How soon after 6 months can people book boosters?

I had my first Covid jab start Feb, 2nd start April, so I’m just a bit over the 6 monthsfrom last jab now. DH was offered to book his booster 3 weeks ago, pretty much on the 6 months. But no one has contacted me and when I try to book online it says I’m not eligible and wait to be contacted. I was in the CEV group so I was done well in advance of my age group, though I am in the over 50 group anyway. GP surgery will not discuss Covid boosters in any shape or form. Do I just need to be patient? Am I being too hasty? I’m a teacher and in contact with an insane amount of Covid at the moment so justifiably anxious about waning immunity!

@Wakemeuuuup I'm not asthmatic, group 6 for another reason. Gp has confirmed it and said I'll be able to book on 17th November. I wonder if it depends how far down the list of group 6 the condition is or just a blip for under 50s in group 6

Wakemeuuuup · 06/11/2021 15:54

@DementedPanda John Roberts on twitter seems to think there may be a problem with under 50s in group 6 that will hopefully be fixed on Monday. I'll wait until then and try 119

It’s worth trying with nhs number instead of DOB for anyone struggling to book. It got me through (group six, carer).

Slightly confused about what ‘six months’ is… it’s letting me book from 180 days, but some are saying it’s meant to be a couple of days longer? Have played safe with 183 days, but would be good to have clarity if people will be turned away at 180, because many will be booking for that?

That’s exactly what I was worried about so did it at 6 months rather than 180 days

6 months to the day is 182 days, the following day would be 183 ie six months fully complete. The system let me book on day 182 so I really hope i won't be turned away!

@NotSorry

I just booked me and DH on nhs website - they are saying you can do it from Monday but it’s working now. It gives you dates from when you are eligible as my date was 10 days later than DH
Have you got a link for the site to book in on? I’m guessing this is for England?
WombatChocolate · 07/11/2021 18:33

I am under 50 but Group 6. Had 2nd jab mid May, so would be at 6 months in about a week.

Today for first time, the system allows me to book. Nearest place has first available slot for 1 Dec and I could get it about 10 days sooner if I travel a few miles.

But here’s the Q, I have had Covid - positive PCR test on 13 Oct. I know I have to wait 28 days and assume to NHS W I sure knows I’ve had it and is only offering appropriate dates. By chance, my 28 days would be up as I reach 6 months anyway.

Given Ive recently had Covid, would I do better to delay by booster by a few weeks, as I already must have good immunity from Covid, and then by booster will last longer with its effects. Should I delay a couple of weeks or wait until after Christmas or longer…or just go ASAP.

Not sure what to do.

With other jabs I’ve been there on the first day I could have it. But for this one, wonder if it would be a bit ‘wasted’ having it so close to actually having Covid.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I am a carer for my vulnerable daughter who is in Group 6. I could book for my Dd and Dh (who is over 50) yesterday, for today (182 days after). But not me as I am not 50 yet. We went to a big hospital walk-in centre and I asked to done as the carer - as soon as they saw the date of my 2nd jab 182 days ago, they were fine.

MeanderingGently · 08/11/2021 07:27

Try booking today, the site has been changed. I've been trying to book my booster jab for the last couple of weeks but it wouldn't let me. But now the site has altered and you can if you're more than 5 months away from your last jab.
I haven't had an invitation of any sort (I never seem to get them, not for my 1st and 2nd jab, nor my flu' jab which I booked myself) but the site still recognises me with my date of birth and NHS number.
I'd urge anyone to book a booster if you can......

caringcarer · 08/11/2021 07:47

I booked mine Saturday November 6th through NHS app. I had 2nd jab May 17th. I am having booster on 13th which is first date I could choose.

caringcarer · 08/11/2021 07:53

I should have added I was not contacted by my GP. I just went on NHS app and it let me book.

mrsrhodgilbert · 08/11/2021 08:21

The NHS website has updated overnight for pre booking. I’ve managed to get an appointment now earlier than expected as have friends

Wakemeuuuup · 08/11/2021 08:50

Still not able to book. I'm so annoyed Halloween Angry

DementedPanda · 08/11/2021 09:11

I cant either @Wakemeuuuup Angry

Beakerandbungle · 08/11/2021 09:22

I’m a group 6 carer under 50. Just tried the site again this morning and still can’t book.

Beakerandbungle · 08/11/2021 09:23

I’m wondering whether to try ringing 119? I will be 6 months next Friday

DementedPanda · 08/11/2021 09:27

Seems there's still some issues with group 6 Sad

Zandathepanda · 08/11/2021 09:30

Beaker Calculate 182 days from your last jab then go to a big walk in centre after that date. If you can, take your cared for person with you who should be able to book an appointment. They weren’t refusing carers if the dates were 182 days after.

Beakerandbungle · 08/11/2021 09:31

I’ve tried 119 - it’s so busy I got chucked out and told to call back later.

Beakerandbungle · 08/11/2021 09:31

Thanks @Zandathepanda - it’s my young son so won’t be able to take him but will give it a try Smile

Beakerandbungle · 08/11/2021 09:53

Interestingly on the 119 recorded message health and social care workers can still only book after 182 days. Maybe it’s the same for unpaid carers.

Anyway when I got through the persons system was down and also she told me they hadn’t been give the updated advice so she would only book after 6 months anyway Confused

Zandathepanda · 08/11/2021 13:18

119 weren’t any help. My other Dc is a volunteer (NE) and they have been told to accept walk ins from people that are 182 days or after if they are a carer of any age (if they have enough doses after appointments).

Watsername · 08/11/2021 17:21

Still can't book.

DementedPanda · 08/11/2021 20:45

Me neither... this is doing my mental health no good, even tho I had a phone call off my gp confirming I'm definately group 6 due to said mental health. My 2nd jab was 12th May Sad
