32

@yellowjellytot have you had a PCR recently? Everyone in my house had a frontal headache as the first symptom.
Hoping either none of you get it, or you all get it at once (mildly).

kimsbb · 18/11/2021 09:40

You're assuming you would have been worse off if you hadn't been vaccinated. Everyone I know who caught covid BEFORE being vaccinated were fine. A few have been worse second time around AFTER being vaccinated.

Just an observation

Budapestdreams · 18/11/2021 09:58

I think there is a substantial body of evidence demonstrating that hospitalisations and deaths are less likely once you have been vaccinated.

Etching · 18/11/2021 10:44

I had a really weird night. My heart was racing and I couldn't sleep, it was like I was on high dose steroids but I am not (am on very low dose steroids for my asthma atm, prescribed pre covid).

I literally could not sleep - completely wide awake all night until about 5am.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/11/2021 10:48

It's also likely that those who got it before being vaccinated didnt get the delta strain which has hit unvaccinated people harder this time round.

I'm supremely glad of the protection of the vaccines even though I still caught it and had some rubbish symptoms.

The headache was also my first symptom...and the worst.

I'm back from pottering around a supermarket and knackered and out of breath from doing it. And I have a headache, but not the frontal horrible headache. Just a normal one.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 18/11/2021 10:54

I’m a single parent and I remember when it first came out I had this total panic of being to I’ll to function , handle kids
Then two years passed and I got totally blasé abiut it
And now !! It’s totally happening

I’m so relieved for this thread as totally felt like it was me being a weakling

Vampyhooch1987 · 18/11/2021 11:01

Just on hold to the doctors. Chest sounds crackly and coughing up green pleghm x

Chaosandmadness · 18/11/2021 11:54

For those with exhaustion I spoke to my GP today. He basically said rest, rest and more rest. If you feel OK then do a little. Stop and see how you feel. If you feel OK then do a little more. He has signed me off for another week and then he wants to reassess how I am. I'm hoping that will be enough time and I can then go back to work.

Budapestdreams · 18/11/2021 13:27

My GP said exactly the same.

Vampyhooch1987 · 18/11/2021 16:12

Chest still feels awful. Spoke to GP who is prescribing antibiotics 😢

MrsTumbletap · 18/11/2021 21:16

@Vampyhooch1987 yes that's exactly it! Feel hot on the inside.

On the plus side I still haven't got my heating on and often leaving the back door open so the dog can potter in and out. Not felt cold once, in November, in England. Madness!

The headache has still not gone and I'm on day 12. And still get waves of dizziness and feeling floaty, it is so weird and makes me feel worried about driving to work next week.

Rainydays55 · 18/11/2021 21:28

I’m the same @MrsTumbletap, I’m concerned about going into the office next week with the floaty feeling.

lisaandalan · 18/11/2021 22:03

Thank goodness for this thread in bed feeling like I'm going to cry and then I found this.
I was feeling not to bad last night but feel worse again tonight, really thought I was turning a corner,
Glad to see the nausea is a thing I was worried. X

lisaandalan · 18/11/2021 22:06

If any of you have a dog would neighbours or any family be willing to take them for a walk, if you pass them out the door. X

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/11/2021 22:08

@DrMadelineMaxwell - definitely save going back until Monday. I went back this last Monday (day 12), and I think today was the day I probably SHOULD have gone back. Completely fine today.

PurpleDaisies · 18/11/2021 22:09

Just ducking back in to send good wishes to all the newbies (sorry you’re stuck here) and anyone that’s been around for a while.

I am happy to report that my sense of smell is back! I am very excited about that. The brain fog has got worse if anything which is frustrating. Hopefully that will disappear soon. I’m also still tired very easily. This weekend is a quiet one. I can’t wait.

Hang in there everyone!

OP posts:
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/11/2021 22:10

Still can only taste salt and oranges though, and can mostly really only smell things like cocoa butter or almond oil - have got bored of eating won't do me any harm

lisaandalan · 18/11/2021 22:12

Also I have a burning feeling in my lungs is that normal. X

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/11/2021 22:16

Hi everyone. Hope you're all doing ok. Day 12 here and out of isolation but still getting tired easily. By afternoons I'm good for nothing. Also a bit breathless however I found that going out to collect dd from school helped to kind of wake me up. Still can't taste or smell properly.
