Anyone else fancy a grouch at having Covid? I’m a few days in, feeling like crap and fed up with the world in general.

Tea and sympathy to anyone in a similar position?

@lllllllllll

and I'm not vaxxed.

@morticiamarkle why not?

Initially because I wanted to wait out a winter to ensure ADE didn't arrive (also helped I was never concerned - rightly as it turns out - about catching the virus) but now because the vaccines have v limited efficacy, way worse side effect profiles than I had ever anticipated and I have concerns about original antigenic sin screwing up your ability to maintain long lasting immunity (still 50/50 on that one...I want more info), I have plenty more reasons to avoid it.

I'm v conservative when it comes to vaccines: the risk/benefit has to be v clear when you're vaccinating healthy people who are at low risk of the disease

PurpleDaisies · 09/11/2021 22:14

The vaccines do not have “very limited efficacy” against severe disease. Look at the number of hospitalisations compared to last year.

I don’t want this thread to turn into a vaccine debate. This is supposed to be supportive for people with covid.

I've had a 'mild' infection according to all reports I've seen. It's still the most ill I've ever been in my life. It's been/remains really horrible and discombobulating. I've not had a day off work with illness in 20 years - I'd have gone to work on day 2, but was absolutely unable to work on days 5 and 6.

I'm still 'ill but fine, but it's totally shit. I don't want it again and I don't want anyone I know to get it either.

Leftbutcameback · 09/11/2021 23:08

Can I ask if anyone on this thread has asthma and has found that covid hasn't affected their lungs too much? I'm scared about that. Thanks

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 23:09

My partner has asthma - he's coughed less than me. It started for him with a tight chest, but that bit came to nothing.

I don't either. I was just answering the q. And I didn't mean against severe disease - I mean duration of protective effect on infection. Sorry, I should have elaborated.

Im day ummm prob 5 from first starting symptons and I havent has a moment to just STOP a few family issues had to sort out and last of them tomorrow then I need to stop and recoup think Im in overdrive and can feel Im on the edge now and am so teary. No smell or taste, no sleep last night or today. Sore lips and nose and bit of a pain in my chest but think thats from coughing.

Track and trace called this morning...lovely lady just ringing to 'make sure Im alright'

DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/11/2021 00:11

I have asthma that needs a stronger mixed drug preventer and montelukast to wtat on top of.

I was dreading the cough if I caught this. I've coughed a few times but not too much and I'm not short of breath.

I'm doing lots of deep breathing and making sure I sleep on my front and side to mix it up....and taking plenty of my inhalers.

I'm sure I read somewhere that people in inhalers for asthma can have less severe chest problems with covid as they can help covid. But dont quote me.

Leftbutcameback · 10/11/2021 08:22

Thanks @DrMadelineMaxwell and @RuleWithAWoodenFoot that’s comforting to know. I’ve upped my preventer dose by a puff (I’m allowed to do that), and will make sure I do the deep breathing as I know that helps. I’m on forstair after changing earlier this year and my asthma is the best controlled it’s been in years, so fingers crossed.

Well after having two days of feeling relatively better, the last two days I've felt 💩 again.

I feel absolutely exhausted, achy, nauseous, stomach pains this morning and needing the loo quickly.

I've just been texting a friend who had it and she said every time she thought she felt better Bam! she was back to square one. It took her two months to feel anywhere near back to Normal.

Rainydays55 · 10/11/2021 10:05

I’m feeling a bit frustrated too, a week since I tested positive and I just feel knackered. My cold symptoms seem to have pretty much gone but my legs ache still and I feel spaced out, worried it will take ages to feel ‘normal’ again. I seem to feel ok for a couple of hours then dodgy again. Is there anything I can be doing to speed it up!?

Budapestdreams · 10/11/2021 10:05

I am getting nausea and stomach pains in the morning too, have you found anything that helps?

I have lost 99% of my sense of smell. I'm going round like an idiot opening stuff and smelling it. Acetone...no. vapour rub...no.

I can still taste. But at the same time every time I inhale I get a funny taste like I'm breathing in perfume.

Very weird.

Haha I did the same yesterday! Searching for strong smelling things and depressing myself cos I can't smell them!

I second the options above. Crunchy things that are either salty or sweet. Personally it has been salt and vinegar crisps - McCoys ridged. Also Marmite rice cakes. And yes, for breakfast!!

@DrMadelineMaxwell I think my taste and smell is around 99% too - I can still 'get' some things - mostly just the salt and sugar elements.

I feel a bit more me today. Started thinking about holidays! No painful headache, but still a heavy head and a frown. Another crappy night's sleep, so it could just be that I'm tired. Will do some napping today.

Mummychick46 · 10/11/2021 11:23

Joining in the moan thread. On day 6 I think! Have managed to get showered and dressed and am exhausted and slightly breathless from the effort!
Still hacking away and no sense of smell at all but I keep getting what feels like morning sickness on and off and particularly first thing when I wake up! Does anyone else have this?
Also, I can’t taste properly at all, as I’ve got a weird metallic taste in my mouth, but keep feeling the need to graze on food all day, particularly on salty stuff. Seems to help with the nausea. I’m going to end up huge at this rate 🥲. Most people seem to have lost or have a reduced appetite and I’m the opposite! Weird!

Leftbutcameback · 10/11/2021 11:37

McDonald’s fries, or hash browns, plus a cup of tea. Also crackers with marmite. Basically anything carbs and salty!

It's so weird. I had my wax burner on and realised I couldn't smell any more. Opened a bag of scented tea lights that were so strong and.... nothing. I cannot smell anything. I can't really taste either and have no appetite but when I called hairdressers to cancel an apt the lady said 'my advice is to eat, I've been there and make sure you eat' so I have even though I have no desire to.
Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 10/11/2021 12:00

Im really out of breath as well. Can't imagine ever doing exercise again.

Budapestdreams · 10/11/2021 12:05

Thanks all! Will try crisps for breakfast tomorrow!
I used to find ginger nuts were really helpful when I had morning sickness so I might try some of them too.

That’s how I felt this time last week. I did my usual half hour hiit class this morning…more breaks and I took it easy but it was ok. It’s horrible in the thick of it but it will get better. Flowers

I want to kill kids
Every time they scream it’s like a drill going in my brain
They are loud and raucous at the best of times
How do people do this with toddlers when sick 😷
