Anyone else fancy a grouch at having Covid? I’m a few days in, feeling like crap and fed up with the world in general.

Tea and sympathy to anyone in a similar position?

Does having it give you strong immunity for up to 6 months or more like 3?
Also if you’ve had it do you know if you can still be a carrier and pass it onto others who haven’t had it or is that even unlikely for 3-6 months?
And does anyone have any tips on how to help ease the fatigue?! Feel more tired now than I did days 1-4 ☹️.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 10:37

Yep I'm really tired too, but only able to sleep my normal hours. Couldn't get back to sleep this morning once I'd woken up at 6.30 for example. Why not? I'm knackered. Raah.

I'd like to know about being a carrier of it too. I'm going to hope that I am at a much lower chance of getting it again until Feb, after that I'll probably assume it's coming again at some point.

I need to take my antibody test to the post box today. Seems an extremely long way away.

reddevilunited · 09/11/2021 10:39

Four more days of isolation for me. Still no taste or smell at all, I feel fatigued mainly and achy still. Slight congestion.

DP has tested positive this morning on a PCR 😫

PurpleDaisies · 09/11/2021 10:44

A long time ago I had glandular fever. For me, what worked best with the fatigue was pacing. Keep doing essential things (getting up and showered, cooking etc) and if you have more energy be selective about what you choose to spend it on. Really think carefully about going all out when you have a good day because the next day you could end up paying for it. For something acute like this, survival mode all the way.Flowers

Thank you @PurpleDaisies that’s good advice. I’ve been getting up sort of normal time every day , showering etc , making quick meals, did a brief bit of cleaning Saturday morning and this morning but that’s all I’ve done really. I wfh days 1-3 and did a bit yesterday morning but have said I need to rest today because I just feel knackered. Worried if I still feel like this next week and it’s time to go back to work that I ll still feel too wiped ☹️

justbananas42 · 09/11/2021 11:05

However I think what @SummerHouse means is that by us having it now we will have antibodies and natural immunity for a few months.

I see, thanks. I kind of thought I already had that from being double vaccinated! Sad

@Whiffle77 Flowers it is SO hard to be stuck at home with a baby/small child. I'm really struggling too.

@reddevilunited sorry about your DP. Did he get a positive lateral flow before the PCR result? We're currently awaiting my DH's PCR results. He's tested negative every day on the lateral flows (whereas I've had strong positives) but I'll be stunned if he doesn't have it TBH.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 11:10

We both tested positive on LFT before PCR, but child is testing negative on both.

I've been getting up at normal times just because I would prefer to sit on the sofa than lie in bed. I think yesterday was so bad because me and partner put some shelves up on Sunday.

reddevilunited · 09/11/2021 11:22

@justbananas42
No he didn't test positive on LFT just on pcr. I knew he was starting with it though. There's no wonder when the rest of us have had it that he would get it.

justbananas42 · 09/11/2021 11:31

Thanks. I really hope DH hasn't got it - we shall see.

MidLifeResurgence74 · 09/11/2021 11:51

Hello! Am on day 5. Came here looking for advice on sense of taste and smell. It's depressing me SO much and it's so hard to explain to others. It's not like when you have a cold and you are bunged up (because you can sniff hard or blow your nose and get taste back) - it's like it's been permanently wiped out entirely. I can't face eating anything as it's just not fun. On Twitter I had a few tips - curries and chillies give you a mouth feel which can give you some satisfaction, soups give you nutrition and you should think about food at the moment as 'functional' rather than anything else. The strange thing for me is looking forward to cleaning my teeth as I can feel the tingle which almost gives me the taste too!

I've got a hacking cough (quite phlegmy) and have had a grim headache. Also seem to be okay in the morning but knackered by 2pm and having an afternoon nap.

Double-vaxed, been so careful too. URGH. Sending solidarity to you all!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 12:19

you should think about food at the moment as 'functional'

Yes. Last week when partner was ill but not me, I made a load of veg and split pea soup - nutritional value high, nothing offensive in terms of texture. We have both been eating that a lot, with packets of salt and vinegar crisps and slices of cucumber because crunchy is good. Grated cheese on top or marmite rice cakes for some salt too. Also been eating fruit and yoghurt with honey - can taste the sweetness, get the vitamins and some gut stuff to counteract the painkillers.

Also seem to be okay in the morning but knackered by 2pm and having an afternoon nap.

My jaw gets slacker as the day goes on.

3AndADog · 09/11/2021 12:26

I’m the opposite. I feel better each day as evening approaches and then dreadful when I wake up. I slept twelve hours! 11-11. Can’t remember the last time I did that! Feel almost totally fine today except for very congested sinuses. I’ve been told (not UK) that I can’t come out of isolation after 10 days if I still have any cold symptoms. This congestion had better naff off before Friday!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/11/2021 12:38

On what day did you notice loss info taste and smell? Did it creep up on you or just disappear in one go? And did it come with any other symptoms?

I'm only day 2. Still being slayed by the nasty headache making me walk around with my eyes closed as everything is TOO BRIGHT! Kicked the poor cat earlier as she is so used to us stepping over and around her and I didnt see her. Oops.

Surviving by having a late morning nap.
And a late afternoon one too.

Not much of an appetite and dont fancy alcohol at all.
Have scoffed a fair few bits of (christmas stocking) toblerone. Protein from the nuts!

Last night while brushing my teeth I thought I was either going to faint or be sick but it passed.

reddevilunited · 09/11/2021 12:48

Mine disappeared gradually but I have just got the scent of Worcestershire sauce slightly when making myself cheese on toast and I could get a tiny hint of my conditioner when I washed my hair!!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 12:51

My taste and smell started to go within a few hours of positive LFT, but I only noticed when my coffee was grim. It had completely gone apart from salt and sweet (which has stayed) by end of day 3.

I've had slight nausea the whole time I think, but it's not been the biggest issue so has barely been worth mentioning. Mostly it's the very heavy head, headache, fuzziness, a bit dizzy if I move around too much. I have a cough, but it comes and goes. Now I think of it, the limb ache has gone today.

justbananas42 · 09/11/2021 12:52

On what day did you notice loss info taste and smell? Did it creep up on you or just disappear in one go? And did it come with any other symptoms?

I started feeling under the weather on Wednesday and noticed loss of taste and smell 48 hours later. It happened very quickly - I ate breakfast as normal then could hardly taste my lunch. A few hours after that it was completely gone.

All other symptoms have been very mild - like having a barely noticeable cold. That's what I thought I had until the loss of taste and smell!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 12:53

everything is TOO BRIGHT

Today I have been able to move from the sofa in the north facing living room, to the sofa in the south facing kitchen. Feel less like a vampire today.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 09/11/2021 12:57

Hello can't remember if I've posted here or not. Positive lft Saturday. Pcr Sunday. Felt okayish until today and now feel utterly horrendous.

ParishSpinster · 09/11/2021 14:07

I am OUT OF BED!
Day 8. Showered. Have underwear on with pyjamas on top. Feeling less exhausted and whilst still coughing i am feeling a bit brighter.

justbananas42 · 09/11/2021 14:09

DH has it!!!! Sad

reddevilunited · 09/11/2021 14:42

@justbananas42

DH has it!!!! Sad
Aww no!! I hope he isn't too bad.

I'm feeling sick extremely tired and achy today and I thought I was feeling better 😞I've probably done too much and worn myself out.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/11/2021 14:42

Well done! I'm wearing different clothes to the ones I'd been wearing since Thursday. Yay me.
Rainydays55 · 09/11/2021 15:00

Snap @reddevilunited, what day are you on?

Andoffwego · 09/11/2021 15:26

I managed longer out of bed today - about 8am-2pm. Just sitting quietly watching tv but even that is an achievement. Then at 2 I suddenly felt so utterly exhausted and ill that I crawled back into bed and I’m pretty sure I’m here for th rest of the day now.

zobalina77 · 09/11/2021 15:26

Day 10 and looking forward to getting out the house for a bit. Am supposed to be going into uni for sessions tomorrow (only get one day a fortnight in so was looking forward to it) but ds13 is still spiking temperature and has bad diarrhoea so I'm not going to leave him. Luckily uni are being understanding.
